My good buddy and I went on our annual New Years Day bird hunt today. We started with a nice breakfast at First Watch and then headed out. Got to our first spot around 8:15, dropped a few and moved on to our honey hole. I was able to limit out by 1:00 and he was able to limit out by 3:30. Once again the coveys were huge, at least 20-30 some even more and once you busted them up, you could easily pick em apart. And they were calling/clucking all day again. Also came across this massive Crested Saguaro, these are definitely unique saguaros. And this large owl.

That is abundantly clear. Even the left leaning ESPN crew could tell the difference. You are the outlier here. I didn’t know you were from TX but I know you aren’t a steer…

Gen 1 Vortex Razer HD 16-48 x 65 angled with two stage focus. Includes original box and eyepiece cover. Somehow I left the objective cover when we were packing up to kill Nash’s sheep. Glass is perfect. Body is good. These Gen 1 spotters are getting hard to find now that they are out of production and many users regard them as superior to the update UHD versions in production. I like the size of this spotter and it lived in my pack unlike any other spotter I have ever used. Light enough that I rarely noticed it. Decided to switch back to a straight body so letting this one go for what I paid for it. $450 ftf in the east valley or ship on buyers dime.

The GoHunt app should let you see what units you can draw with only 3 points and give unit profiles. wgfd.wyo.gov will do the same. The winter of 2022-23 took a big toll on the deer and antelope in southwest Wyoming. I have 14 points for WY antelope and will see how this winter plays out. It will take a few more mild winters and no droughts for the herds to rebuild.

I would suggest looking at the north east units. Most of them take 3 or so points to draw in the regular draw and are guaranteed tags in the special draw. Also you can put the high point tag first choice and the easy one second in the draw and still build points. You are not going to drive around looking over a ton of antelope to choose from but you will definitely have opportunities on multiple bucks. My strategy in those units is look for large sections of land with limited access. If you can find sections that require some good hiking to get into, it will eliminate 95% of the competition. Here is a quick example I found. Hunt area 22, a unit I've never hunted. This big section is over 10 square miles with legal access from only one county road. It's a 2 mile hike just to get into the upper section.

I'm sitting at 12 antelope, 17 deer and 17 Wyoming elk points. Will probably start using them in the next 2-3 years. Antelope and elk archery only and deer I am undecided.

I’ve gone to WY twice, both times were pre ONX, and trying to make sure we were on public land on the first was a PIA. Ranchers would follow us around hoping you shot one on their ranch, as GF would hit you with a fine you had to pay to them… the next trip we paid a modest trespass fee to a local rancher who limited hunter numbers for lots of land , and it was waaay less stressful. Worth the money at the time, albeit that was 20+ years ago

Tessa was able to kill this giant lion yesterday with the help of Grady Lefebvre and his buddy Josh. It was a long day but well worth it when it comes to hunting with hounds Grady is a bad butt.
