7 pointsAfter Googling the name on the dog tag I found, I was given several phone numbers, addresses and possible family members. I sent a photo of the dog tag to the cell numbers associated with the veterans name. About a week later, I got a response simply asking "Who is this?" After an explanation I was told that I had indeed located the next of kin. The vets widow, son and daughter in law were living in the same home. When I asked the daughter in law how the tag might have ended up out there in Morristown where I unearthed it. Back 60 years ago, the hotel there was also a general store, post office and had a Texaco garage. Sp4 Jarvis and wife were living in Sun City. He loved trains and since the old hotel was only a few hundred feet from the railroad tracks, he could take photos of the trains while having his car serviced. The tag arrived at his sons and widows home yesterday, this Memorial day weekend. Y'all have a good weekend and remember the reason we have a 3 day weekend.

3 pointsI don't know what became of my father's dog tags or service medals. I do have what the federal government gave my grandmother. The anchor and star when dad enlisted 1944, and the Exellence in war time production medal.

2 pointsI have my grandfathers somewhere. He was born in 1889 or so and served in WW1. It is round, about the size of a 50 cent piece.

2 pointsThose Vietnam era dog tags are different from the ones I was issued. These have the Name, serial number. The letters RA means Regular Army then the number Mr. Jarvis was issued. It was SSN after about 1967. The T58 was the year he got his Tetanus shot 1958. That info wasn't on ours. Blood type, that was on ours and then religious preference. That notch on the left side was to place in your teeth with a closed mouth if you were killed in action, which wasn't on my era dog tags. Late 70's and 80's.

1 pointWell my turn finally came and I drew a bonus pass tag on the second hunt for a Gould's tag. I was dieing to get in the woods after all the Gould's photos were posted last week. Finally got to the woods yesterday afternoon set up camp and had a few hours to do some scouting. First thing this morning I had another hunter move in on the birds I was calling in off the roost and it was game over for both of us. The scouting from the day before really paid off and we hurried to our plan B spot. We were able to locate and call in this strutting tom and his 7 hens. It was a short hunt and we were done by 6:45 this morning. I look forward to putting in for Merriam's again and getting to hunt for myself more often.

1 point6 more days till I hit the road for texas .I wish I was more prepared . So far I've got my ar10 put back together with the scope I took off . That thing shoots great. I've got the ar15 outfitted with a night vision scope the wife bought for me ( suprize). Got the 7-08 ready . Just need to mount the thermal scope on the wife's ar15 I plan on slipping in the mix of guns. Thursday is the day we are leaving and still alot to do. The wife thought it was a great idea to have the outside of the house painted . So I've got cameras and lights to re install . Still need to prep all the rest of my gear and clothes. 16 hours in the truck for hogs on my dad's buddies place. Rain is in the forecast so hopefully the hogs are moving . We have only one rule ( shoot all you see).

1 pointSinkholes - there is one out there that snowflake high school used to actually hall a piano down into and they did performed school plays out there because the acoustics was so good- carved in the rocks at the bottom is the name of the plays and the dates …. I can’t remember the dates 1940’s idk I can’t remember it’s been a few years since I’ve taken anyone to it and looked at it ….. but it’s pretty cool - I can’t image how they got a piano to the bottom of it .

1 pointSinkholes formed by the collapse of the overlaying Kaibab limestone. The McCauley Sinks south of Winslow is another cluster. Those are everywhere in that country. From east of Meteor Crater, heading south of Winslow and east and south past Holbrook. Some fascinating geology throughout the region. Sinkholes, fissures and fractures.

1 pointHere is how I shoot from 80 yards when I'm on. This is an old pic, but a good for instance.
-
1 pointOk, I'm not here to say I did the most ethical thing of all time. I wanted that buck, and I punched the release. I had taken a practice shot early that morning, and I felt good. I told my self I'd shoot 80 yards if I needed to, I think I actually said that out loud. As it turned out, the bucks stop was false...he looked when we grunted, and slowed, but did not come to a stop. But that arrow was gone. If I had led him any further, I risked hitting the tree. I held front of shoulder and sent it. Well, I watched that arrow disappear right smack in his paunch. I checked the arrow for confirmation. Sure enough, it was coated with green slime. So, we turned around and left. We did not look for that buck until the following morning. I was on pins and needles, everything in me wanted to go look for that buck, but we gave him nearly 24 hours. The next morning, I found him lying maybe 150 yards from where I shot him, tops. Full disclosure, he was in Princess Bride mode, so I put one more in him. I thought a lot about not publishing this story, it's not super epic, and the shot was questionable. But I'm glad it worked out. He tastes awful. So, he will be nothing but chili and taco meat for palatability. He was a big, rutted up, gut shot muley. Lol.
