I just got back from Soldotna doing the same fishing trip. Had a blast. Weather was perfect, I think the highest temp we saw was like 74 degrees. We just packed layers and made sure we had some sort of rain gear. I honestly just wore jeans and a long sleeve shirt with my kings jacket for the early mornings on the river. I packed a back pack with an extra hoody and a pair of frog togs just in case we needed them. Never did. Seriously thought about selling the house, quitting my job and never leaving that place. It was absolutely amazing.

I never really take pics. This one is at 300 yards. I also shot an 4” group at 800y with it. It’s an impressive shooter for sure.

Just fished Lees Ferry June 30 and July 1. The water was extremely murky probably due to the run off. I could only see about six feet down. The flow was high around 18-20K. I fly fished mostly. Very lttle dry fly activity, I only caught three on dries on the back eddy at four mile. No cicadas were seen nor heard. The usual areas to wade were under five to six feet of water. I nymphed using an orange SJ worm and a green scud. I caught most on my fish on a weighted green wolly bugger using a full sinking line getting the hits on the swing. I also caght a few fish on dry/dropper, big dry with 2 feet of 5x holding a SJ worm in the few riffles that were available. Not one fish rose to the dry. The weather was nice with little wind but it got hot in the afternoon. I wore waders in the AM then after lunch I was down to long pants and sandals. My boat ran well and my new prop remained unscathed. Most of the guides had their clients fishing off the boat. I only saw three guide boats out on Saturday

2 July report: Well - Rosy crappie kicked my butt again. Absolutely nothing..zip..nada. Not even a sniff. Launched at Schoolhouse around 6:30 PM still hot as the front porch of heck. Screwed around a little across the lake and as the sun set made our way back towards the launch. Found brush piles/trees in about 20' of water. Lowered the lights and soon had a TON of small minnows once it was fully dark outside. A pair of friendly game and fish officers checked our licenses and we chatted for a bit. Fished with JD green grubs and minnows, plain hooked minnows on a split shot, other colors of jigs the same way, using slip bobbers or just dropping the line overboard. Fished various depths but no takers. Sat there until about 10:00 or so, with no bites other than from the damned bugs. Was still at 100 degrees or close at that time with no breeze, so we packed it in. Hard to believe with that much bait rising to the light we didn't get anything. Heard what I assumed to be bass jumping around, but I didn't have anything to throw their way. Thinking back, I don't think I've ever caught a crappie at Roosevelt. Plenty of bass, but the crappie certainly have the winning record. Stayed at the Roosevelt lake resort for the first time. Rooms seem to have been recently remodeled. Took a while for the AC to catch up to cool down the room, but it was good by the time we got back from fishing. The cafe/bar/restaurant wasn't bad. Their beer was ice cold.

great condition vortex binos. just got them back from vortex for a once over and cleaning. everything works great. there are some small cosmetic blemishes on the outer ring of the eye piece and 2 very small scratches on 1 Lense and 1 very small on another. none of them can be seen while using the glass and they're hard to get to show up on camera but they are there. the red lines I added to the pics point to the scratches. $1k located in Prescott valley

Don't know about bulk or online, but right now Sportsman's Warehouse has Federal 9mm 115gr for 14.99 for a box of 50. That is about the lowest that I've seen in a store.

For Kenai we just dress sensibly in layers with good rain gear and shoes that won’t soak through.

Been fishing there for 27 trips all over. I wear jeans and short rubber boots, wool shirt, coat and Helly Hansen or Grundens raingear. The raingear is the most important part. Sitka can be warm and beautiful or pouring down rain. Love fishing there for salmon, halibut and huge lingcod. You will have a blast.

Edge getting me to post my great grandpa's WWI uniform got me thinking about my dad's stuff from Vietnam. Most everything he has is a replacement/exact replica of everything he carried in the jungle as an infantry mortarman. I've told the story of his company being ambushed by a battalion-sized NVA element on Nov 11, 1967. Most everything dad had was left behind or had been taken/rummaged/looted when the NVA closed the horseshoe-shaped ambushed and surrounded dad's company (often breaching the perimeter). Dad was medevaced out Nov 12, 1967, when they could finally get helicopters in. Everything he had was in his rucksack and his fatigues were cut off at the hospital. Fast forward to Nov 19, 1978. Our house in our small Iowa town burned to the ground the night we moved in. We lost everything we owned. We barely got our alive and it was a total loss. We were living off donations for absolutely everything (clothes, place to stay, food, etc). I was 5 years old and only have two memories of the night. I vaguely remember dad being upset about the few things he managed to have from Vietnam that he shipped home prior to Nov 11, 1967. He had his original purple heart, with yhe plastic melted, and one of his bronze stars w/ "V" device, covered in soot. They were in a metal lockbox and that was the only thing to survive the fire. Fast forward again to the late 1980s. I was in high school, maybe finishing junior high. A friend of the family found one of dad's original jungle fatigue shirts in a footlocker of his. Nobody knew why this guy had it or where he got it from, but I'll never forget the look on dad's face when he got it back. I used to wear it all the time and was super proud to do that. I look at it now, and it's a grim reminder of just how small my dad was when he was 19/20 and all of the stuff he carried. Every time I start to complain about a load being heavy and a hill too steep, I find myself thinking of dad carrying all of his gear, plus 5 mortar rounds for his 81mm tube, including up triple canopy slopes in high humidity. Anyway, thanks for indulging me again.
