9mo later (yes, Troy/Authentic Taxidermy in Chino Valley completed under 9mo!) turned out an absolute picture perfect bugle mount. So happy. I thought this web site’s members would like to see the finished product (except Coues247, who wouldn’t shoot anything under 300” and forgot the pleasure of hunting less than a B&C score 😂 ) I don’t know what this guy measures, don’t really care. We are happy with the take.

Barrel is Kreiger Sendero 26.5 long 1:8.5 twist. With a 4 port 2.4 long Break shes a bit long but not too bad off hand. The owner is 6'4" and Length of pull is 14.25 so it kind of evens out. As it sits came out to 11 lbs or just a hair under. VX 5 scope is pretty light.

Can't say I've ever seen an elk bugle with his head down, but hey as long as you're happy. And yes, you are correct I wouldn't shoot anything under 300" but doesn't mean I care if others do.

Bump up…. just finished a batch of chicken and rice. Really good recipe if any other freeze dryers want it. Dries and rehydrates great. I ended up with 24 mylar bags of meals. Cost $52 in groceries. 4 equal squares per bag.

I have not hunted B, but I have hunted 35A, 34A, 32, 33, 30A for coues. I have 10s that I glass quite a bit with but spend most of my time glassing with 15s. I have had good success with both. A have spotted several coues with 15s from over a mile and put a stalk on them from there. The tripod is really the key for glassing whether it be 10s or 15s. If I were looking for 15s on a budget I would look for a pair of swaros (that have flooded the market now), next a pair of 1st gen Kaibab HDs 15x56s. I think mavens are a good option. Try GPO or Zeiss conquest. I don't typically carry a spotter. I don't like looking through a spotter for long periods.

Hi all, not new to the site but first time posting. After seven years as my first choice, I finally drew a 23 December late rifle whitetail tag. I've hunted 23S for years during the archery seasons and have several spots around Boyer Ridge and Tanner Peak that I know hold deer. I'm planning to backpack in if needed to look for 100"+ quality deer (pics of my two that didn't quite make it for attention). After drawing the tag I've had several people tell me I should scout and start in 23N for bigger/better quality coues. Any advice from someone with experience in 23 if it will be worth my time to scout new areas in 23N. I always planned on backpacking into the Tanner Peak area and have seen some nice deer in there earlier in the season. Thanks in advance.

I’d hunt where you know. It’d be easier glassing in the south as well.

Shoot the first buck you see over 105”? How many have you killed over that? Basically telling an out-of-stater who has probably never hunted coues to hold out for a booner? Lol. 33 is a good unit, but has been decimated by fires and tag numbers for years. I don’t know much about it but it will be a pretty good hunt. Have a good time, take your time and shoot whatever TF you want to shoot.

looks like he came for info and got it!!! And never came back. This is why some people on here need not to tell you spots to people who have under 5 posts...especially 1

Took these pics at the end of March. We have two dead palm tree trunks in our front yard, mama quail nested in one of them. They have since hatched and are roaming about. Palm trees trunks are just a bunch of fibers held together by the bark on the outside. You can stick your hand down thru the fibers and feel the difference in temp.

No ifs, ands or buts, it WILL be a great season next fall (at least for Gambels...). Like clockwork, given the solid winter/spring precipitation (at least in most areas), there will be a lot of birds. Most certainly a 'double hatch' year and possibly triple. LOVE IT!
