5 pointsNot much of a story. I went to my northern az quail place and my shotgun jammed. After 20 or 30 minutes of fiddling with it, I decided to go home. Driving way to fast on a dirt road, something crossed in front of me. I stop and think pig, then I think, the biggest javelina in the world. Then I think, do javelina have tails? Then I think, must be a ranchers, but there are no ranches within 5 or 10 miles. Then I think, I am smoking a tritip this evening. F IT! and grab my truck pistol. 357 Several shots from the cylinder were solid and it fumbles back towards me and falls

1 pointThose sequoias are no joke. My neighbor got one when they first came out. He found out the hard way he had epilepsy on the freeway at 80, had a seizure and rolled it. He walked away without a scratch, other than learning he had epilepsy. Still had the paper plate on it.

1 pointDidn't say 500 makes you reliable. I said that having greater than 500 points makes it unlikely that he is a scammer. Relatively small community here on cw.com, so I stand by what I said regarding him not being a scammer. If someone got info from the post and took it over for the purpose of scamming, that doesn't make the poster a scammer. Sort of makes him an ancillary victim, in a way.

1 pointTook the day off yesterday. Been a rough couple weeks with Dad being ill. He's home now and doing okay. So I went to talkalai lake. Left Surprise at 4 am. Got to Superior and hit a detour. Yikes. 71 miles total one way . Finally got to the lake and not another boat or person anywhere . Fished from 830 am to 545pm. Caught 13 Bass and 11 crappie. Biggest bass was just over 6# and crappie all ranged around 2 to 2.5. Absolutely gorgeous day and one of the most peaceful days I've had in years. All alone and nothing but Time to reflect on life. I'm very thankful to God ,for the Blessing He gave Me yesterday. And the fact I still have a Dad who is alive. And hopefully be cathing his own 6 pounder soon. Crappie breaded with Marie calenders cornbread mix and Homemade Corn fritters with fresh coleslaw tonight for dinner. 😋

1 pointIf I ever rifle hunt javelina, it will be with my dad's AR that he got when I was in elementary school. 1980s Colt A1 style, just like he carried in Vietnam. Accurate has heck. My favorite rifle hunt that I've been on so far was when my son shot his 3rd javelina with my 1956 H&R M1 Garand. He had just turned 12 and the rifle was almost as big as he was!

1 pointHey y’all sorry it’s taken me forever to finally get to this, but it has been archery season for the last month and I’ve been playing catch up from my rifle tag… I ended up scouting and hunting what felt like most of the country between the 17 and the river, and all the way from Bartlett to a little bit south of camp verde. I was planning to finally have a hunt of a lifetime with the opportunity to pass on multiple mature bucks. That didn’t pan out. This hunt was grueling. I was able to hunt with some friends a lot though which was a lot of fun. Being able to have friends along because it was close to Phoenix was one of the reasons I stuck with the tag. Another reason I put in for the tag was because I’ve hunted 21 in October a bit in the past. Granted it had been a few years but I didn’t think it could be that different. It should only be better in December. I couldn’t believe the drastic change from back then to now. Places where I used to see tons of muleys now held 1 or 2 does. We put in a lot of miles hunting hard to access places, easy to access places, and places I thought would be overlooked by the masses. We glassed up coati, javis, lots of white tails, and more mountain lions than 4 point mule deer. About a week into the hunt I passed on the first 4x that I saw. He was pushing a doe so I felt confident I had nothing but time, with the rut kicking off, so why end it now? I regretted that decision a few days later when it was clear that he was the only mature mule deer chasing anything that I could find. I had glassed up a good sized 3x at one spot a few times and I was ready to throw in the towel and go shoot that deer. I hadn’t seen the family much for Christmas and had the kids home from college. The hunt was 10 times harder than I thought it would be. The morning I decided to go look for that 3x, my buddy and his daughter convinced me to try a different spot one more time. We’d hardly even seen does there yet, but decided to give it one more try and found this guy hiding in a thicket with some does and smaller bucks. Couldn’t hardly believe it! Literally ran 3/4 of a mile to cover ground and get closer. Had to top a little finger 130 yards from him to actually get eyes on them. They must have sensed something because as I went up the back side of the hill they blew out. Caught back up to them a few hours and a few miles later. The events of that morning honestly seemed too easy, and it’s crazy to think if someone was watching me that morning it would have looked so quick and simple. But all told, I hunted 10 solid days before finally tagging out (actual hunting days in the field and not counting scouting). It was hard fought and hard won, and I’m glad I got to earn this deer. There’s no way I would have gotten this deer without the help of my buddies who were amazing to hunt with. The steaks have been great! Took the hide to Weller’s in Tucson and can’t wait to get it back!

1 pointI was lucky enough to have drawn the first hunt in the Picacho Mountains (37A east) six years after the reintroduction of sheep to the area. Because the area is so close to my home I chose to go about the hunt self guided. First call was to AZG&F to figure out what I had gotten myself into. Officer Smallwood, the manager for 37A, kept me on the phone for well over an hour during my first phone call to him. He gave me areas to access the mountains and information on where they had been seeing sheep. This was huge. In all, I spent at least one day almost each weekend from beginning of September until the hunt in the area looking for sheep. I managed to wear out a set of tires on my Jeep on that road. Hunted seven days. It was physically and mentally strenuous. At one point, we found ourselves up on the mountain as the sun was setting. Coming down in the dark with headlamps on, moving from cliff to cliff was no picnic. I vowed that if I was ever in that situation again, I'd sleep on top of the mountain and come down in the daylight. I had several friends help out. I was never alone. My hunting partner, Jeff was with me every day of the hunt. Made two new friends from this website. Luis (Lucafu1) and Patrick (PatrickJr) each accompanied me for a day. Solid guys. Helpful to a fault. In fact Patrick glassed up the Ram that I ended up killing, he prepped the cape/head and hauled the meat off the mountain for me! I hope to repay the favor someday. I am including pics from scouting as I had as much fun looking at lambs as I did looking for mature rams! I did not kill the biggest ram in those mountains, nor the oldest. That said, I am super happy with him and he is going to look great on my wall! G&F determined it to be a 6 year old ram (probably born in the Picachos the year they were introduced) He nets 164 inches. An amazing once in a lifetime experience! I totally understand the fascination and addiction to finding sheep in the mountains. I hope to be a helper on somebody's hunt in the future!
