With the elk/antelope deadline upon us I figured it would be a good time to make a post about my September elk hunt. Long story short I wanted to hold out for a better bull than I killed in 2017 so I was being a little picky. After a week of passing on a few bulls and not really seeing anything I was willing to shoot I decided to try some different areas. Blake had seen a straight 6x6 he guessed to be 350+ so I went into the area to try and turn him up. He also mentioned there was a big 5x6 in the area and to be on the lookout. We were able to find the 5x6 and after a couple blown attempts he made a mistake. We slipped in behind him pushing his cows out into the burn to feed and when he doubled back to chase off a smaller bull, we happened to be in between them. It was a chip shot at 43 yards and my arrow center punched him and he took off running. We trailed him for a little over a hundred yards and when we didn't find any blood we opted to back out to return the next morning. Not how I wanted it to go but that's just how it sometimes is. By far my best bull and I'm not sure I'll ever harvest a better one, but it won't be for lack of trying...

Except pets aren’t wildlife. The sign specifics wildlife…I read it as not taking the fox, bobcat, or whatever is in the trap for the fur, etc.

Same thing happens every year but yet people usually can't remember what they had for breakfast so no surprise there.

Surprised how many people are actually shocked that AZGFD's dumpster fire of a portal doesn't provide accurate info

Flagstaff currently has its second snowiest winter on record and the latest storm brought 30" to the house. I made my way down to Sedona before the storm and before the highways were closed. Ten inches of white goodness fell upon the red rocks. This trip was also the maiden voyage for a new Fuji GFX 100s and 45-100mm lens. I made the decision to go medium format with 102MP so printing large metal prints 60-90" would be less of a task.

That has to be one of the most frustrating stories ever. Sorry you got the raw end of someone else's screw up. Too late to help, but that's why I use a separate credit card for my draw applications. Any card of any kind that you use frequently is subject to something going wrong at the worst possible time. Scammers, thieves, bank errors, etc etc. One clean card with no balance, and I pay it off monthly for any tags or licenses I do use it for. I hope you draw a great tag next year to make up for it.

Not if you purchase them from your bank (which is what the original post indicated). I would not get them from Home Depot, grocery stores, etc., as they can be skimmed and used.

Sometimes funds are just that close, most of us have been there. Not piss poor just life.

I have always purchased a pre-paid card from my bank just for draws. Never have to worry about fraud, and the amount $ on the card covers that particular draw. If I don’t draw, I simply use it as I would a normal card until it’s cashed out.

Antelope hunting is fun because you can glass them all day long not much downtime! Haven’t used the horse, but the cow works great three of us hide behind this one.

My buddy does archery lope hunts. He has a 1 pin sight. Also he will use that goofy pronghorn hat to trick their sight. Not sure if that's really needed. But he likes it. Knee pads are a must plus whatever protection you can get. Get used to crawling for a distance with a bow too. Also get used to duck walking If it's dry water water water. Good luck!

Waste any time what? Asking other people if they have tips on hunting an animal I have never hunted before? Yes....I have read books, watched TV shows, been in the field etc. Did not ask for a honey hole, didnt even ask where to hunt. I know where to hunt. Appreciate your time....feel free to move on if you have nothing of value to add.

Circe produced a call that was made of black plastic and called the "trophy". Had two of them (not any more). The trophy model had a barrel that was an inch or two longer than the regular call. All things being equal, the call produced a lot of volume, it was marketed for bear & lion thus the name "trophy". The call in your photo appears to be regular length, likely a rare call color wise.

A bit more. Note the date in bold red. Reznik, Morris Morris Reznik, 89, long-time resident of Phoenix, AZ and retired owner of the Jewel Box Pawnshop, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 21, 2010.
