Conservation groups have been working diligently with the Apache National Forest to remove the feral livestock that has been inundating much of the forest. Sadly, the horse advocates have been working just as hard to stop the removal of said livestock. Photos by the contractor show the advocates opening locked gates to let captured horses free, cutting fences and causing havoc with the contractor. Over the past 14 months the contractor has removed over 350 horses and now has financing to remove even more. Conservation groups in Arizona have contributed over $100,000 to remove the remainder of these horses. Part of the issue is that the horse advocates refuse to accept science and biology as well as a Federal judgement that these horses are "stray", feral, or just plain livestock. I am writing this only to inform those who do not have the time or inclination to follow the drama. Many of us will be elk hunting this fall and we need to be aware of who our "Friends" are and those who only care about horses. It should be noted that the Aspen Lodge in Alpine is the hub of the Alpine Wild horse advocacy. The recent California transplants that purchased the Alpine Lodge have made the determination that these horses should be free and unencumbered by science. Where you spend your money this fall matters. If you are a horse advocate, spend your $$ at the Aspen Lodge. If you want a forest that has only natural wildlife..... then think twice about where you spend your $$. Once the Apache has all horses removed, the Sitgreaves Forest is next for a massive reduction of the invasive horses that came over from the Rodeo Chedeski fire. The White Mountain Apache Tribe has accepted back their cattle that strayed over into the forest, but politely declined to accept horses. The future of hunting units across Arizona need the support of all sportsmen to make sure biology and science rule how wildlife is handled.... and livestock have no place in the forests.

Why capture them instead of just disposing of them? They don’t belong on the land and they can’t escape if they’re dead…

If you are 45 years or older you need to get checked every year. Both the DRE (AKA bend over, Digital Rectal Exam) with the glove by your Doc and have blood drawn and have the PSA (Prostrate-Specific Antigen) test done. Especially if you have occasional trouble peeing or get a sharp pain deep up in the butt sometimes. Caught early it can be treated by a lot of ways including removal, and a bunch of different types of radiation. If it goes unchecked eventually it will burst out of the prostrate into the lymph nodes, pelvic and spine bones, bladder, lungs and brain. It's not "The Good Cancer" or "Slow Growing". People do die from it all the time. 1 in 8 men will get it.

Hey all, I run a small contracting business focused on residential and commercial remodels, additions, and custom carpentry work like gazebos and patio covers. We're looking to expand, posting here in case you know someone who might be interested. Flexible work is possible at entry level and weekends vs weekdays is flexible as well across all experience levels; great for outdoorsmen. Pay: $18/hr - $50/hr, part or full-time. Lower End (Apprenticeship/labor/entry level): Flexible hours. Regular pay increases after trial period and upskilling No experience necessary, just a willingness to learn. Great for someone looking to start in construction or learn about the industry Hard worker Higher End (Seasoned pros): Experienced carpenters/remodelers with their own (basic) tools Strong references. Independent workers. Most of our projects are in North/Central Phoenix and Scottsdale, mainly north of the 10 and within the 101 loop. Will need their own transportation. If you know anyone interested, feel free to pass them along. Thank you.

My boy and I have been going out before school the past couple days. Yesterday I asked if he wanted to try and shoot one and he didn't. Today, he got brave and decided to shoot the 12 gauge. He didn't mind it so we put our efforts into stalking a bird in a tree. He shot it, she retrieved it, and I couldn't be more proud of them both!

The biggest plus is as a NR with a lifetime license you aren't subject to the 10% cap put on other NR.

Im at my sisters in So Cal all week, no pics. But we had 3 racks of ribs using 3,2,1 method on smoker, dozen burgers and dogs, and few gallons of icecream, oh and more than a few beers. All with 75 degrees and great weather and nothing but swimming, hot tub, beers and food!!!!!

If you draw a tag in either one of those units, you won't have a problem finding a turkey. If you draw the 35A hunt I would participate in the survey. It's usually a couple weeks before the hunt.

I have to say with candid honesty, I’ve taken a break from this forum due to the cat like retorts between members. I am glad I had a couple minutes during a burrito break and chose the Elk Hunting chapter to flick through, finding your recent post success. It was refreshing, funny, and a good read. Congrats on a hot weather elk hunt! Especially DIY. Nicely done! Thank you for sharing, with pics too!
