We were experiencing a lot of vandalism at my mine. We had advertised for a public event out there on local radio stations encouraging people to "follow the signs." Evening before the event, the signs were all cut down. So I put cameras out watching signs and the front gate. Never caught the trouble maker, save this one babe near the front gates. (Ignore the date stamps, pics about 11 months old)

Saw tons of antelope today but this one made the mistake of coming into my decoy at 30 yards! Added story! Was in a valley just north and way of the highway 82/83 intersection. Saw probably 50+lope running in a circle around the valley. They would let me get to about 70 yards and then push the does off. About 10:00 in the morning I moved to one of the few trees to get out of the sun and put up my decoy. I saw this buck and a doe about 200 yards up the hill running towards another hunter at the top of the hill. The doe spooked and ran and this guy turned, saw my decoy and slowly made his way to me. Took about 30 min to cover those 200 yards. He stopped at 60 and started to go the other way so I drew. At that point he started to come back again so I let down. He went down into the wash and popped up behind my decoy at 30 yards. Two steps to the left and I had a solid quartering towards shot. Put it in right in front of the shoulder and came out the opposite hind quarter. Took out lung, liver and femoral. He ran about 20 yards and went down. Was a ton of fun.

For the first time in my adult life, I purposely took the opener off. Took my boy and my pup out. Both had a blast. Flying was a little slow, but we had a great day.

I too am loving the 20g. It is a Franchi Affinity 3 semi-auto. So light and forgiving. Got my limit, my son got 7 and the other 3 got 14 between the 3 of them. Today the doves were flying from the east, but 70% were in the next atmosphere. Couldn’t believe how high they were flying. Love the shoulder recoil therapy!!!!

Good advice, bro. I took piano lessons from age 10-17, played about daily following 10 years, enjoyed the classics. I'm between pianos momentarily but I'll probably get this one. Started banjo about 10 months ago and I love it but the arthritis in my hands make my thumb digits feel disconnected. Oh well, a constant reminder I'm no kid anymore.

The 40 units are still closed and won't open until Dec. While there are pockets of rutting towards the first of the year most areas I hunt don't get fired up until around the 10th of January and are hot for a couple of weeks. With last year being a wet year 42 still lost over a week from previous years. I will bet that it never sees the 10th of January in a dry year. Same for 44A. 39 and 41 might make it until the 3rd week in Jan. I would rather lose the Dec portion of the hunts and keep Jan. open longer but that likely isn't going to happen

It's all a difference of a opinion. We all utilized cameras different. When its 115 degrees down here in the desert, I don't have motivation to go out and look around the waterholes for animals. When we could use cameras, I had a reason to go out in the heat and atleast see what was in the area then I used October to "scout" and find where they were actually hanging out then ready to go for the season. There is no need to go walking around in August/September when its that hot and risk jumping or pushing deer causing them to run and over heat just so I could see them. I miss the cameras not only for deer but I saw so much cool desert life with cameras. It is awesome to see the desert come alive at night.

I don’t understand how baiting is illegal but sitting over water is allowed. Doesn’t seem to be much difference between them. This change would definitely drive success rates down and help with quotas.

Cameras were fun and a great reason to get out in the woods even in units we weren’t hunting. It made us want to go out and check them. Without them i don’t have much of a reason to go out there without tags to scout with. It wasn’t just about scouting, it was just good old fashioned fun. And yes we’d fix stuff pretty often as well, the best we could.

You are correct. I certainly could have gone up to see if the tank was holding water.. However, the fact of the matter is, me being able to place a camera would have resulted in me finding the problem. I didn't go because of the ban so the problem wasn't discovered.

October hunt, my wife and pops were able to tag out on a pair of decent bucks. Little more hunting pressure this year than usual and had to hike in a bit farther to locate the bucks. Nov hunt, my buddy smoked this great buck that did a head dive into some boulders, we were able to recover the broken tine and had a cool, long pack out in the dark. Junior hunt- my son had his first big game tag for deer and javelina. He had an away basketball game in Nogales, after his game I picked him up and we were off to camp. We completed 9 failed stalks on Friday-Sunday and was finally able to get within range of this buck. After some careful shooting and assistance from my dad and Christian who were spotting from the distance, we were able to knock him down. That evening we decided to go out look for javelina (haven't seen any yet). At last light, Christian glassed up a herd far out. We made plans for the morning and they were up and feeding in the grey light. A short stalk later he was able to put his first javelina down. Thanksgiving hunt- my buddy and I found a whole bunch of deer, a lot of tiny ones. Finally Sunday morning we located his buck way up in the mountains. A gruesome hike up a steep ridge, he was able to dump 2 rounds into the chest. I'm glad that pack out was all down hill and in the flats.
