We had a tougher than usual day on this hunt. Friday we glassed all day without any breaks, didn't see any pigs early on but found flocks of turkeys, mule deer and coues deer everywhere. About 4:30pm Friday I was able to glass up a herd 3 miles out. I knew there were hunters about 1000 yards from the herd but it didn't look like they have seen em yet. We drove a bit closer and started the mile hike to the herd. We only need to crest one more ridge to see the herd and try to get a shot when we heard 4 gunshots. Guess the hunters did find the pigs or another hunter did. We stood there to check for any pigs running in our direction and no luck. We started the long hike back to the ranger and when we were about 500 yards away we got a strong whiff of the javelina skunk smell. We stopped and I looked around and found a group of 4 trotting up a hill side. It was almost sunset so we started moving quickly to cut them off and we were able to get to 75 yards. I told my wife to shoot the last pig in the group and this guy took the bullet without moving much. Stood for 10 seconds with broken shoulders and lung shot. He was a tank of a javelina, he ate well!

I took my boy down to the desert to help a couple of buddies on a javalina hunt. On the 5hr drive down all he could talk about was wanting to kill and eat a rabbit. As luck would have it mid morning Friday this guy changed shade trees on the ridge right by camp. A few shots later this sucker was on the camp stove getting cooked for lunch. Not my favorite but that lil guy was so proud it was amazing.

You can buy the stuff for .75 a round now. You'll have to sell it for less if you want to move it. Or wait till the next ammo drought.

Hello CWT! I wanted to start a topic to get this going. I drew the 1st bull hunt starting 3/29. I put in for this hunt as a tribute to a friend whom pass away last year after working with him 25 years. After helping his family settle his estate I was willed his 375 H&H Ruger No.1. I had been adding bonus points and 23 points I decided to put in. Much to my surprise, my card was charged last fall on his birthday. Any other members or friends out there whom have the 1st hunt for bull starting 3/29? I was wondering if the drama has decreased recently? Any help is greatly appreciated.

My dad drew the unit 1 coon canyon antlerless elk, I think he put in for that by accident... I think he'll be using his point guard.

i seen the thread and the my curiosity got the better of me. ha ha. My mom grew up on rabbits as a kid. I found this site: https://www.hostilehare.com/ I am pretty sure he's down here in the valley though. He's got everything you might need to get started. Breeders, cages, and even just meat if you wanna try it I also agree with Schmitty... but yuma might be a bit of a stretch. Reach out to the local Ag instructor at the high school near you. They might have a contact and help a kid out

Single life is badasss. Just as is this muzzy. Mark and I doubled up on leftovers a few years back. Someone take over my alimony payments, and I'll buy this thing myself.

I can't believe you haven't sold that. If you can advertise that in Flagstaff, I'll bet it would go quickly up here. When I got mine a year ago (2022) the dealership only had that one and there was a list of people who were making appointments to come see it. PowerWagons are super popular up here. I love mine. Good luck!

I honestly would avoid going up there until the last 2-3 weeks depending on the snow melt. You will be fighting Russ, crew and his snow machines getting to the only salt that will be hit opening weeks. There’s almost double the salt out there than what’s listed. This hunts success rate depends a lot on the weather and snow melt. Soon as that happens and there’s access plan on being up there as long as you can. The guides are successful up there by sitting blinds, cutting track and spot n stalk. Dont get caught up sitting a blind for days unless you have sign of them hitting that particular salt. Hunt your hunt. Dont let anybody dictate how you would normally hunt. It’s your tag!

Had this same hunt a few years ago. My best friend made it up for a week and was with me when I finally tagged out after 21 days. Little did I know that it would be his last big game hunt. So many great memories up there. My advice is buy, borrow, or rent a tracked vehicle( snowmobile or UTV) and go the opening 4-5 days to the trick tank/salt lick at the west end of the 268 road. They always kill 2-3 good bulls in the first few days at the far west end of the hunt area but you will have to typically get thru some deep snow to get there. After that first 4-5 days I would wait until the last 2 weeks of the hunt and go at it hard. There is no way to avoid the guides, hopefully you only have to deal with 1 or it could get ugly. There is a fakebook group you can join if you want more up to date info, just keep in mind that some of the things posted there are not entirely accurate and may be intended to deter DIY hunters. Good luck! Hope you get a great bull!
