Good luck to everyone heading out this weekend! Here are some tips on properly taking care of velvet antlers: Keep Cool: Keep the buck cool, ideally in the shade, to slow down decomposition. Heat and blood can speed up the process. Drain Blood: If you're staying in the backcountry for a while, drain the blood from the antlers. Some recommend hanging the buck upside down by the skull and making pinholes in the tips of each tine with a knife to let the blood drain out. Protect from Flies: Cover the antlers to keep flies away, but avoid using a plastic bag. Instead, use a deer meat bag to allow for air circulation. Avoid Handling: Don't touch the velvet too much, as this can damage its appearance. Avoid holding the buck by its antlers when taking photos; pick it up by the ears instead. When packing out or transporting the antlers, don't drag them or let anything rub against the velvet. Wrap and Secure: When securing the antlers to your pack, wrap them just below the base with a soft, thick, breathable material, and then strap or tie rope around it. As soon as possible, either deep freeze the antlers or take them to a taxidermist. If you need a euro done or have any questions feel free to give me a call. 928-595-1554. I’m located in the East Valley.

For the lucky ones with unit 1 early archery/muzz/rifle tags the green up is great, water everywhere, tanks full, water in the road ruts. I’ve been camped here 4 days and 3 hours of lte afternoon rain is standard. I had the tag in 2020 and it was much drier. Good luck.

Had an opportunity to go to Alaska and fish the Kenai River. My first time to Alaska. It was awesome! Brought back 53 pounds of Sockeye salmon. My son put together this video for me. I'm a rookie at making a video, so bare with me.

Freeze drying is absolutely the best method! I typically only freeze dry the larger trophy type velvet antlers due to the cost. I usually preserve the smaller velvet antlers myself.

Every year i try and escape the Az heat and fill the freezer. This year was a great late run of sockeye salmon. With fish counts in the 100,000's it made for easy limits. The weather also cooperated to get in a day of halibut fishing out of Homer.

The boy, the dog and I headed up north for a few days before school started. The dog did some retrieves in A1, and Levi caught his first trout at Bog Tank.

My daughter has a late season bull tag for the area. Let's just say I like her chances at a bigger bull than most of the early season hunters will get a chance at

Learned the hard way that a good foam pad is a must on a cot if it is cold. Chef and I were scouting up in the Kaibab years ago and decided to just throw our cots up and sleep under the stars. At about 4 in the morning Hector whispers asking if I was awake. I instantly answered that I was because we both froze that night. The bottom of our sleeping bags were compressed against the cot and the cold air underneath us went right through our bags. Still the coldest and longest night I have ever had out camping.
