Pretty simply, glassed them up in a old honey hole. Got to 215, had to wait for them to get broadside. Picked out the biggest one and let the 1955 model 70 243 have at it. One shot, 7 yard stumble and the big old sow was done for.

Gotta stick with the old rifle, and old wife… if I bought this hot, new rifle, I’d want or need a hot new.wife, and I can’t afford either.

Reading the posts from guys who had tags last fall most were doom & gloom with regards to numbers of deer seen and the lack of bucks.

And the unit manager thinks the mule deer are declining in that unit and proposing cutting tag numbers . So will be even less available.

Do you have a plan for keeping them cool thru the summer? AZ heat and rabbits don't mix very well. We used to use large blue ice blocks which needed to be swapped out midday so 2 per rabbit per day even in full shade. Otherwise, they are pretty easily kept. I personally like hybrid does that are 1/2 Flemish Giant with a NZ or CA buck as it gives a bit more length to the loin and hind legs which is where all the meat on the carcass is. Good luck! It certainly is doable and will be good for your kids. It's been 30 years since I sold my last rabbit so I can't offer much help on where to look. I'd get your kids involved with the local 4H club and there should be plenty of resources to get you started.

How long for the first posts with questions in the unit they got drawn for? you don’t have to tell your hotspots but just point in the general direction…. you know it’s gonna come.

The past couple years I've been trying to fill my javi tag using my late grandfather's .50 Hawken (CVA actually). This year it all came together finally. Used an 1858 New Army for the follow-up shot. Enjoy!

I'm sure no one cares but here's the story 👍. Friday we had no school so my son and I headed out and I'm the last person with a HAM tag. We didn't see any javelina all day and about 80 coues deer and 6 bucks. We covered tons of country and got chased by some angry cows with newborns. We saw a hog nosed skunk in the day time and I'm sure it had rabies the way it was moving around. Sunday I headed out with my sister and pops, same thing as Friday, we didn't see diddly squat in the morning. If we were lucky we would have found 5 herds the way we glassed. About noon we were ready to have lunch and I decided to check out some north facing slopes before eating. I was able to glass up a herd of javelina bedded down. I was able to sneak in above the herd about 80 yards. I wanted to use the pistol but the pigs got up and started moving around and I couldn't find a clear lane to shoot so I used the muzzleloader. I was able to get a 49 yard shot on this nice size male.

It’s hard to compare the glass honestly. It’s extremely clear and holds light well. I would say in between the vortex vipers and the razors.
