Rough day. The man whom taught me to hunt, fish, never whine and by example; how to honor the women in my life, passed 5 years ago today. He was old school, tough, unapologetic and worked hard for the family. 92 years young, WWII vet and still sharp as a tack. I think he had a pretty good run

Don't forget about the hunter survey from 15 - 20 yrs. ago that was intended to determine management direction of the department for at least the next generation of hunters. I don't recall the name of the survey, but it was a big deal at the time and considered to be a watershed decision point with respect to what did the hunting community want - a wildlife resource managed for trophy potential (older age class animals, less opportunity), or more opportunity overall? The vote from all of us hunters was pretty decisively in favor of more opportunity. Of course this was before anyone could anticipate the trail cam issue, OHV issue, or Arizona's exploding population. Anyway, some of the others on the forum can weigh in a provide more detail but that is my recollection.

Are they going to raise fees on tags and licenses to be able to do that? Where would they get funds from? Cut employees? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Saw some nice bass near shore under the bridge Saturday, they were in the flooded trees. We were watching a few guys fishing in that area catching a few but getting snagged mostly.

Tim - I am going to send you a PM. We messaged a few weeks back about some BP. I have a list of guns I will share with you.

Tags fees go into the general account, so they don’t go toward habitat projects. But you knew that already…. They study purple footed guppies with the general fund money from your tag fees. My guess is there will be about a $1,000,000 loss of revenue with this decision for habitat projects per year. Putting this here to look back on in 5-10yrs.

So if the same amount of revenue is generated from a raffle, I am having a hard time supporting the current auction structure. Since I was planning on winning the Powerball this week, I better hurry up and purchase the few remaining tags!

The organizations don't get a penny for auctioning/raffling off the tags. All the money goes to Game and Fish, who can then fund various projects with it. As far as attendance at the banquets potentially being down and decreasing the funds raised for any particular organization, the majority of the raffle tags are purchased by a guide that attends solely for the purpose of buying the tag on behalf of one of his rich clients. With a few exceptions, the guide wasn't typically there to participate in the banquet or spend much other money that would then help the fundraising efforts of the organization. Eliminating the auction tag sale at a banquet will likely only remove one or two attendees from any particular banquet, and they weren't going to spend money on anything else anyway.

Helll yea! Right when I was getting divorced, my boy wanted to go rabbit hunting so we did a few times. He loved it and loved the rabbit stew.

I took my boy down to the desert to help a couple of buddies on a javalina hunt. On the 5hr drive down all he could talk about was wanting to kill and eat a rabbit. As luck would have it mid morning Friday this guy changed shade trees on the ridge right by camp. A few shots later this sucker was on the camp stove getting cooked for lunch. Not my favorite but that lil guy was so proud it was amazing.
