Hey guys, January was really good this year. I was able to see a lot of animals and was able to go on plenty of stalks. with that being said, I also got my butt kicked plenty of times. With January winding down. I found myself on the 27th looking at this deer in his bed in a really good area to approach him not being a fan of hunting in August in September I decided that I would be super happy with this buck if I was lucky enough to close the distance and get an arrow in him. With the conditions that day being super windy, it helped a lot with my stalk and I was able to get into a comfortable distance and get a shot on this buck when he got out of his bed. It all worked out and I was very happy with this buck and the stalk that I put on him.
My wife and I got tags together this year for the same hunt for the first time. We were real excited for this hunt, more than usual.
Opening day I spotted her buck 2100 yards out and figured he was a mid 80’s buck. We kept an eye on him every 5 minutes to see where he beds down. While keeping tabs on him we saw 10 other bucks but nothing worth chasing after. Once her buck bedded down under a tree, we marked the spot and started the stalk. We snuck into 330 yards and the rest is history. The buck had a bigger body than we thought and scored right at 90. We had a long pack-out back to the ranger and feeling the aches and soreness today.
Over the next few days we looked over 30 bucks or so. I was looking for a 4+ year old buck (secretly trying to beat my wifes buck!) I didn’t have any luck. Monday morning came and I spotted a big 2x2 buck that we have seen maybe 8 times and never gave chase to him. He bedded down during grey light and the wife and I took off. We snuck into 380 yards and waited about an hour for him to stand up and the hunt was done. My buddy Christian showed up to help out with the morning Monday hunt, he carried out some weight which was nice! Thanks amigo!
Overall deer movement was phenomenal even with the full moon. The freezer is full with our bucks and my sons junior buck. We’ll definitely put in together again next year.
Had the opportunity to head up to my good buddy’s place in Colorado between Christmas and New Year’s to help him on a special deer tag in one of Colorado’s Open Space hunts.
We were able to find a great buck for him on the first day and he made a perfect shot. That freed up 3 extra days to head to his ranch to chase lions and I was able to harvest a beautiful cat on the first morning out. I’ll spare you all the read and you can watch both hunts!
I made a bucket of spaghetti. 2lbs lean ground beef, Paul Newman Sockarooni, jalapeño from my moms garden. I thought I could eat it all. Wrong. Sugar free fat free pudding, scoop of whey, egg white, sugar free whipped cream. So fn good.
Unfired with box. Browning X-bolt hells canyon LR 6.5prc. It has a Talley Picatinny rail with a level built in. Asking $950 for the both of them.
Redding delux die set. Asking $100
I wanted something lighter than my 7-08 . That thing is a tack driver but it's a easy 15 lbs . I've got the big stuff covered with a few different heavy calibers . This was purpose built to be as light as I could make it but still have the long barrel. It should be heck on just about everything and still bang steel if I get some time to shoot.
Early dinner - pasta with shrimp, green and yellow zucchini and few leftover asparagus, in a very lite cream sauce with garlic, cilantro and basel, parmesan, tightened up with a splash of pasta water.
