4 pointsI don’t really see the accomplishment in having 1 of 30 friends spot a buck for me to shoot. Maybe it’s just me…. I want to find the area myself, I want to pack in myself, I want to spot the deer myself, I want to stalk and shoot it myself, I want to break down and pack out the deer myself, and I want to process the meat myself. Of course if I’m with my brother or a buddy, we will help each other. To me, that’s what hunting is all about. Those are all aspects of what makes hunting what it is to me, and I take pride in how I go about every aspect. Each of those parts of hunting is equally important to me, and sacrificing any of those to have an army of helpers just to try to make sure I fill the tag, I’d personally feel no satisfaction in hunting that way

3 pointsOne of the issues that hasn't been discussed in the last few, is 30 dudes on a mountain have a negative impact on other people's hunts, and I dont think that's OK. A spotter sitting on a hill that another hunter with a tag wants to hunt is BS. Now another 29 dudes taking away "spots" from dudes with tags is major BS.

2 pointsHi all, not new to the site but first time posting. After seven years as my first choice, I finally drew a 23 December late rifle whitetail tag. I've hunted 23S for years during the archery seasons and have several spots around Boyer Ridge and Tanner Peak that I know hold deer. I'm planning to backpack in if needed to look for 100"+ quality deer (pics of my two that didn't quite make it for attention). After drawing the tag I've had several people tell me I should scout and start in 23N for bigger/better quality coues. Any advice from someone with experience in 23 if it will be worth my time to scout new areas in 23N. I always planned on backpacking into the Tanner Peak area and have seen some nice deer in there earlier in the season. Thanks in advance.

2 pointsLet’s be honest, with the this number of “30” helpers you guys really think 30 guys is a fair chase hunt? Surely you don’t need a precise number in the law book to know your getting an unfair advantage with 30 helpers

1 pointIn 2009 I moved to Payson to start work. I met a gentleman that was 40 years older than I was and we became close friends. I introduced him to a couple of my friends and over the years we have all kept in touch with Royce being the glue that kept us together. A month ago he fell in the shower and broke a couple of ribs, during his recovery and hospital stay is was determined he most likely had lung cancer and passed a couple of weeks ago, just shy of his 86 birthday. Thank you Royce for sharing your life with me and my children and dragging me out to glass for Coues and explore some of your favorite areas. God speed and I hope there is a Tripod and 15s set up in heaven just waiting for you.

1 pointLast year on my Colorado trip I caught a 26" 10 lb brown trout on the fly, I went back this year thinking I would end up disappointed and never top that fish... but God is good! caught this almost identical 26" 10 lb Rainbow on the fly, 100 ft from where I caught the big brown last year! I need to give full credit to my nephew who is a fly fishing guide in Colorado. If any of you are looking for a great guide and trip, message me and I'll get you in touch with him.

1 pointI'd be happy with 3 haha. Been hunting almost exclusively solo for many years now, and I happen to think I'm a pretty nice guy - just not social apparently

1 pointG$F most definitely has our modern style of hunting be it long range sniping or posse hunting figured into how many tags are issued so taking advantage of an edge I don’t think is technically cheating or unethical by today’s standards. Posse hunting is definitely pretty far from my style but I can see when someone pays $300k or whatever the “shooter” paid for that bull it really has become more just a harvest by any means necessary for that head on the wall. That’s just the world we live in. The 30 guys in the field helping Jimmy John kill that bull didn’t mess with anyone else’s hunt as it happened in August I believe. I guess if anyone participates in a hunt where it takes an army to kill an animal and he can feel good about himself that’s all that matters.

1 pointA new system will save you money, give more comfort. 19 years old that unit is probably full of relays. The new units are control boards, ECM motors and two stage on bigger units. Get a thermostat where you can set the dead band so the unit won't come back on until there is a one or two degree rise above the setpoint. With the newer units when there is a call for cooling the compressor starts and runs for 15 to 30 seconds, and then the fan comes on at a very low speed but ramps up to 100% in five seconds. As units get old the coils get dirty/clogged and that robs efficiency. A compressor is nothing more than an engine. Think car engine. One with 300,000 hours on it won't produce the same power or mileage as one with 10K on it.

1 pointI’ve seen it brought up a couple times of 30 guys surrounding a deer or elk. In Payson, it takes less than 10 minutes and you can be glassing somewhere in 22. Guys at work all chip in to help each other. I don’t feel it’s cheating if you are out in the woods glassing helping guys out, whether it’s two of you or 30 of you spread out. When somebody kills an elk in a hole, there might be 10-20 of us show up to help pack out. Sure there might be a picture of a bunch of guys in a kill photo but that doesn’t take away the friendship, tailgate beers, and good times. If you showed up with a dozen guys, sure that's probably not ethical and I may feel cheated, but that’s why you have a spare magazine to even up 🤣 All is good though. I’m not that passionate about how many guys hunt together, just seems like @trphyhntr is getting soft fishing every weekend so I just wanted to stir the pot.

1 pointG$F outlawed trail cameras because they thought it violated fair chase but you think 30 guys working together to kill and elk is ethical?
-
1 pointFair chase has lost a lot of its meaning. We’re not really playing the same game as it was 60 years ago. I wouldn’t get too caught up in what is fair Chase in 2024.

1 pointi met him a few years ago and he is a super nice guy, about the poaching i'm not surprise i think most outfiters cheat one way or the other, look at the guys that got the elk for Jimmy Johns they had like 30 guys all over, isn't that cheating also? i think is cheating legally. that elk never had a chance.

1 pointFrom my understanding he was going to fight the citation but was on the verge of retirement anyway so decided it was not feasible and accepted the plea deal. Mr Adam's is the reason coues hunters carry high powered binoculars.

1 pointNever mind. It turns out, the water pump/cooling system works best when all hoses are attached.

1 pointTwo half grown ones apparently snuck in the house yesterday when the wife left the door open. The ongoing texts from her as she tried to herd them out, while being "helped" by our heeler that hates all birds, flying or running, along with our new young lab that didn't know what to do, had me very entertained while at work. The heeler caught and killed one, the other is still at large as of today. I'm surprised the house is still standing. I've been anxiously awaiting the sequel to yesterday....
