I've been hunting 6b for the past week and finally was able to connect on a cow elk last night at sundown sitting water. She came in broadside at 47 yards and i let it fly. I followed the blood as far as I could follow then it stopped. Came back this morning for recovery and found her. Wish I saw her earlier because I think it may have been too long and now the meat is spoiled. But a great journey and happy to record this as a first elk and archery kill. Thank you to everyone who gave me advice to make this happen over the last few months.

I have had a few requests this week asking if I would be offering pecans for sale again this year. I am happy to offer 8 lbs of pecans including shipping for the same price as last year Which is $40.00 to your door. If you would like a few pounds less I am offering a 5 lb box shipped for $32.00. If you pick up at my home you can purchase for $4.00 lb. To place an order send your request to coues3pt@gmail.com telling me how many lbs you would like. You can order as many as you want and if you wish as some have done in the past have some sent directly to friends and family. My intention is to start shipments starting next week. I have put aside 600 lbs for members, friends and families. Many of you ordered pecans from me last year and Thanks Phil You can mail checks to Phil Carr 8502 E Calle Bolivar Tucson AZ 85715

So panic buy now, create a shortage and drive the prices up? Why not just sell some of the TP you hoarded and go for it?

Great thread. Elk hunting can definitely be a humbling thing. And then there are times where it seems too easy. Congrats on a great hunt. Your son will remember it for the rest of his life and learn from it. You can't say that you didn't give your all.

The internet has proliferated instant gratification. Fifty years ago it was the local newspaper, corner bar and Outdoor Life. When I was a kid it was ABC American Sportsman on TV which had about 12 channels. Bear, O'Conner, Keith, Hemingway, Capstick, Learner were my childhood heroes. I spent most of my youth in a small boat with a few friends exploring the Great South Bay of Long Island in the marshes, sometime all night at the age of 12. Parents didn't care and we often brough home enough fish and shellfish to feed out families for a few days but the bounty of those days is long gone.

This conversation can and probably will go down many paths from here but I’m sure glad I was able to hunt in a time before hunting became “cool” and so over commercialized. It wasn’t so long ago that there wasn’t a correlation between antler measurements and dik size. And that’s what this thread is pretty much all about, competition and jealousy! Yes game numbers were so much greater then without all the bs and has not as much to do with water as many like to think

If you are worried about 1 warden in your unit, flying his unit of patrol on official duty, you are a Karen.

Incorrect. AZGFD can only make rules. Laws are passed by the legislature. In the end they have the same effect but if we are getting technical your facts aren't facts, FACTS.

Some of you guys are too much. Why in the F do you care about a Game warden getting a tag in the unit he patrols? Odds are he might get 2 maybe 3 premium tags in his unit if he has a long career. Extreme jealousy I suppose. They make peanuts for salary, the least they can do is get a good hunt in every so often. 1 guy is not going to ruin your hunt unless you are after 1 animal and 1 animal only and it is also the one he is after......

Well my oldest son was drawn 3 yrs ago for 6A bull and couldn’t connect. He said if I were to get drawn again his tag would get filled, well he is a man of his word. Friday was a very slow day. Saw nothing. Saturday morning was different. Had a shot at 20 yds when this bull came in, unfortunately missed as it busted us. He was in awe to see an animal that large that close to him. He was shaking so much, I think I was kind of giggling watching him hold his bow. Chased that herd all morning, but cold never get another shot. Sunday went to the same spot and chased a herd all around, shot at a massive 6x, put his pin on 60 yd and shot over its back, after we ranged the tree it was standing next to it was 50 yds. He was bummed. Monday went to a new spot, were on bulls in the morning but not close enough. That evening got on 2 more bulls and was able to fling an arrow at 30 yds but hit a tree. Tuesday morning walked up to a small ravine and a huge herd was walking up to us, we stopped. He drew his bow back and out walked this spiker, before I could say anything about the 4x behind it he let it rip. It happened so fast I didn’t know what to do except ask, which one did you hit? He said the spike. We found blood immediately and found the bull piled up between 2 trees. High 5’s and hooting and hollering. As we were cleaning he asked I want to I find my arrow, I said how you shot it, it may still be in him, he said no way…..well sure as heck it was lodged right in him in the body cavity completely buried. 1st bull down for him and our whole family. Off to Casey’s and a nice lunch somewhere in Flag.

Ah, So he was flying well before his hunt started. hardly the crime of the century.

I had a lengthy discussion with a AZGFD officer at my sons field day. I explained the frustration with "grey area" stuff. He went on to explain spirit of the law, officer discretion etc. I had to explain to him that his job was law enforcement, not law interpretation. To the point that he asked me (in a condescending tone) of I was an attorney. I said "no, but I've been in law enforcement since you were drinking chocolate milk out of a Transformers lunchbox". We chuckled and found common ground.

I don't have any idea about what he was trying to locate. I don't know the man. I am just fed up with AZGFD overreach, bias, and bad WMs. Don't get me wrong, I personally know several great WMs. But you must have missed the part where he was flying what is said to be 1-2 weeks before his deer hunt, which is 100% legal. Only way it becomes illegal is if he had a tag for the OTC elk or was helping a hunter with a tag for that hunt. I haven't seen anyone or anything suggest that is the case. I would suspect you have some bias against Mr. Koury or guides in general? Seems something is clouding your basic logic?
