38 pointsNot much to write, other than I sat on my glassing nob this morning, wondering why I even came hunting with this nasty winter storm on top of me. Windy, cold, and rainy. About 20 min into glassing I heard rocks crashing underneath me and this buck was running around the nob looking for a doe 100 yards beneath me. I went down the hill and to my surprise the buck was still there coming out of the cut he had no idea I was even there and gave me a 40 yard shot.I made a great shot and he expired within 40 yards. Being in the right place at the right time was the truth this morning and luck was on my side. I have never had a buck run up on me like that when I am glassing but I guess anything is possible during the rut!

11 pointsI killed this buck with my 4 year old son by my side during the opening morning of the general rifle hunt. We were late getting out of the cabin by about an hour but it all worked out. As we were working our way to our glassing spot we found this guy hanging out near the road. Having my son with me during this hunt was by far my best experience in the field.

3 pointsThe Boys had a great day out Sunday. Only day we had with high school wrestling in full swing. First archery kill for one and second for another. First time I have every seen three taking on first stock, same herd and no blood trailing. All dropped insight. Middle pig is a hoss.

My mother is the most loving and giving person you would ever know.. So hers a big shout out to Mom /aka Joan Cornwell.. I love you Mom and praying fora speedy recovery and hope you will be home soon 😥. Please everyone if you have time and a extra prayer or two My mother and my family could all use one right now.. 1 pointMy younger brother and I have been hunting Az for 7 years and specifically predator calling for about 4 now. Very excited but also a little embarrassed it took me this long to get my first coyote. We’ve both missed a few over the years and also just messed up a few opportunities. We always felt like we didn’t really know what we was doing but it finally all came together a couple days ago. We had just finished the 2nd stand of the morning and after seeing nothing for 30 minutes, I suddenly noticed something on the opposite ridge about 200 yards off, literally as we were unloading our guns and packing up the call and ready to call ourselves the worlds worst predators hunters. I quickly got set up on it in the prone position and dropped it at 185 yards right as it was about to trot back over the ridge. We went ballistic when we walked up on it. Hopefully we’ve broken our curse and will start harvesting more predators now. Hunting 21 with the deer and pronghorn populations being decimated by coyotes. Thanks to anyone that bothered to read this. I know a lotta guys are able to shoot hundreds of these things a year but we were very excited feeling like we finally cracked the code.

1 pointIf you can find the old primos DVD speak the language on turkeys, it does a great job explaining the calling. Also on PBS there's a show called "life as a turkey" that I highly recommend. About some guy hatching some eggs and raising turkey's.

1 pointI have had birds come into the fakest looking decoys on the market... when the toms worked up, he doesnt care if she's ugly or a difference race. Worry more about your decoy placement.

1 pointMake sure you have your back to a tree .I had the 6a spring hunt a few years back and you never know what you can call in.Calling turkey and had a bear step out at 30 yds and closed to 20 as I backed out .Remember you sound like food for most predators.

1 pointRead the thread TURKEY: First Time Oct 26. Comments from members are spot on to hear, find, and draw in the Tom. You should also be watching for signs of bird presence when they aren’t make a peep (or gobble). Look for bird turd. White question mark shape means Tom. White popcorn shape means Hen. (Pics attached). Foot prints in snow or mud wil be obvious. Feed scratching of pine needles will look like someone took a leaf rake to a 1’x1’ area. Bunch of feathers at the base of tree indicates their chosen roost tree and preening. One last pointer… as hard as it is to be actively hunting 1-1.5hrs before sunrise… on the 6th day, do it. Those are golden hours. Good luck, it’s so fun!

1 pointWe had a doe and fawn blow out below us about 150 yards and the doe kept blowing for at least ten minutes. She kept looking back in our direction but we knew that they didn’t wind us ( wind blowing pretty good in our face). I told my son to get his rifle ready and I would skirt the hill to see what was below us. He said he heard something growling. I proceeded to walk over to the saddle to glass back to where he was sitting and he was getting prone. Next thing I see is him shooting down from where we were glassing. He shoots throws his hands up in excitement and is frantically waving for me to get back over there. I run back and he said he just smoked a lion and there were 2 more with it. I get set up on his rifle and the second cat was sitting under a juniper above his cat. I take the shot and my cat bails off into the cut. Then a 3rd lion pops out and proceeds to sniff around my sons lion then ended up disappearing into the cut mine went into. It killed around for about 15 minutes. My oldest son was supposed to be with us but wouldn’t call out sick from work. Needless to say he was bummed. We could have had a Trifecta. IMG_1190.MOV
