2 pointsYep, they've been pretty persistent lately. Most are long time members here so you might not know or remember but when signing up for an account here, Amand has put a couple of things in place that are specifically designed to try to keep bots/spam to a minimum. Firstly, when the new user initially tries to sign-up there is challenge-response authentication step in place that is primarily designed to curb bot attacks. Secondly, the user then can't post or sign-in until they reply to the initial e-mail that is sent (This is a standard internet account authentication step that is designed as much to protect the user as it is the site....). Even with those standard protocols in place, of course scammers/fakers are still persisting and getting through. Best advice I have is to try to ignore them as 'white noise' and know that the moderators are doing our best to delete the erroneous accounts as quickly as possible. S.

1 pointI belong to the Wickenburg Sportsmens Club east of the town. Its private and you have to live within 20 miles of downtown to become a member. There's several bays and cover for rifles and pistol, skeet. A thousand yard range and 3d archery course are in the works. The range is self regulated since it sits mostly dormant once the snowbirds and ropers head home. If you meet Membership requirements, have a member sponsor you, an RSO meets with you to judge your range and firearm safety knowledge. The club wants to have RSOs on hand at the range and will put any volunteers through the NRAs RSO course on the clubs dime. Eventually the range will have to be regulated by an RSO at all range times just to meet the town and insurance needs. Scores of club members stepped up and got certified to insure the range stays open.

1 pointI'm a member at Rio and it's not currently bad during the week mid day till close. The weekend is a little busy. But being a member you usually will get a bench before the general crowd. It's 150 ish I do believe to join for a single or a little more for family. The 150 is the first time as they add a administrative charge then it's like 125 or so a year afterwards. They just setup a rf I'd reader so you just scan your badge and walk in no waiting like the general during the shooting session. It's close enough to run out and shoot a few rounds and know you can do it again another day and not have to rush to try and get all your stuff dialed in .There is always another day to go back. They also have another set of bays for longer range you can get on. You have to qualify to get on them. It's a safety thing as they usually don't have a ro there. I think you have to shoot a few matches and then they will sign off your card and you can shoot the other range. There is usually no one there or very few people on it.

1 pointIt's probably a little of each. The scope might not have been set for correct eye relief. I like to get the focus dialed in to clean up the cross hairs first then when setting the eye relief I run the scope up to max magnification and make sure I can still see the hairs clearly then lightly snug things down and adjust the magnification back down and make sure it's still clean.

1 pointPhoenix Rod & Gun Club. Weekend days on the main range that is open to the public is a zoo, but the members only side ranges are usually pretty good. Just have to check the calendar before you go to see if the range you want is open, or booked for a match.

1 pointThe Tucson Rifle Club, in 3 Points about 20 miles west of Tucson, is probably two hours one way from San Tan. Last time checked it was $100 a year (it has been a while so the annual may have increased). That fee used to cover two people in a household. Even on weekends after 1pm the place is is usually not crowded…you can shoot to 500 meters on the first range and 1k on the long range, if you are a member, but you gotta have a partner and radios. If you just wanna go for the day the 500 meter range midday to afternoon is a good deal at $20. You can bring your own paper or steel. They have pigs at 300m, turkeys at 400 and rams at 500 you can paint. I am in my 40s and I started shooting there in my 20s…I don’t think the steel they have has been replaced in that time but they did improve the restrooms a few years back

1 pointLook on line, and look at craiglist a 3-6 months before the hunt starts. There are owners out there that just sell a few tags. Big ranches usually have outfitters and it will cost you a total probably around 3-5k. Depending on the land size it can cost you from 1k-3k for a landowner tag. You need to be diligent in searching. I paid once for a outfitter the first time. It was 4k. So I searched and searched. I got lucky a guy on a ranch of 50,000 acres was looking for quality safe, ethical hunters he can trust year after year. He refuses outfitters. That add came out on Muley Crazy.com. after a google search. He posted it 15min before and I quickly called him. He is a great guy and he got to hand pick the people to hunt this land that he trust and its the same people every year. So lots of email, lots of phone calls. You might get lucky and find a good ranch at a good price. Good luck

1 pointBeen there, done that, and I agree that it’s a pretty boring, long ordeal. Have been putting in for Raymond since but can’t get too excited about that either. I just want a bison to finish my big 10 and get some really good meat. Wish there were better options

1 pointThe stocking will likely have the biggest impact for spring 2024 as most ppl understand I think, but we'll likely have a mix of fish, some fingerling and some capable of spawning this year. There were no fish left last summer except carp and some gizzard shad which all perished as the lake completely dried. As some have explained the lake is very capable of rebounding all on its own from naturally occurring fish in the Gila and those washed down from Talkalai during flooding. 2017-18 gave the Lake enough water and time to do the above mentioned process which is what is also predicted for '23-'24. When the Lake dries it creates a very fertile environment which can explode with aquatic life should those area fill with water as in a "New Lake Effect". Here's Old San Carlos area late August of last year and the same area yesterday. DAN

1 pointLOL, I have not, although I've had some pretty stanky duck before. Kind of like the essence that frog legs and turtle are known for. I season heavy and accompany with a tacky sauce such as habanero infused honey, or ginger/chile orange marmelade. Usually does the trick.
