Everything still looking good out this way, anticipate the crappie stocking to happen mid next month for San Carlos Lake. In other fishing news we got on Talkalai yesterday and good results all around despite the wind and turbid water. The crappie at Talkalai were the biggest I've ever seen there! DAN

Stanley, when your lady-friend is asking you if you want to check out "Chocolate Falls", you may not be discussing the same topic! May want to get some clarification before proceeding.

Put in the miles on Sunday and found a great matching set laying next to one another.

Laughed when I saw this on Facebook. Reminds me of the time I came across a drunk dude.in a.motorhome.in the middle of nowhere with WA.plates. Him and his wife were cussing and arguing about being lost and now they had a mule deer antler stuck in their tire.

In Unit 3A, glassing with binoculars can be a very effective technique for locating elk in the open areas. Once elk are spotted, a stalk can be made. Be aware that it is not legal to locate animals, and then use a vehicle to make a pursuit; this is considered hunting from a motor vehicle. In the juniper-woodlands, successful hunting techniques include calling, still-hunting, and hunting near watering areas. As with all hunting, pre-season scouting to locate animals prior to the hunt is important. An Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest map can be purchased at any National Forest District office (the closest ones to this area are in Lakeside and Overgaard), or at the Arizona Game and Fish Department Region I office in Pinetop. Dispersed camping is allowed on National Forest land in the southwestern corner of the unit. Although the weather in this unit is moderate, be prepared for snow and cold temperatures on late hunts. There is also the potential for inclement weather during the earlier hunts, but precipitation here is generally lighter at higher elevations to the south. The area around the cultivated land of the Dry Lake Farm off State Route 377 is posted and closed to hunting. Successful hunters will usually find elk somewhere between the fields and adjacent bedding areas, so getting onto the farm is not necessary. Access to this area is either by State Route 277 or 377 and two-track roads off the highways or the Zeniff road. The Zeniff road runs between the two highways and is the route used by most hunters. This road is a well-maintained dirt road, driveable under most weather conditions. Access to the 3A east area is through the Hay Hollow road that runs north from the Snowflake-Concho road, and by the Woodruff-Hay Hollow road that goes east from the south end of Woodruff.

Each year I look forward to a Merriam Turkey tag… sentimentally it’s because this species was my first “Big Game” harvest back in 2017. Yesterday marked my 4th solo shotgun harvest. I like to walk the woods and cold call 2 days prior to opening day for a first morning success, but I’ve never shot a Longbeard opening day! I usually go through the highs and lows of hunting before earning these big birds. This year was no exception. The wind was down right awful to hear or be heard. This year’s Tom was memorable because of how long we danced before pulling the trigger. I saw him walking the woods before he saw me so I quickly sat down without any real structure to blend into. He liked my slate scratching enough to fan out and strut at 55yrd, but there were brushy limbs between us. I kept that call close to my chest without any movement except the wrist. Little did I know, his Hen was behind me and walked past me to group up with the Tom. Once the two reunited, he wasn’t about to leave her and walk uphill into my shooting lane. After 50min of him fanning / strutting / feeding, I realized I had to move in. Slowly removed my vest and all other non essentials that would drag during the creep in. When he fanned facing the opposite direction, I balanced the 12ga on my lap and crab crawled in with the slate call. Occasionally throwing out some clucks and purrs to keep his attention. Took him at 09:45 35yrd puffed up in full fan. What a show!

I think if you state caliber, barrel length, and magazine capacity it might help. It's a great price.

Been here 3 days and 0 fish. Wind changed last night so now there is a 200 yard deep log jam before the cliffs so you can't get up there. Chocolate milk and logs everywhere thanks to the shifting winds.

I read So Cals largest reservoir is full for the first time in years. I hope this water abundance, aids farmers whom had their irrigation spigots turned off. Especially hoping we can see some relief in hay prices and availability. But I won't get too hopeful, this Washington administration has proven its the enemy of consumers and farmers alike.

Yeah I would go even with 7+ years. That thing is baked. Depends on if it was full sun light all day every day for years or under a tree some years etc.

Man...I read 13 whole pages of this...... Good year for you. Find that Muley though...the thought of a wasted death is sad to me. Even if it's dog meat it is worth finding. There will always be detractors. Your OP was "excited", if a little optimistic, but I didn't take it with any arrogance. I see how some might...but who cares. As to carrying on a golf course, I wouldn't...get in the way of my swing. But I never judge someone for carrying in this crazy world. I carry quite a bit, and I'm NOT small or inexperience in the art of H2H confrontation. Simply put...there is always someone bigger and better...so leave nothing to chance. Be nice kids...we only get one ride on this rock.
