Today marks 20 years since I first became a member of this forum. So much has transpired since then with lifelong friends made, hunting skills matured, and knowledge increased. I can't believe how fast time flies!

I've been on here long enough to know to put in for a 4B hunt for Elk, and to not post pics of a kill under power lines!

Bulls are pretty much finished and look incredible. Feed was outstanding and just browning up in last few weeks. Rains seem to be starting and next week looks better. Calf recruitment is outstanding and elk are fat and happy! Best of luck on your hunt 👊

I have four beautiful German shorthair Pointer males ready for their forever home. Pups were born June 1rst and will be ready to go August 1rst. They will have their first round of shots and dewormer. Litter will be AKC registered if you want to register your own pup. Only asking 150$ to cover some of the vet bills and feed, I’m more concerned that they go to good homes preferably where they will be hunted. Call or text for more information or pictures. 928-963-0151.

Devin, I am sure I will be at the range Friday morning and probably be there for a couple hours. Come on out and you can use mine all you want. I am generally there by 7am at the latest.

Shooting a bull when it's 90 degrees outside is a lot of work. I've been hunting close to home for the most part with the occasional excursion to the greatest unit. Seeing more than a few elk. Until today, i had my standards pretty high and passed up maybe 20 spikes and small bulls. The area I liked themost got hit hard by a couple of professional hunters and you may have seen the bulls they took on ig or Facebook. That being said my normal area was devoid of elk the last couple of days. Mostly from insomnia and little from curiosity I went to the greatest unit ever this morning with determination of shooting the first branch bull I see. My dog gave me a guilt trip so he came along for the ride. We get to our spot maybe 30 minutes after first light and start walking. 10 or twenty minutes after leaving the truck I spot a calf and few other non bulls. We get closer and for the first time ever my dog is not growling at rocks he's picking fights with. Then all of sudden an antlered bull sticks his head out for a moment 65 yards away and disappears just as quickly. I wait maybe 10 minutes, maybe 20 minutes, honestly idk, he comes out broadside at 60 yards. I am shooting a 1948 marlin off handed that I picked up from cwt member. (Apologies I forgot your handle) My first shot, no reaction, second shot no reaction, chambering of third shot he starts to cantor off and I go full.john Wayne shooting everything he's in an opening. I go to where my first 3 shots were and I find blood instantly. The herd climbs the hill opposite of me without my target in tow. i start following the blood trail thinking hes within a few dozen yards. Not the case, at all , I follow and the blood trail actually gets bigger for once. After an unknown distance and time, I catch up. He stumbles up and I put two more rounds into him, one behind the shoulder and the ending shot in the neck. I think this is my 10th elk and first with a rifle.

That’s a lot slower than I would have expected!! If a guys gonna run a long action you could just as well have a 28 Nosler and get 400 fps more out of the same exact gun.

Not much to write, other than I sat on my glassing nob this morning, wondering why I even came hunting with this nasty winter storm on top of me. Windy, cold, and rainy. About 20 min into glassing I heard rocks crashing underneath me and this buck was running around the nob looking for a doe 100 yards beneath me. I went down the hill and to my surprise the buck was still there coming out of the cut he had no idea I was even there and gave me a 40 yard shot.I made a great shot and he expired within 40 yards. Being in the right place at the right time was the truth this morning and luck was on my side. I have never had a buck run up on me like that when I am glassing but I guess anything is possible during the rut!

Good news good news! 11 years ago I started this thread and I'm happy to say that it has come to an end. 2 weeks ago while buying some antlers off a man from Cottonwood I immediately recognized a set of muley antlers in the pile. I pulled them out and recognized them within seconds. I looked at him and said where in the heck did you get these?! He told me about buying them off a man from Camp Verde about 5 or 6 years ago. I then told him how they were stolen from my friends cabin and how the cabin had been vandalized so bad. I called my friend Ed immediately and told him that I had his Utah muley. He couldn't believe it!! Yesterday I met him and gave them back to him. Needless to say he was very very happy! Josh
