I was always under the impression that your hunting permit is the permit to access state trust legally.

I didn't see the Facebook response but here is what I sent off if anyone would like to use as a quick template: Dear Arizona Game and Fish Department, I am writing to express my concerns regarding the recent changes in hunting regulations for Unit 3A, specifically the modification of boundary descriptions that affect elk and antelope hunts. The decision to convert a significant portion of Unit 3A to over-the-counter (OTC) tags, influenced by local rancher requests, has raised serious issues related to the privatization and commercialization of hunting in this area. I understand that the Elkins ranch has entered into an exclusive access agreement with an outfitter, who is now selling OTC hunts at a high cost. This arrangement not only goes against the principles of the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation, which emphasizes public access to wildlife resources, but also limits opportunities for average hunters who cannot afford such high fees. The spirit of fair chase and equal opportunity, which are core to our hunting heritage, are being compromised. It is disheartening to see a public resource being utilized for private gain, especially when it restricts access for the broader hunting community. I urge the AZGFD to reconsider these changes and close elk hunting in the Zeniff hunt area until a fair and equitable public access agreement is established by the Elkins ranch. Such a measure would align with the Department’s commitment to managing wildlife resources in a manner that benefits all Arizonans and preserves our hunting traditions for future generations. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response and the actions that will be taken to address these concerns. Sincerely,

Don't know 34a, but 30b, and 35a have plenty of 2wd access. I just drove middlemarch pass in 30b a couple weeks ago and I was surprised just how much access there was for a unit known for little access. Never had to use 4x4. Also, you would also be surprised how versatile a 2wd can be with a locker in the rear and a little added weight. Add a winch in the front and you are almost unstoppable.

Correction, they are closer to canello. Basically between canello and parker canyon lake. Where cimmaron road comes out and meets the road that goes down to the lake there's a valley down on the west side with private ranches, it's right in there. Very nice area.

Can someone give me a simple explanation of what state trust land means exactly ? I recently ran into a sign claiming it was state trust land and required a permit? Also, I called Elkins last winter at Christmas time and asked permission to go coyote calling on his ranch! He gave me permission! I’ve done many carpentry jobs for him through the years! Sounds like im gonna have to go give him a visit and see what’s going on! I’ve been on both sides of the ranching/ farming side of the fence! I hate what has happened in unit 10 and certainly wouldn’t want that kind of nonsense in my backyard!

That makes sense. We kept all the legs. I was going to have my wife braise them or something and slow cook them for soup.

2 RV Parks in Patagonia. I stayed Patagonia RV Park: 520-400-3857. It is hard to find spaces that are not being used by miners in working up Harshaw Rd. There is also Spirit Tree Inn up Harshaw Rd.

Please add Stavxros to the list. New member of the forum, but had good communication and was a super nice guy. Drove out of his way to meet me on a busy work day.

My son drew the late youth hunt in 33. Opening day was the Friday after Thanksgiving. We made a family plan to head down Wednesday, picking up our daughter up at UofA, and have a family camping trip followed by a deer hunt. Our good friend, Christian, drove down Thursday night to help out. He's like a little brother to me and a great mentor/role model for Jacob. Our daughter even asked me to throw her hunting gear in so she could help glass Friday before heading back to UofA to study Saturday. We glassed up a couple dozen does, a handful of spikes and forks, and a few 70s bucks Friday. We got chased out by rain Saturday morning, right as we found a buck Jacob liked. We watched the bucks bed down, so we went back to camp to wait out the storm. The rain let up a few hours later and we were back out glassing, quickly relocating the bucks from Saturday morning. I was sore from a steep, rugged hike the day before, so Jacob and Christian put a plan in place to stalk up into the steep area they were and I stayed back to glass and talk them in. Something in the canyon bottom spooked the deer as they were setting up and two deer turned into about 9 running all over. By the time they settled down, the objective buck was nowhere to be seen; however, this young fork presented a perfect broadside shot at 248 yards. As was told to me, Jacob said "I didn't hike all they up this $h!t to not shoot something!" Good for him! He ended up packing it all the way down the ridge and up and down the next three ridges. He earned every bit of this young buck, but now he says he's holding out for 80s or bigger moving forward. Again, good for him! 248 yards is officially his shortest shot at a non-javelina or turkey game animal. I'm super proud of his determination and grit.

The trip went well. We had HiLo Outfitters for 2 days and we got all 9 birds. It was a fun trip. I also bagged a duck off a desert waterhole, so I add 2 new species to my list of animals successfully hunted.

Those are beautiful pistols, but the best part of your post is "...sell my mother's single action guns..." 👍 Eddie
