Hey guys, January was really good this year. I was able to see a lot of animals and was able to go on plenty of stalks. with that being said, I also got my butt kicked plenty of times. With January winding down. I found myself on the 27th looking at this deer in his bed in a really good area to approach him not being a fan of hunting in August in September I decided that I would be super happy with this buck if I was lucky enough to close the distance and get an arrow in him. With the conditions that day being super windy, it helped a lot with my stalk and I was able to get into a comfortable distance and get a shot on this buck when he got out of his bed. It all worked out and I was very happy with this buck and the stalk that I put on him.

Colby had 3 bps going into this draw and drew tag #1 for his multi unit hunt. This week we double checked the rifle and shooting strategies and started putting gear together. I let him choose where he wanted to start opening day, he picked the farthest unit and the farthest part away from home. This morning we left the house, made a lucky superstitious stop at a gas station for his doughnuts and hit the road. When we got to the first glassing spot, we couldn’t see crap. The fog was pretty good this morning. We spent 45 minutes watching funny videos and listening to music while the sun killed the fog. We glassed for an hour, didn’t see any pigs moving but coues were in full rut. We moved to our second glassing spot. After a while we got lucky and spotted pigs below us 300 yards away feeding in the oaks. We grabbed our gear and when we got to 220 yards, Colby said he can make the shot. I’d like him to get 150 or so but he was confident. We got the rifle set up and he got on the larger boar right away. After a few practice squeezes he felt ready and let the rifle bark. The pig hit the ground hard on the quartering to shot (messy gutting job). This boar had some age and stink to him. We took our time, cleaned the pig and took pictures. We picked up some roadside burritos and hit the road on the way home.

This bobcat and I have had 3 years of cat and mouse. I spotted him yesterday at 60 yards. I took a couple photos with my camera that I carry with me on a tripod while hunting, thinking I had a slim chance at even getting a shot with my bow so might as well get some pictures. To my surprise, he obviously noticed me too but instead of running off like he did in previous run ins, he instead walked towards me and sat down at 55 yards. I drew back and centered between my 50 and 60 yard pins and I center punched his chest. He didn’t move an inch. He’s a beauty of a bobcat and am looking forward to having him mounted.

I'm having a rifle built from Kyle from Craigs Custom Rifles right now. Went with a proof carbon barrel, defiance rebel action, mcmillan stock. I was gonna go with a lone Peak Fuzion ti but after talking with Kyle i went with the rebel. He had nothing bad to say about Lone Peak at all but had talked about other titanium actions out there and some of the problems over time.

Pretty judgey of you. The crossbow permit was put in place for people with an 85% disability in their ability to shoot a bow by AZGF. So, anyone who can’t shoot a bow anymore should just have to give up the September hunts? All OTC opportunities as well? Disabled vets included? I had three shoulder surgeries for various injuries, I guess I faked them all. Had more than few months I couldn’t have cast a fishing rod, much less fought a fish. If I finally draw another antelope tag when my grandson is old enough to hunt and choose to transfer the tag to him while I’m alive, and able to share the excitement of a new hunter getting to hunt an animal that would take him possibly into his 40s to draw on his own makes me guilty of “abusing” the system, I’ll abuse it. you left out the CHAMP permit group, I guess the mobility impaired are abusing it as well. If you can’t walk , stay home! Enjoy your view from up there on your soapbox.

For sale Girsan MC312 semi-auto 12g shotgun. Purchased this earlier in the year for an all around 12g turkey/quail/dove shotgun. Shoots 2 3/4”,3”,3 1/2” shells, camo pattern with bronze/matte green trim. Comes with 5 chokes (F,IC,C,M,IM) with small choke tube carrier and tool, original box and paperwork. Shoots absolutely great. Only reason selling is due to my shoulder issues. Shot minimal times since I didn’t get drawn for turkey. Pictures coming soon. I shot this buck on January 7 at approximately 11:00 am. I glassed the buck from about 400 yards and stocked within 48 yards. This took me about 2.5 hours. I have included a picture that I took through the spotting scope before I started my stock. I shot him as he stood up out of his bed. He had no idea that there was a problem until it was too late. The shot was quartering away and he only ran 30 yards before he was down. I put a tape on him and his gross score is 107 0/8 non-typical. He has a 14 6/8 inside spread, his first mass measurement is 3 7/8, his main beams are 16 4/8 each and the drop tine or split main beam which ever you would like to call it is 4 4/8. This is the biggest Coues deer I have taken with my bow.
