Best info on rim country in that area is Blue Ridge Ranger District (928) 477-2255

Rim rd was closed and cocinno rds closed not the forest. so everyone that wanted to hunt 4a,5s rds were closed no access and everyone that wanted to camp or go to bear knoll or woodscanyon lakes could not due to rds closed so they all camped in 4b and all went to willow springs lake. It was crazy never seen cars lined up to the 260.

I was extremely fortunate to pick up this 1986 Johnson 9.9hp outboard from Sam. He was an excellent seller and I appreciate the ease of communication and transaction. Thank you, Sam! The motor was purchased with no questions asked and with similar experiences restoring/maintaining 70-90s OEM outboards, I ordered the anticipated service parts. When I hooked up the fuel for the intital test, fuel spewed from the inlet to the fuel pump. Instead of the entire fuel pump for an additional $60, I had ordered the fuel pump repair kit betting the rubber diaphragms needed replaced. If you don't have youth motor skills with your hands, you may be better off getting the entire pump, the springs suck. YMMV. Fuel continued to shoot after the fuel repair kit. It ended up being a crack on fuel filter cap once the kit was installed. No biggie, another $11 Luckily, a 1976 4hp I own shared the same cap I found cracked and testing continued.. 20240422_185635.mp4 Immediate fire and glory, but nothing out of the tell-tale. I removed the water outlet and it was clogged. Even after, still no water in the outlet. I have the water pump and carb kits ready to deploy through the week, more to come. Thanks again, Sam.

Solo hunt. Had no one to take my picture. Like you said real quiet this morning, came running in silent. One shot from my son's 20 gauge did the trick.

Congrats everyone!! Great pics! Had snow on the ground this a.m. mostly gone but windy again. Going to be back in the 70's the next few days, less wind should be great hunting again.

I think you’re repeating yourself, as my wife tells me……

No snow except a few very dark north facing pockets…handful of sheds. Haven’t hit the “pocket” yet but hopefully soon. Lots of miles of great country 👍

You should have called the Heber Ranger Office. They are getting rain and snow tonight and tomorrow till the afternoon. Roads could be a real mess. Might want to wait a few days and let the road dry out. Could always park the 5th wheel and drive in to hunt.

I was in off 95 all over shed hunting last weekend and roads were decent. I was up there today and got a bit of snow but melting quickly. Good luck 👍

Nice job Shea! Glad you know your way around these motors and it didn't cost too much extra to get it running. Best of luck at Big lake, one of my favorite places to fish.

CVA Wolf is a great starter gun, Optima also. 200 yards is getting far to have any knock down power left, they drop off fast that far out. Pellets are super easy to start out with just to get the hang of things. I really miss the real Goex black powder. Tons of Youtube videos.

Cva wolf or accura ,optima are good bang for your buck guns I'd go 45 cal for what your after and use blackhorn 209 for powder. They work like a break open shotgun for the most part. You measure your powder and pour it down the barrel then next is the projectile/ bullet . Run the ram rod to seat the bullet against the powder. Then you open the action and use the recommended primer most are 209 shotgun . Muzzle-loaders.com has a good selection and will ship to your door. If you can't weigh powder you can run pellets in the correct caliber. 45cal or 50 Most pellets are corrosive so cleaning is a must after use. Blackhorn is not corrosive and is the best .

CVA Accura LR-X or MR-X, use Blackhorn and stay under max loads, they are pretty simple to learn

With shifter in forward position, it took six 3/8" bolts to drop the gearcase and one 3/8" bolt to remove the shift linkage to get to the water pump today. The old water pump and driveshaft have some wear but the impeller was in good shape. Found the shaft key below the pump (likely culprit). Regardless, all cleaned and replaced. Runs excellent for no carb work or spark plugs. Those and gear oil change left. Stay tuned.. 20240424_190416.mp4
