My son made a great shot on this Tom opening morning. It was fun to hear him gobble when he was really close, it was so loud you can almost feel it. He strutted for us for like 15 minutes. I was happy my son was patient and waited for the right opportunity and got a clean one shot kill. This is his third turkey and it is fun to see him get so excited. I am glad I get to share these hunts and memories with him each year.

My son is jealous of the kids who have good turkey hunters for dads.

It's always a fun time to be in the woods, that's what I "try" to convey to my kids. I had a tough time calling this weekend, but have learned a ton from Ammons passion over the last 20 years of friendship. The tom that was called in, we definitely had to fight for his attention. We had about 3-4 gobblers and to many hens to count that we were competing with first thing Saturday morning. My boy made a excellent shot and game over.

IMG_4145.mov I was able to take my first Arizona goulds turkey a couple weeks ago with the help of my buddy Christian. He had hunted this unit last year and had a good idea where we needed to go and it did not take long.

My hunting partner Jim was with us on Friday and Saturday and handled the calling. He wasn't able to be with us sunday, and promptly, my son looks at me and says "Dad that doesn't sound like Jim's calling."

So true, after the Sunday morning hunt, my son suggested I find a call that I can be more consistent with. He said, " Dad, you don't sound like the actually hens, maybe you should try a box call" He had the nerve to tell me this after I called in toms on two separate setups... No dead big for us but we had a blast.

It depends. The ideal dog will run big (I don't much like them out beyond 1/2 mile) as long as they will hold and not push the covey. After the birds are broken up the dog really needs to SLOW down and work tighter when working singles. However, I've only had 1 dog out of 5 that truly figured it out and would slow down after the initial rise and really excelled at finding singles. I guess that's why you run them in braces so that each dog can compliment the other!

Well the posting states pointing dogs range. Hunting with Flushing dogs is a whole different type of hunting.

    I would remove the 6.5x284 N it needs a standard long action. 1. 6.5 CM 2. 260 REM.

They are all gonna be close on price in my opinion but overall popularity and size of audience might lean toward Creedmoor. Maybe 260 a distant 2nd for size of available buyers. Resale on a custom build will hurt your feelings most of the time. Most lose their butt on resale with customs.

Haha. Ducks, cranes and geese is where it’s at!! Pheasants are time fillers!!
