Arrived Tuesday , got set up , and then the rains came. Quite the downpour , some moisture inside as well. Wednesday morning sunshine . Coyotes were heard frequently and on a morning sit, 5 went by me about 20 ft away. The last one stopped to look at me. Sorry I didn’t get a pic. Ran into a herd (?) of coatimundi, 20 plus. Was surprised that the east side of 4186 burnt again. Had not known of a wild fire there this summer. F 35 flying , A10’s and border patrol helicopters. Spectacular moon rise and sun sets. Always a treat and pleasure to watch . Does were everywhere. Did not see a Buck until day 5 of my 6 days to hunt. 8:45 , he is walking down a draw and put him down at 174yds. As I watch him drop, I see a much larger /wider Buck go back up the mountain. Lesson learned, maybe glass behind the 1st Buck you see. My Buck was a 3 pt with a kicker on the right side on front side of brow tine. Drug him down the wash , about 3 hours back to camp and butcher up. I love this unit with or without a harvest. BTW, that is my happy , excited look.

After a 3 year Hiatus of not drawing general hunts I typically would draw almost every year, I finally got to chase desert bucks with my rifle again. I drew a unit I have only stepped foot into a few times; and never personally hunted for myself, so I knew it would be a challenge trying to pick apart areas to focus my time on. I had help from some buddies who knew the unit but the dry conditions proved to be challenging, where a lot of young bucks would show themselves in the first few days along with dozens of predators. After day 2 I was given some info/tips and with a game plan in mind, I made the drive into some new country. Right before day light of day 3, I spotted this buck bedded down a few hundred yards away. I had my partner keep eyes on him while I scanned the rest of the what we could see from the glassing point quickly and to wait for the sun to pop out to get a better look. After waiting a bit,I decided he was good enough to wrap my tag around and laid down at 384 yards to take my shot. First shot was a touch high on him and he jumped up confused/hurt and I quickly chambered another round and he had moved about 10 yards from his bed before the second shot connected and put him down. It was a quick morning but I am extremely happy with him and how it all played out. Venturing into new country is always an adventure in itself but having a good network of friends willing to help out, ultimately made me successful and for that I am forever grateful. Best of luck to everyone the rest of the year!

Got out for the opener on Friday. The morning was good with a few smaller bucks found. All day long I kept watching some does get up and reposition in the little draw next to me. I told my buddy that I was gonna sneak up to the edge and peak in the bottom to see if anything else was in there. I even joked and said "I am going to leave my gun here just to make sure there is a big buck in there." Snuck up to the edge and found the bedded does again then looked down to the right about 250 yds and found this guy up on his feet at 3pm. I snuck out, ran back and grabbed the gun. My buddy came up with me and spotted for the shot. One shot, buck down. We hunted the next few days and were able to fill his tag too. Another great trip with a great friend!

I have a Marlin 7000 22 lr, it comes with 1 7 round and 1 10 round magazine. The bluing is in excellent condition and so is the stock. It comes with Warne 1 inch scope mounts. $175 We are selling it since it only gets shot about once every 14 years.

My wife and I got tags together this year for the same hunt for the first time. We were real excited for this hunt, more than usual. Opening day I spotted her buck 2100 yards out and figured he was a mid 80’s buck. We kept an eye on him every 5 minutes to see where he beds down. While keeping tabs on him we saw 10 other bucks but nothing worth chasing after. Once her buck bedded down under a tree, we marked the spot and started the stalk. We snuck into 330 yards and the rest is history. The buck had a bigger body than we thought and scored right at 90. We had a long pack-out back to the ranger and feeling the aches and soreness today. Over the next few days we looked over 30 bucks or so. I was looking for a 4+ year old buck (secretly trying to beat my wifes buck!) I didn’t have any luck. Monday morning came and I spotted a big 2x2 buck that we have seen maybe 8 times and never gave chase to him. He bedded down during grey light and the wife and I took off. We snuck into 380 yards and waited about an hour for him to stand up and the hunt was done. My buddy Christian showed up to help out with the morning Monday hunt, he carried out some weight which was nice! Thanks amigo! Overall deer movement was phenomenal even with the full moon. The freezer is full with our bucks and my sons junior buck. We’ll definitely put in together again next year.

Thanks to all that offered some pointers. Saw tons of deer just nothing with size so when this guy stepped out it was a no brainer. My buddies 76 year old dad made a great shot at 140 yards and ol boy was piled up. Good luck and shoot strait to everyone with hunts still coming up.

Just for the fun of chasing pigs and that's about it. 2 youngest boys have tags end of month. Thought it would be fun for them chasing subsonic and suppressed.

Ya Well we went down south finally and got him a coues deer ..... I haven't done a write up in a while but I decided to this time. Well with all of my son's obligations this year for school and sports we were having a hard time figuring out what days, if any we were going to be able to hunt. We planned out to hunt Saturday and Sunday only at first, he is a senior this year but had college classes he couldn't miss on Friday. He also had a cross country event Friday evening that he could not miss, he is the team captain. Right before we left, he got permission from his college teacher that he could actually miss a couple days and he would let Curtis make it up. Day 1 We got there Saturday morning and went straight to hunting, we didn't even set up camp yet.... we found plenty of doe in the area we wanted to start focusing on. Same in the evening. Day 2 We moved to our second area the next day and we saw a bunch more doe until last light. We saw two deer top over the ridge towards us. It was so dark I barely put horns on one of them. Day 3 So ... the next morning rolled around and nothing but does in the morning again. Mid-day my boy said dad I need to get a workout in since I am missing two practices( he runs at the state meet this Saturday) ..so we go back to camp and he goes for a 5 mile run up and down the road by camp ( I kept thinking it would be funny if border patrol was watching him run back and forth and to be able to hear them talk about him). Yes he is crazy and dedicated to his sports and everything he does. We get back out that evening and were able to relocate the same two deer. They were both bucks almost identical in size, No difference that I could tell... Curtis looks him over and says he likes the one on the left. I get him ranged while he gets prone on my pack and gets set up and comfortable. He is able to get on him in the scope and said he is ready. He sent a shoot once the buck stopped to graze. Then dropped the buck right there. We still had a little bit of light to get to him, which was of course at the very top of the mountain. We got to him before dark, but had to do all of the work in the dark and hike out and down in the dark. My son said the buck met his expectations for the time restraints we had on this trip. We are pleased and glad we were able to get him his first coues deer. Sorry for brags, but I'm so proud of the young man he is becoming and the memories we have able to make together. Thanks to everyone over the years and the support from everyone along the way.

Thanks! First animal I've ever actually harvested. Cow Tag was in Unit 1. First day there wasn't a lot of action. Woke up in the woods to it being a balmy 8 degrees 😂. Met a few local coyote hunters and got some decent tips, so decided to move camp. Day 2 we glassed mostly pronghorn and a ram in the morning. Noon came around and got hit with a wind advisory for the rest of the day. We had gusts up to 50 mph, so not very advantageous for glassing. Saw a few dozen Elk about 800 yards from camp and said "F It", and decided to make a play to hopefully somewhat salvage the day. I got onto a small of herd of about 6-8 Cows with a Bull. 1 Cow was hanging back from the group and busted me (first time I'd heard an Elk bark) about 140 yards away behind a large tree. Final day out, my buddy glassed another herd in a different set of woods from camp. Decided to mosey on into the woods and see what we could make happen. I shot this one at about 163 yards. After being skunked for 3 years, I was ecstatic to be able to punch this tag.

Well today is the last day of our hunt here in Wyoming. Missed a whitetail doe a couple nights ago, and had the opportunity at a muley buck and whitetail buck on public, but we didn't have a buck tag. Spent much of the mid-day hours fishing and having fun. I always try and keep it fun with my son and not burn him out. Today after fishing, we were driving back into the ranch we stay at and saw one lone yearling doe on the property. We were able to sneak around the horse barn without her seeing us and made a 100 yard shot. 3 for 3 on antelope tags this year.

This is a GREAT deal! Very nice rod, 60# is about perfect but can push it to 80# in my experience. If I didn't already have one I would certainly buy it. I caught the fish in my profile with it. Do you happen to have the 84XH too?

My best friend shot a nice buck this morning. We mesured him to be 103 5/8. Yesterday he had 2 bucks come in 10 min. after getting in his stand. They were of another species and didn't have shot. He thought to himself I have Oct. whitetail tag and I'm not going to shoot a fork Mulie. Next morn. He gets in the stand and 50 mins. later while glassing across the canyon he hears rocks rolling and this deer comes up over the berm at 30 yrds. goes behind a tree allowing him to draw , the deer takes his last drink and dies in the water. I'm waiting for my son to download pictures to send to Amanda. I hope you all enjoy. We have been doing this for a long time and it finally paid off. I'm so proud of him. Next big bulls in the rut.
