Was out pig hunting last week and walked up on this mule deer dead head. I never find anything cool so it was nice to get lucky.

We had a tougher than usual day on this hunt. Friday we glassed all day without any breaks, didn't see any pigs early on but found flocks of turkeys, mule deer and coues deer everywhere. About 4:30pm Friday I was able to glass up a herd 3 miles out. I knew there were hunters about 1000 yards from the herd but it didn't look like they have seen em yet. We drove a bit closer and started the mile hike to the herd. We only need to crest one more ridge to see the herd and try to get a shot when we heard 4 gunshots. Guess the hunters did find the pigs or another hunter did. We stood there to check for any pigs running in our direction and no luck. We started the long hike back to the ranger and when we were about 500 yards away we got a strong whiff of the javelina skunk smell. We stopped and I looked around and found a group of 4 trotting up a hill side. It was almost sunset so we started moving quickly to cut them off and we were able to get to 75 yards. I told my wife to shoot the last pig in the group and this guy took the bullet without moving much. Stood for 10 seconds with broken shoulders and lung shot. He was a tank of a javelina, he ate well!

Gutless for sure. I have done both. It just depends on how far I am from camp, time of day etc but now that I'm in my 70's I find it easier to pack out 15# of meat than a gutted Javi. Back in the early 90's I shot a Mule Deer in New River just below Table Mesa, maybe 50' from the top shooting from the flats below. I was hunting solo and packed out three quarters, loins, neck meat and the head in one trip about a mile back to camp and that was tough. I was in my early 40's and in top shape. A few years later on a late hunt in 29 I shot a 3x3 WT maybe a mile from camp but I was 1500' above it. I decided then that I wasn't taking any bones and boned the whole thing out and decided I had enough meat and there wasn't anything in the cavity I wanted. My first gutless method long before anyone coined it. I also did a Bear and a Caribou the same way way back then. The Doc hasn't given me the long face yet but I'm not fooling myself and hope I have another ten or so years left of big game hunting.

Saw my third while I was in 37B looking for a pig. This one was in a ditch where run off water went into a wash, it had its head moving from side to side, and was flicking it's tongue like a snake. I don't know if it was using it's tongue as a sensor, finding it's way, or if it was snagging bugs that I couldn't see.

that's a great looking passle of wrecking machines.... I tell everyone who gets a lab pup for the first time, say goodbye to everything you cherish until after the terrible twos...they're like the Tasmanian Devil in the Bugs Bunny cartoons.

I hadn't seen this done myself. We gut and skin them out and have chorizo or some form of brats or sausage made . He was asking me and I didn't know myself so there is why I'm asking . Seems like a waste of a few good pounds of meat especially if you've already skinned the back and hopefully removed the gland. It's not much more to just clean the rest out.

Figured I’d post here first as this is an amazing hunting rig! 2008 attitude dual axel 4k on board onan generator great floor plan, 2 drop down beds, top is Queen, bottom is bench that could be another Queen, side bench folds down to another twin bed, and table and benches turn into a double bed. 65 gallons fresh water, I think a 30 gallon gas tank with pump. Electric front Jack, and 2 30lb propane tanks. has been a great camper, but we only use it 2-3 times a year. pulled with 2013 Tundra load leveling hitch included rear camera queen creek, riggs and power area call or text 4802983708 for quickest response. $9000 or make an offer

Thank you, The muzzle velocity is 2912 according to JBM Ballistics it should still be around 2000fps and over 2500 ft-lbs off energy at that distance, way more then is needed for a stink pig, but there still fun to shoot

I'll be the first to say that javelina should not be on the list of animals that you should have to take the meat out of the field in the first place. Props to them for taking what they did take.

And to answer the question, I packed mine out whole. Gut in the field obviously but pack the entire Pig out. I then debone it completely turn the shoulder blades and rib bones and everything else into dog food.

It looks like the quarters are gone as well and someone used the gutless method.
