Thank you for the post. Most people do not realize what effect this will have on them! Not only will it close down the almost 9.2 million Acres of Arizona state trust lands but access to the federal lands behind that state trust lands! Just for an idea for size of Arizona state trust lands they are over 7 times bigger than the entire state of Delaware! My question is why would they want to seek legal council to see if they can close down the Arizona State Trust land or access through it??? The Arizona State Land Department is who is in charge of our state trust lands not the azgfd. I have seen our Azgfd commission do a lot of things I do not understand these last few years. It is almost like they are against the one that support them. I have spoken to a couple of old commissioners and they do not know what they are doing. One thing is for sure if the hunters do not stop their fighting amongst each other we are going to continue to lose! They are using the selfish nature of people to split them apart to make them weak. If you have the opportunity please go to the meetings and have a voice. I understand that it is tough when they do not listen but it gives you the ability to say something to your congressman and senators.

Attorneys love to flex with the cops and cops, like all of us really, hate to be wrong and called out. Very common thing. Knowing this is half the battle. The other half is knowing what protections citizens have via the constitution and the various court cases that have shaped current application of 1st, 4th & 5th amendments (these come up the most in daily policing) in daily practical/modern situations is the other half. As an officer it's wise to respect the intentions of the country's framers, know you're an agent of the government with limited but potent authority and stay calm. Going thru an ego posturing session is pointless and usually makes you look foolish. Walking away tail-tucked knowing you should have shut the heck up 1-5 minutes ago sucks, so know when to do that. My opinion on the encounter is thus: The officers should have approached the encounter as a conversation -- are you guys here for a hunt? No? Just camping? Great. Now create some small talk if it's possible and have a positive contact with the folks while staying aware while listening for contradictory statements and looking for signs of illegal activity. Unless you've seen something, heard something or witnessed an activity that can be construed as "hunting" you're really at the mercy of the man's statement, and quite honestly most people aren't doing crooked stuff so just chill out and talk to people. I have a many years-old experience in this specific arena from the citizen side. A group I was with was approached by AZGFD while we were legit camping, fireside sitting & beer/soda drinking -- no other activities -- and the guy was insistent on seeing our hunting licenses. He was refused that request because no one was hunting and we had nothing more than carry pistols inside the vehicles. The dude kinda lost his marbles and started to get angry. Then he wanted to search ice chests. He was declined that request, but kindly offered a chair, a spot at the fire and something cold to drink. Eventually he had to just leave. His whole approach sucked. It was a strange encounter and definitely a one-off. Never had that happen before or since. Everybody has the occasional bad day and I simply let it go. The most effective cops I've worked with were short on flex and big on being knowledgeable professionals who were approachable and widely conversant. They were far from being pushovers, but they knew when to apply authority and force and that was always when they needed to and legally could. It's all in the approach. That's my two cents. The intent of trust lands is to fund our school systems by using it to generate revenue. Selling land only provides a one time benefit. So finding other revenue streams is more beneficial: I.e. selling access through permit and license sales. Closing state trust lands to public access demonetizes the land thus eliminating its intended use. This would be the legal argument against closing the land.

we can only hope...and also remember the intent of state trust land is for the state to sell it off if/when funding is needed, so there's definitely no guarantees.

Pretty big stretch to assume they are going to close down 9.2MM acres of land. As has been said, it is likely to ensure they have the legal authority to take action as/if deemed appropriate.

Just spitballing here, but limiting access to certain leased land would make those leases more desirable. If you own land and post it, but now you can keep people off leased state trust land too. How much more could they charge for those leases? They are looking at closing it to hunting and closing access roads. This dovetails with Land Owner Tags. The leased land would not increase the quantity of tags, but would stop joe public from hunting those "private" areas

I think and I hope this doesn't Throw me under the bus but the SXS traffic has been crazy and they seem to think that they have the right of way and ETC/ and totally disrupting daily Deer/Javelina movement. Decided I have to move to a different area. Archery shooter, familiar with pinto creek and RDS off west of Rosevelt, but running out of time. any suggestions in the next few hours will be greatly appreciated

I agree and I think game and fish hasn't thought this whole thing through. The CHAMP permits were intended to get people out that have severe disabilities and allow them to use crossbows and shoot from a vehicle, in addition to hunts specifically for CHAMP permit holders. I'm sure their are fair number of people that have injuries to their upper extremities that restricts them from using compound bows and therefore crossbow permits were issued, but the majority of them are still able to hike and don't need to shoot from a vehicle and are not eligible to apply for CHAMP hunts. If these crossbow permits go away, I'm sure the pool of CHAMP permit holders is going to explode, which sucks for those people with mobility issues that draw those hunts.

This is a smaller fluid head that only holds up to about 6lbs I believe.. the same brand Avella does have a bigger fluid head that holds up to 13.2lbs, I bought that one this past year and threw my triclawps on it and have had no issues shooting from it.

Personally, not a fan of a new law for this. I have no problem with it if grown-ups want to pay somebody to point out areas to hunt. . . To each their own. The less government regulation the better in general

That’s why they bought the fuckin scouting package. Pins to places where they can start their hunt and scout as they go.

BTW: I check 594 lbs of meat to Casey's Processing, no ribs, hooves or spine only leg bones present. "Dave's" bull scored 122" B&C. I am very fortunate to have been able to share camp with accomplished hunters and persons like the "Slone" family. This has been truly a "Once and a Life Time" experience for me. I would not change a thing about the approach except......... I wish I had more time around the camp with these fellas! Can not say enough about Dean and his efforts while Mark and I monitored our locations. Here is Mark's nice bull as well! Congrats to Mark for his steady perseverance for 30 days!
