1 pointI glassed up what looked like a bone white tine, and to the left I could see a spine. right after that I move my binos and glassed up a lion at last light. First one I’ve ever seen. went back the next morning for the head and I found about a 105” on the way to it.

1 pointI have to start this post with a huge thank you and shout out to @CatfishKev. The man is such a gent and frikken amazing at glassing. It’s a privilege to be learning from you bud! I truly have learnt so much from our outings- here’s to many more! I managed to get some time off work to assist Kev for a weekend on his son, Caliche’s hunt and do some scouting for this hunt. This one was actually my friend’s first big game hunt in Arizona and he’d asked me for some help, of course I reached out to Kev as well 🙂 We arrived on Thursday evening, filled with hope which was actually well placed, as we found about 16 bucks during this trip. On Friday morning we glassed up 4 buck in a meadow. They weren’t big, but they were also a bit beyond a comfortable shooting range. Friday afternoon we visited a different spot where we glassed up some more smaller bucks and quite a few herds of does and fawns. We were also caught in a rainstorm that resulted in one of the most vivid double rainbows I can remember seeing. Saturday morning had us in the same spot, this time with Kev’s hunting pal Bucky the Boston Terrier in tow, where we found 2 beautiful big buck, who were feeding towards us. We made some plans to put our hunter in position but they picked up on something and turned back to where they came from. Feeling our cover blown we visited another area- no deer this time, but we found quite a few javelina and coyotes. Saturday afternoon had us in another spot- loads and loads of does and fawns but no bucks this time. Sunday morning was our last chance. We went to our most promising spot where Kev glassed up a beautiful buck before it was even light. A big Roman nose, big bodied and a good rack. We put a plan in place, but devastatingly bumped some does who ran straight to the buck who hightailed it with them. Feeling rather dejected, we returned to the glassing point to resume the search. We glassed up some sparring spikes very far away, and with the thinking of something is better than nothing again, hatched a plan to put our hunter in position. This time I stayed with Kevin and we guided him in. He managed to get extremely close (from where we were it seemed almost archery range) while they continued. While this excitement was going on- we spotted 4 additional buck, 2 of them certainly big bucks making their way straight to where our hunter was currently hidden. We excitedly told him to wait for them and our anxious wait started. They kept coming closer and closer and it seemed like they were about to step on him while we continued waiting to hear a shot. The hunter then excitedly told us he could see one. It was one of the smaller buck, and the bigger two were still approaching… The smaller one however knew something was up, he backtracked around a bush to get a look from the other side and fortunately one of the big bucks stepped forward and into our hunters target and we finally heard a shot! We waited a few minutes, watching for any movement before we packed our scopes to make our way down to find our happy hunter- with a beautiful, hugely bodied, mature buck. I’m almost convinced it was the buck Kevin had spotted first thing. What a beauty for a first time AZ hunter!

It was one of the best experiences ever, from scouting to the time laying hands on my ram. Memorable to say the least especially with just my nephew, grand nephew and I getting I done. So quick a run down… ram was aged at 8, but with the gnarly bases G&F said he could be 9+ but couldn’t tell for sure. Ram scored 174. One circumference landed in the bad spot in his horn which kept him from scoring higher but that just adds great character to the ram. His good side measures 91”. Oh in the last pic with grand nephew, the road that goes through the saddle, that saddle is where I shot from Brian

1 pointBobcat I took this weekend.Didn't call it. Spotted it in the open while out looking for a place to make a stand. Shot it at 187 yards. Would have preferred to call it in but couldn't pass up the opportunity. Spotted it from the location in the second picture. Second one I've taken this year. The first one was called in.

1 pointMy nephew 16 years old, has been anxious to hunt since he was 10. He’s nonresident as my sister, his mom, moved from Tucson to the northwest about 20 years ago. Anyway she finally agreed based on hunt dates, school and such to let him put in for deer in az. He drew a tag! Everyone’s excited, but, a few weeks before the hunt my sister says she may not let him go due to grades. “We” myself, my uncle and my brother are disappointed in this information of course, but we understand. I told my sister if he’s not gonna make the hunt he needs to turn his tag back in so another jr can use it. My nephew worked hard studied took tests and quizzes and brought his grades all up to A’s and B’s! Green light! Day one windy as shoot. We find deer but the only bucks ( two spikes) were way off and disappeared quickly. day two rainy in the am. We work our way to a good spot after waiting for the rain to pass by mostly. We found a big fork not long after getting to our spot. My mindset was conditions are awesome let’s let things start moving. My nephew (rooster) of course was ready to stalk. So we stalked, a fork that was 550 yards was now at 217. Roosters on a boulder and steady but the buck was mostly behind a thick ocatilla. I tell him don’t shoot through that ocatilla but if you have a shot take it. He says “I’m not comfortable with this shot”. I say ok just wait. Well buck takes a few steps and is gone. Coues deer for ya. Day three head out, find a good spot, after a short time other hunters come in to the end of the canyon we’re glassing. A half our or so goes by and they move on. I’m thinking they might push something to us so we watch and wait but nothing comes. We decide to move as well. While we’re moving, we hear a shot. Those other hunters kill one. We watch for a bit as they find their kill as well as looking for something that might be heading our way. After what we felt was long enough we decided it’s time to get to our next spot. After a few minutes we glass a buck, close, bedded in the shade. We tell rooster sneak up and get on that boulder. He does, just in time! The buck we glassed, along with another smaller buck that we didn’t see, got up and started moving out. They paused for just a second and the shot rang out. Perfect shot placement put him down in his tracks at 125 yards. I was so impressed and to be honest relieved that we didn’t have to track a wounded deer.

1 pointWhy put his watermark on it and pretend like he had anything to do with the hunt? Don't carry water for someone pulling the wool over everyone's eyes.

1 pointWhat is accidental about putting a watermark on a deer you were not involved with? There's no way that can be an accident.

1 pointHunter helped me out last night with brakes and rotors. Very knowledgeable and nice. That snap on scanner was bad a$$. Thanks!

1 pointMy guy, I'm surprised you're defending him. Its one thing to post a nice buck. It's another to try and take credit for it, which he obviously was.
-
1 pointHonest mistake, when he says how hard they hunted him on the last day?
-
1 pointTough to compete huh? Even tougher for those of us that get licensed and insured. 🙄
-
1 pointHe apologized cuz he got caught, not cuz he was actually sorry?
-
1 pointSo he gets random pics and adds his logo and posts them? Clients or not? I could have a heck of a trophy wall on a webpage if I posted every random pic someone sent me... Solid response that he apologized and removed it though.

1 pointCongratulations on a great and unique buck! However, you are likely mistaken about it having ever been "ranked the 13th largest" non-typical. If your handle is your name, there is not a deer entered in the current edition with the last name Swenson anywhere near that score in the typical or non-typical section. If you never entered it, it was never "ranked" at any position and the score was never an official score. Also, the minimum for entry to the "rifle" record book for Arizona NT Coues' deer had always been 115, even back in the 1990 edition of the book when yours was taken, and there were more than 13 entries at that time that exceeded the 115 minimum. So, your buck would not have qualified for entry to the record book, although it would have been very close if that were its actual score as measured by an official measurer and it was accepted when you entered it. Just a few years ago, they lowered the minimum down to 107 and only one buck under 115 has been entered since the minimum was lowered. If your buck does actually score above 107, you should have it officially scored and enter it. If you don't, there is really no point in knowing where it "would" rank, if it was officially scored, and if it was officially entered and it was officially accepted at that score. 1 pointWe just had 15 guys travel in from Kone to do an outage and they have branch offices everywhere. So yeah they travel. If that’s a before and after picture they ran that block into the sheaves nest and it’s jammed in there.
