Shooting a bull when it's 90 degrees outside is a lot of work. I've been hunting close to home for the most part with the occasional excursion to the greatest unit. Seeing more than a few elk. Until today, i had my standards pretty high and passed up maybe 20 spikes and small bulls. The area I liked themost got hit hard by a couple of professional hunters and you may have seen the bulls they took on ig or Facebook. That being said my normal area was devoid of elk the last couple of days. Mostly from insomnia and little from curiosity I went to the greatest unit ever this morning with determination of shooting the first branch bull I see. My dog gave me a guilt trip so he came along for the ride. We get to our spot maybe 30 minutes after first light and start walking. 10 or twenty minutes after leaving the truck I spot a calf and few other non bulls. We get closer and for the first time ever my dog is not growling at rocks he's picking fights with. Then all of sudden an antlered bull sticks his head out for a moment 65 yards away and disappears just as quickly. I wait maybe 10 minutes, maybe 20 minutes, honestly idk, he comes out broadside at 60 yards. I am shooting a 1948 marlin off handed that I picked up from cwt member. (Apologies I forgot your handle) My first shot, no reaction, second shot no reaction, chambering of third shot he starts to cantor off and I go full.john Wayne shooting everything he's in an opening. I go to where my first 3 shots were and I find blood instantly. The herd climbs the hill opposite of me without my target in tow. i start following the blood trail thinking hes within a few dozen yards. Not the case, at all , I follow and the blood trail actually gets bigger for once. After an unknown distance and time, I catch up. He stumbles up and I put two more rounds into him, one behind the shoulder and the ending shot in the neck. I think this is my 10th elk and first with a rifle.

Whoa, how did I miss this? Yes Maynard .52 They came in .33, .50 and .52 The cartridge has no primer, just a flash hole. Paper caps like we had in cap guns as kids then later percussion caps were fitted.

Question.. is a straight AR pistol still legal if it does not have a stabilizing brace? I understand that one with a brace is only legal with the ATF stamp. My question is specifically referring to ar pistols bought with the intention of being a pistol and will not have a stabilizing brace. Meaning it can only have that weird little foam nub on the back of the buffer tube. Just looking for clarification here.

Time to expand the coup and garden. This thing doesn't get much action anymore. The trampoline thingy on the left side already went to the dump. The big disc thing fabric needs replaced but everything else is good to go. The sleeves which cover the chains are breaking down but still work like supposed to. Figured I offer here before giving it away on CL or taking to the dump.

Did a quick one tonight after it cooled off. Threw a couple flatirons on the traeger and let them get a little smokey flavor, then finished to a medium rare to medium on the Blackstone. My wife did sauteed squash, zucchini and onion inside. Turned out great for a quick easy meal.

Are you looking for a magnum or standard bolt face caliber? Also, in a previous post on this topic, you mentioned not wanting to pay 'full retail'. Could you give us CWT members some idea as to what you feel is 'full retail' vs. price range you would find reasonable for a used rifle?

I remember when he won that boat. RIP Harold Chi Chi Chavez. He was a outstanding guy and one of the best jack pot fisherman at Roosevelt ever. Also one heck of a Hunter. His grand son is my neighbor up here. Good luck with the sell, that boat has won a lot of money.

Shooter support stopped a long time ago but the app still works when you put your bullet data in manually.

Just an FYI I bought Shooter and a Strelok clone called, Chairgun Elite +. I’ll try both see which I like. So far after messing with both all morning the Chairgun is the one I’d use if I had to pick. But I will continue to use both. I ran exact same dope charts on both and they were both putting out exact same data. Chairgun has updated ammo and scope reticles and large libraries of both. Shooter seems like it hasn’t been updated in years. Anyone looking for a Strelok substitute should check out Chairgun

Early dinner tonight. New York strip cooked in cast iron with ghee, whole garlic gloves and sprigs of fresh rosemary. Fat end cap cooked first to render, with rest on hot cast iron to build crust, basted throughout. Asparagus then quickly flashed in cast iron with all the flavors. Made a worcheshire mushroom reduction sauce over steak!

Collards, sausage, smoked turkey, onion, garlic, ham hocks, black-eyed peas. Forgot to buy chicken stock. 4-6 hours to prepare and another 3-5 to cook but.I will get 4-5 meals out of it and it gets better everytime I reheat it.

I was in your shoes a few months ago… started butchering goats, wanted more space for game and game meat processing. Looked on craigslist, offerup, etc for used commercial equipment. I ended up building my walk-in a few months ago, and it only took about 2 weeks.... Highly recommend building one as you can tailor it to your needs. I just got an email today from CoolBot that they want to feature my cooler in their blog. Wasn't expecting that lol. Mine will get down to 34 deg in less than 5 minutes. Can control temp on smartphone... connects to home wifi and will give you alarm notification on your phone if there is a temp swing outside your set range.
