Do it yourself. Don't trust the gun stores because they also probably don't do a good job setting eye relief for YOU. I don't care how eye relief is set for the counter guy at the gun store. It needs to be right for me. The wheeler torque wrench kit with lapping bars is very nice to have along with that good level set posted above. I use them regularly and they are worth every penny. Don't use 3 year old lock tight either. Buy a new tube fairly regularly to help keep it fresh. I know when I was in the gun stores working years ago, we did the best job we knew how, but none of us was really that good. We eyeballed scopes being level and didn't use a torque wrench... You can bore sight the rifle at the range yourself for almost all rifles. Google it. Basically you put the rifle in sandbags or rest and aim it at a target looking thru the bore. Then move the scope to the center of that target without moving the rifle. Start with the target at 25 or 50 yards. Then move out.

Same I had an old login from 07 or 08 when a family member talked me into joining. Forgot my login and then I just lurked for years as a quest until I finally gave in and just made a new one.

Can't beat a half day trip to get your feet wet so to speak. Those operations all cater to the beginners and kids. If the fish cooperate you guys will have a blast. Generally pretty good fishing through September at least. Have fun! I like the Daily Double. Only 35 anglers max. If you can find a local 3/4 on the Point Loma even better. It's even smaller at 18 anglers tops I think. New Seaforth out of Seaforth Landing is also a solid operation. Can't go wrong either way.

Cost wasn't bad for mine. It was $70 for the 1/2 day trip, $19 for a 1 day CA license, and something like $14 for a rental rod with some weights and hooks. The bait was provided on the boat so you can pretty much just show up and go fishing. The crew was also super helpful showing you how to bait up and what techniques to use. Not sure about the kid friendly part, but I'd imagine a trip that was less crowded would be better for someone new to fishing on these type boats. It's definitely a fun trip and kind of addicting... I'm already trying to figure out a plan to go back again 😊

You can rent tackle at the respective landing. There is threads on bloodydecks about kid friendly etc...give a search ... https://www.bdoutdoors.com/forums/forum/fishing-chit-chat/ A trip to the islands for calico bass, yellowtail and even some bft/yft. Look up the landings, each had own pricing etc. Fishermans, pointloma, h&m are all together and parking sucks and is like 12 bucks per day. Seaforth landing near sea world is free and big lot. Cost is 70 to 150 per pers.

Bartlett is an enemy of mine. I flathead a lot and do pretty good everywhere else but Bartlett always kicks my butt. It is really high this year and i think bank fishing would be really tough will all the submerged trees and brush

Hi, this thread has got me curious. My 12 year old is obsessed with fishing in general right now and we have several trips already planned to San Diego in August and October (not fishing related). I've never been fishing outside of Arizona, any recommendations on a kid friendly half day trip out of San Diego? Success/action is probably more important than type of fish. What should I expect something like this to cost? Lastly, do the charters take care of tackle, licenses, etc...? Thanks

Dad lost a 115” whitetail that way. Dog dug it up. Found it months later destroyed! This was early 90’s though, before scores were really popular with common folk.

I agree. Someone should buy my barreled action and put it in this chassis. 👍

To be fair, if I'm doing some crap in the backyard that smells like dead bodies in the desert my wife will likely have an opinion about it.

It’s been 16yrs this last April since I was introduced to CWT. I lived on here day and night before I retired. Met some really great people on here and made friend with so many. CWT stickers on most of my toys and worn out many coueswhitetail t-shirts. There isn’t enough time for me to thank Amanda, the friends I’ve made, all the help that made me a better hunter, and those I’ve never met in person but feel like we’ve been friends for years. Thanks again to all my CWT family members and friends. TJ

I have both of these, I bought the second set of levels because the plastic ones that come with the wheeler kit suck, just look up torque specs for your receiver, and rings , and a good gun vise is needed also

Honestly learn to do it and buy the few tools it takes. I don’t think I could trust another person making minimum wage to mount my optics. Really all you need is a bipod or gun vise, a level and a fat torque wrench.

I just saw a post where a fellow member is selling a 300 RUM barrel/action. Man attach this Chasis to that barrel/action and whala! You'll have great looking hunting rig!

I've done it the last three seasons. 1st season, I got a depredation tag, which I filled. Last year, I missed a bunch with my pistol, switched to my crossbow and found a bull that i really wanted but couldn't close the deal. This season I've helped four people fill their tags, including myself. It's a 3030.

Just a newbie on this forum, but have hunted southern Arizona for half a century. This year my wife, son and I will be hunting 35A for the first time in Nov. IMO you shouldnt worry about the illegal traffic...just hunt. If you hike the back country (hint: The Arizona Trails run through the unit, Canelo Hills to Parker canyon Lake and beyond), you wont have a problem and you WILL see some great Coues country. Good luck with your hunt.
