Had a great trip with some buddies over to NM last month. This is my 2nd Oryx first one was a bull and this one was a cow. The costs have increased and I figured they looked enough alike I didn't care if it was a bull or cow. Few years ago bull Last months cow

My first "off-Road" vehicle also. I love bugs!

They look similar, not the same. A-lot like identifying a boar or sow with bears, the more you look over and hunt them the more you can identify cow vs. bull.

"Super Beetle" had a curved windshield. I can't tell from the pic but the 69' and up had better rear suspension for catching air on gas line roads. I owned 2 63's (one chopped to a Baja) and a 65' back in the day. Fun and cheap to work on. Funny story. My 63' was my daily driver in high school. I had 2 jobs at the time as well. I had a "gathering" at my folks house one night when they were out of town and one of my friends took my bug to resupply libations. When he brought it back, he said it was stuck in second gear. I tried everything to pop it out of second and it wasn't happening. I had to be to work at 4 AM the next day. There happened to be a friend at this gathering who had a 63' "Baja" with a bad motor. I didn't have the all of cash he wanted but he said he would give me the car and hold the title until I paid in full. That was good enough for me. We hitched my dad's homemade dolly to my stepmoms 79' T-bird and went to his house. It was knocking like heck and actually split the case on the motor and puked all of the oil when we pulled it onto the dolley. Me and my best pal swapped the motor and license plate from my car that night and I drove it to work the next day. I even got pulled over a few days later because the Baja was lacking mirrors. I handed the cop my registration from the other car and he wrote me a fix it ticket and sent me on my way! Simpler times for sure.

I have a brand new pair of Swarovski STC 17-40 Spotters mounted on Adams Adapters big eyes plate. These are brand new and have only been mounted on the Adams Adapter and collimated. Comes with original boxes and the warranty cards have not been filled out. These are crystal clear and like glassing through a giant pair of ELs. The field of view is beyond amazing! They are compact and light enough to throw in your pack hit the hills with. Unfortunately, I thought my pupillary distance was close enough to run these, but I’m a little too narrow. Save $1,263.00 and come snag up this amazing deal for $4900! Will not ship! Located in Chandler and available pretty much whenever. My son made a great shot on this Tom opening morning. It was fun to hear him gobble when he was really close, it was so loud you can almost feel it. He strutted for us for like 15 minutes. I was happy my son was patient and waited for the right opportunity and got a clean one shot kill. This is his third turkey and it is fun to see him get so excited. I am glad I get to share these hunts and memories with him each year.

With shifter in forward position, it took six 3/8" bolts to drop the gearcase and one 3/8" bolt to remove the shift linkage to get to the water pump today. The old water pump and driveshaft have some wear but the impeller was in good shape. Found the shaft key below the pump (likely culprit). Regardless, all cleaned and replaced. Runs excellent for no carb work or spark plugs. Those and gear oil change left. Stay tuned.. 20240424_190416.mp4

I think it’s $1650 or something for a tag. NM doesn’t have points so odds never get better. Depending on what hunt you do you have around a 1-3% chance at drawing a tag on average I believe.

Chance gets out there, 500, 600 yards, but holds till I get there. So Im fine with that. He responds to a whistle immediatly, so Im confident with that. Kate stays 100 to 300 yards, and constantly checks back to me. Both dogs have gps collars and respond to recall immediatly. So , I think it works our perfect for me

It's always a fun time to be in the woods, that's what I "try" to convey to my kids. I had a tough time calling this weekend, but have learned a ton from Ammons passion over the last 20 years of friendship. The tom that was called in, we definitely had to fight for his attention. We had about 3-4 gobblers and to many hens to count that we were competing with first thing Saturday morning. My boy made a excellent shot and game over.

Well the posting states pointing dogs range. Hunting with Flushing dogs is a whole different type of hunting.
