3 pointsReturned this morning from our annual 1.5 day on the Pacifica with almost a limit of BF. Mixed bag of 25-70. We had to choose between going south for Dodo's, YF and BF, which have been hit or miss, or going NW for BF only. We chose BF only. Weather was great and before Noon was maybe too nice. No luck at 5AM on jigs but the jigs and sinker rigs were picking off a fish or 2 on in the 30-70 range beginning at daybreak and throughout the day.. Lots of nada stops. About 3:30 we moved off the bigger fish to go find catchable fish. (About a 30 minute move) The 1st stop lasted about 2 hours with up to 10 rods bent at once using both flyline and sinker rigs. Smaller grade but lots of fun. They would not touch 40# line so 30# line on the spinner was the weapon of choice. That baitrunner reel screaming when they first hit it is still a rush. Made a few stops in the dark and 2 of them produced 2 fish each in the 60-70# range from 300-400'. Fish up to 200 are there, we just didn't find any that wanted to play. A big Mako came to collect some taxes but left shortly after taking the tail off of one nice fish.. (Tuna come to the boat so much easier when they have no tail)

2 pointsA little slow this year but brought a few home. Water temps were low and captain was having tough time finding warm currents. Really big water first day, half the boat was yacking. Almost all blue and yellow fin. Used spin set up this year and had a blast on that.

1 pointLittle late on seeing this thread. I put a 24" proof barrel on a Tikka action and I'm getting slightly less speed than this with Hornady 180 match ammo. 2848 avg on the Labrador. About 30 fps more from precision hunter 175s. This is after 130 rounds. A FAR cry from the 2975 and 3000fps Hornady claims they got from a 24" test barrel! I just got some ADG brass with hopes of better performance with hand loads. Anyone on the fence on the caliber expecting 3000fps or more might want to wait till more real world #s are proven. I really love the new rifle ...... just love it more when I'm not looking at the chrono 😀

1 pointThey were roasting Hatch Chili's in the local Fry's so we bought a couple sacks They said they'd been there for a month and this was their last day. Try Anasazi beans. No soaking and less tooting.

1 pointI put them on the propane grill on high , but also take a hand torch and hit the spots that aren’t blistering enough for my liking. It really speeds up the process.

1 pointHello, I just wanted to give an update. I tried several combinations of powder and bullets and I finally settled on 168 gr Berger VLD hunting bullets with Varget powder. I played with the seating depth and made them a little longer based on my free bore jump length. The pic is a 10 shot group and the squares are inch squares from 100 yards. Most of the shots are touching and the velocity is 2625fps. I found a winner. I am very happy with this considering i am a novice at reloading. What do you all think? Thanks! Chad

1 pointGrill for me, then into a plastic bag for five minutes. I'll be doing some this morning to make chili that will cook most of the day. Antelope and elk. I usually never add beans but soaked some pintos overnight and just added them so some water to slowly heat up with salt, tumeric, ground garlic and black pepper.

1 pointI missed responding to you, sorry about that. It was a ranch tag. This is one of those situations where we had to pay a "guide" but in reality the "guide" only allowed us access to the property. He showed up with 10x42's and cowboy boots and told me to shoot the 1st 70" buck we saw. He was quite surprised when we glassed up and passed a bunch of bucks after looking them over in the spotting scope. I think he was used to driving around and letting the hunters shoot the 1st buck they saw. So I have some time so I'll update with the story. My friend Mike and I glassed this buck up almost 2 miles away the first morning and knew he was good buck that we needed to look closer at. We spent half the day driving/walking the ranch and looking over as many bucks as we could. This buck lived in a giant pasture with no stalkable terrain or trees and he was very spooky. We saw him bed upon this bench which we figured was 500 yards from the top of a hill. Once we got around on him we finally picked him up and he was 800+ yards away and had us picked off. He took off and ran about 2 miles. We jumped in the vehicles and worked our way around to the other side of the ranch trying to put a plan together. Again we picked out a low hill that we could work around and hopefully get into shooting range. After climbing up and slowly peeking over we came to realize he was about 1500 yards away still. Over the course of the rest of the day he slowly worked his way back up to the hill/bench that we had jumped him from. The next morning we went in slow and couldn't pick him up at all. after about 2 hours as we were driving to the other side of the ranch he came out of the bottom of the draw and ran almost a mile and a half before he even slowed down. He again went right up on top of that wide open pasture with no way to get within 800 yards. We decided to try a new tactic and came from another direction. This time we made it to about 600 yards before any of us had picked him up and again he had already picked us off and took off to the same location as before almost 2 miles away but in the same pasture. I decided that I was going to sneak into where he had bedded and spend the rest of the day there in hopes that he would want to come back to that spot like he had 2 or 3 other times. Mike and the "guide" took off and tried to circle around and get into a position if they could. From about 8am to 4 or 5pm I stayed in this open pasture laying down on my back, sitting up and laying back down, waiting for this buck to work his way up to me. He would walk a few steps and keep looking up toward me, feed and keep working his way toward me. It took him almost 9hours to get to me. At about 400 yards he didn't like something and he started to move off in another direction. I estimated the distance, (couldn't get a good range with how flat it was with landmarks) whistled and as he slightly turned toward me I shot him. I hit him just a touch back, watched him bed worked my way up to him and shot him one more time as he stood up. He was one of the spookiest goats I've chased or hunted and I was glad to put him on the ground. Exit

1 pointThe Rifle is a model 94 Winchester in 25/35. This was the first rifle that my grandfather bought and the only one he ever had. He bought the rifle in the Prescott area, this deer was also killed with this rifle in the Prescott area. Pretty cool to have both of them, I can only imagine the miles that were walked carrying this rifle. I even have some of the original boxes of ammo.
