I like it. I always have my phone and don’t have to carry a license or tag. This is especially helpful when I fish. That’s just me-

The only reason i opted in is some states post draw results a little earlier for those on etags. It saves azgfd money to not print and mail tags as well

Well weather was not ideal on the hunt and for the first time hunting this mountain range I felt like every where I went there was someone else there. Bigger deer were not being cooperative and only 80" -90" deer seemed to be poking their heads out. The end of the hunt I was able to turn this buck up and decided to take him. Can't pass up some good eating coues in the freezer.

Look what Cole brought home for Kelly and I for Christmas!!!! We have been kicking around side by side options for several years! Just didn’t see ourselves using it for the cost! Cole originally bought this rig for his business but sold his business, has one more semester of school and thought maybe, just maybe we would enjoy it instead of a side by side! I ain’t turning it down 😂😂😂and we already put it to use!!! Dam kid gonna spoil me!

At least if you pay attention you have the option to come down here! If AZ keeps letting everyone come down here and kill deer for their instasham page our deer are gonna look like Colorados elk and antelope just a bunch of runts running around the OTC units, then it will be ruined for everyone. I hope AZ makes all OTC resident only, at a minimum they should make nonresident archery tags a draw and use their points when they get a tag. IMO

I’m a non resident and knew of the sale/quota well in advance. Received emails and all. With social media now a days I don’t know how anything can be missed. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I don't take it as rude at all. It's a valid opinion and I always appreciate constructive feedback. I don't disagree and also don't mean to be rude (I promise no sarcasm intended), but, we set up our classes here in Flagstaff to cater to our local kids (Flagstaff, Williams, Parks, Bellmont) first and foremost. I would expect an instructor team in another town to do the same (cater to local families' schedules and their availability). I took the class with my daughter in 2013 in Pinetop because getting into a class in Flagstaff was impossible at the time. We arranged our schedule to be there when we were supposed to be because she needed the class. That's actually what prompted me to become an instructor; I wanted to provide more opportunities for our local kids. Classroom classes have a 16-hour requirement, including the field day. We've been doing Thurs-Sun classes like this for 9 years with great success. From experience and feedback, the classroom classes that drag on for 2-3 weeks get really long and students forget the material really easily. It's painful for instructors (at least that's our team's perspective) to have classes 2 hours/night 2 nights/week for 3 weeks. Several folks from Camp Verde, Prescott, Prescott Valley, and even Tucson say they prefer our class schedule and are willing to put in the time because they prefer the in-person classes to the online classes. Several of our locals up here are asking for in-person classes for their kids because of the more in-depth coverage of material, quizzing, and testing we provide. You are correct that there is a backlog of online students and we offer several online field days May-October, including some 2/day online classes (morning and afternoon) when the weather is cool enough. At the same time, AGFD is encouraging all instructor teams to get back to in-person classes as much as possible, while still catering to the need for online field days. All of the requests we've had up here for in-person classes is why I was perplexed that nobody had signed up even after we advertised it 3 weeks ago. And, to be perfectly honest, we see much better test scores and material retention from kids who take the in-person class vs those who take the online class. We have much less need to provide test corrections to get kids passing grades in the in-person class compared to the online class. It certainly can be, but we break it up with rotations. between chapters taught. We break all classes up into three groups for Saturday and the field day. We have the AGFD room split with a divider for Saturday and rotate between each side, pulse the lobby so kids aren't sitting in the same seat all day. Throw in plenty of breaks, an hour lunch with a test review, and plenty of jokes, and the day flies by. The kids get plenty of time and opportunities to blow off steam and pent-up silliness and wiggles. On top of that, we rarely, if ever, go until 5 pm. We reserve the conference room for all day just in case there is a kid who needs extra help with their test. We just don't want parents showing up too early to get their kids and I'm personally communicating constantly with parents and students so they know what's happening and what to expect. We've never gotten any negative feedback from kids or parents about the length of the day or how our classes are scheduled. I've even had parents tell me they appreciate the opportunity to have a day to themselves.

I haven’t shared a story in a while, been trying to find the time to write this one up and finally taking the time today. I didn’t draw a tag this year but my 2 youngest boys did. My 16 year old, Rusten found a spot he wanted to hunt and made a couple trips in there and scouted it pretty well. He found where we could get water and got a good lay of the the land but never found any big bucks. The first few days of the hunt we decided to go to an area we were already familiar with. After a pretty brutal hike we set up a quick camp and started glassing. We quickly found a cool 2x3 buck bedded at 600 yards but while we were trying to decide if one of the boys wanted to shoot him, he got up and disappeared into the brush. By then it was mid-day so we decided to drop into the canyon and filter some water to get us through the next couple days. After filling up we made our way back to our glassing point. At around 2pm, Rusten glassed up two bucks bedded at 800 yards. We took a good look at them and thought the bigger one might be close to 100”. My 14 year old Camm, decided he wanted to shoot the bigger of the two bucks so we made a plan. Rusten stayed on the hill while Camm and I moved closer. While we were getting into position the bucks got up and started feeding. We got to 415 yards and found a big boulder to get into a semi-prone position. He was able to make a great shot and put down his 3rd coues deer and his biggest buck yet at around 97”. By the time we got him broke down and back to camp it was 830 and we were pretty exhausted. We got Camm’s meat cooled off and hanging in the shade and we were back at it the next morning looking for a buck for Rusten. He had his sights set pretty high on an only shooting a big buck. He has been lucky enough to kill two bucks around the 100” mark already. One of them was on the same hill that camm just killed his buck on so we were hopeful of finding another good buck. Unfortunately, the next 2 days the wind picked up big time and we only turned up some small bucks and a bear. We decided to pack Camm’s deer out and move camp to the area Rusten scouted After a few hours at home we were back at it the next morning in a new area with high hopes Monday we found around 10 bucks, nothing big, but that evening we saw a couple that were too far out that looked promising. Tuesday morning we glassed close to camp at first light but by mid-day we were over were we saw the bucks the previous evening. We were on top of a the biggest hill in the area looking down into some shaded cuts. At around 2pm, I found a buck up feeding about 600 yards below us. As I was trying to point him out to the boys, he disappeared behind some trees. We were waiting for him to come out and another buck appears that was noticeably bigger. I wasn’t sure how big but I could see he had long beams and decent point length. Rusten decided pretty quickly he wanted to shoot him. Normally, I would help my boys find a place to shoot from and get the rifle set up for them but this time I just told Rusten to make it happen. We weren’t able to get any closer because of a big bluff below us so I gave him the dope for 613 yards and he knocked him down. I was pretty surprised when I walked up to him to see that he was a better buck than I thought. This is Rusten’s 5th coues deer and also his best at close 106” We were beyond blessed on this hunt. My boys impress me so much with their willingness to put in the hard work chasing these deer in the backcountry. We had a lot of laughs especially trying to stuff the 3 of us into a 2 man backpacking tent. Good memories for sure.
