With the elk/antelope deadline upon us I figured it would be a good time to make a post about my September elk hunt. Long story short I wanted to hold out for a better bull than I killed in 2017 so I was being a little picky. After a week of passing on a few bulls and not really seeing anything I was willing to shoot I decided to try some different areas. Blake had seen a straight 6x6 he guessed to be 350+ so I went into the area to try and turn him up. He also mentioned there was a big 5x6 in the area and to be on the lookout. We were able to find the 5x6 and after a couple blown attempts he made a mistake. We slipped in behind him pushing his cows out into the burn to feed and when he doubled back to chase off a smaller bull, we happened to be in between them. It was a chip shot at 43 yards and my arrow center punched him and he took off running. We trailed him for a little over a hundred yards and when we didn't find any blood we opted to back out to return the next morning. Not how I wanted it to go but that's just how it sometimes is. By far my best bull and I'm not sure I'll ever harvest a better one, but it won't be for lack of trying...

I have not seen one. Have you thought about using color coded braid? https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/powerpro-depth-hunter-multi-colored-braided-fishing-line

IMO hunting pigs while there is heavy rain is a waste of time. Hunting pigs right after a storm can be very productive. If its just stupid windy, traditional glassing may not be highly effective, look for washes/breaks from the wind and still hunt them or glass/move till you find them.

I Had a great week hunting with some friends. Was planning to hunt the entire week if I had to. deer were tough to spot and was only seeing spikes or does for most of the hunt. On Sunday saw a beautiful buck that walked right out of my life. Tuesday rolled around and I saw a nice buck I decided to take. Was able to sneak into 350 for a chip shot. got the skull back and it looks great. Work was done by big brown taxidermy in queen creek.

Russ at best is ok. I speak from my own experience and dealings with. He does have most of that area on lockdown. With or without cameras the time and his crew spend up there along with the amount of blinds and salt he has I dont think he really needs cameras to know the Buffaloes pattern moving off the park. The coop isn’t a bad gig but know that the paid clients get the “good spots” and you will be sent else where. Its hunting you never know but it helps to know they are hitting a particular area or salt and that’s where his clients will be. I started in the coop and then a few of us decided it wasn’t for us. The 3 of us killed Bulls. I’ve read quite a few posts before and after my hunt with guys talking about not putting in up there cause of the BS! I say thx cause I/family/friends will take the tag. If you can hunt and you hunt your way you will get your chance at a Bull/Cow. It’s your tag don’t allow any guide up there to dictate where you go or how you should hunt and be respectful to the other hunters you will be successful. In the beginning the Buffalo on the plateau usually come off the park in a pattern based on snow melt and the want/need for salt. I had this hunt a few years ago and have been apart of a hunt one way or another every year since . There is more salt in areas then they are marked on maps you’ll see unless you pay to play. There are shenanigans that do go on up there while your not looking but if you put in the work you’ll get it done. Take a lot of pics during the hunt and with your bull! good luck

The Boys had a great day out Sunday. Only day we had with high school wrestling in full swing. First archery kill for one and second for another. First time I have every seen three taking on first stock, same herd and no blood trailing. All dropped insight. Middle pig is a hoss.

The reservoir would have to be made 'upside down. ' (Hassayampa humor) Painted Rock comes to mind. If CA was concerned about addressing their drought, why haven't they been building reservoirs? Too distracted by giving illegals welfare and mandating electric lawnmowers?
