Had my boys first youth cow elk hunt in 22. Started good while scouting a couple days before the hunt saw a few but not alot. Hunt started with an almost full moon so elk were hard to locate. We had a lot of downs before my son made a great shot and got his first elk. I wanted to say thank you to some of the guys on here who helped provide some good information. Hope all the youth elk hunters have/had a great experience.

This is a pretty unique story, A good friend's son drew a muzzy tag in NM and my buddy got called to do some LEO training in Washington DC and NY for 12 weeks so he called me and asked if I could help his son on his first tag. I only could commit the weekend but after a bunch of rain and couple missed opportunities Colter smoked this bull at 250 yards off his knee for his first bull.

It's a story hard to write but my son killed his first bull after a whirlwind 6 days. He was very limited on time and it got the best of him but we had a great time and lots of memories made. Bull he passed after a tough day the day before. Bull that came in after he didn't have enough patience. This is the bull we were hunting but he had already shot another bull 5 minutes before. Having little experience and no time for a hunt really hurt him but in the end his goal was accomplished. He killed a bull, and we got to spend some good days hunting.

(Edit): We ended up hunting for 6 days straight, 3 with my little one right by our side. On third day a forky ran right up on us at like 30 yards while we were talking to a game warden. He got spooked and darted off in the bushes and while we were trying to find him, a truck pulled up from the road and the father and son jumped out and shot him right in front of us. On the 4th night we spotted 2 forkies and a doe right at dusk at 460 yards, but we ran out of good shooting light and then they weren't there in the morning. But while looking for them ended up spotting a nice 3 x 3 bedded down on the side of a hill at 315 yards. All we could see was his big head and while attempting to get closer for a better shot he got spooked and ran over the hill. For the next two hours went all the way around the hill, directly through the cat claw bushes trying to find him, but never did. On the 6th morning we conquered just about the biggest hill in the area, to find this beautiful specimen. Ryder shot him in the lungs at 360 yards. All of the hard work payed off and it was a great lesson for Ryder. Hunting teaches so many valuable lessons and that's exactly why I wanted to teach my two sons to do it.

After a couple of elk and mule deer, my son decided to chase white tails this year. We put away our glasses and still hunted a creek bottom. We got really close to a lot of deer in a pretty short amount of time. We caught this guy snacking on acorns with a couple of other smallish bucks. He was hiding behind a tree, and I could barely see antlers poking out. When the other deer decided to bolt, I told my son to get ready and shoot as soon as he stepped out. Well, after about a minute of peeking around the tree at us, he got nervous and decided to make a run for it. My son took a heart shot at 40 yards, and blew his heart right out of the other side of the deer. It was a short track job.

Since we hunt different units for archery, ham and rifle hunts, we went out last weekend scouting for the wife’s rifle hunt, see where the pigs are hanging out this year. We basically learned where there were NO javelina, couldn’t find any sign either. Opening day we made plans to go into a roadless area, where pigs often go after being pressured. About 9:30 my wife caught some movement in a wash a mile out, she was sure it wasn’t a deer. We watched for another 15 minutes and sure enough 9 pigs walked out of a draw to feed. We snuck in to 120 yards and waited for the larger boar to turn broadside and she took her chip shot. Whenever we’re hunting we always pick up trash, mostly beer cans. As luck would have it my wife spotted a pile of valentine day balloons tangled up in a brush. She went and grabbed them so we could take some of the weirdest pictures I’ve been part of.

Remember a vote for me is a vote for AMERICA! Actually, I did this on a whim after seeing a facebook ad. My goal was not to finish last, but now that I am first in my group my brother is insisting that I actually try. https://biggamehero.com/2022/fred-mariscal Here are the three pictures I used. Like my profile says, No BS, I still have not shot a big game animal past 190 yards. Stories are pretty cool for all three, many of you have heard them. Bison was 27 days hunting solo and on the last day at 505 AM after I had my bow packed to go home, I see this bull and another one at 80 yards and put the only four rounds I had on me in him. The packout was painful. Mt lion I shot in the face after interrupting his meal at 18 yards or so. That was intense and the noises he was making before the shot had my intention. The antelope after 8 days of hunting or so and making a bad shot on him the week prior (nicked his butt) I stalked to a couple hundred yards of him and two does. I waited behind several hours until they walked by and made an absolutely horrible shot that was incredible fatal at 45 yards. A conservative gross score on him was 87-1/8" not including the very well placed sticker points. The free votes you have to use your facebook login.

Not my recipe and I haven't tried it yet, but my friend from MN sent this to me. Hopefully I'll be eating this soon. Treager Grill, blue cheese crumbles and 24 hour marinade. I grill it at 225 until the inside of the meat gets to 90 F, then flip it, put the blue cheese crumbles on, heat the grill to 350 F until it's 128 F. Take it off the grill, let it rest for 5 min and then proceed to eat all of it.

Thanks. We really did have a great time. GroundPounders killed this bull the next day. I had him somewhere between 375-80. I heard he went quite a bit bigger.

The wife and I are trying to clear out some of the whitetail from last year’s hunt in anticipation for her (fingers crossed) tagging out later this year on the late bull hunt. We did two smoked rump roasts on Sunday and tried an osso buco recipes with bone in shanks. Both turned out delicious!

Pre bailout 5.3 Vortec…. awesome engines, cheap parts, easy to fix. Should get another 100,000 out of that if it was well maintained.

I got a 2001 Chevy Silverado 4x4 with 5.3L - automatic- 166K miles- other than ball joints never left me stranded. She is not pretty - road hard but always maintained - decent tires - needs nothing - I would drive it to LA tonight. Just sitting on side yard - again she not pretty multiple dents, paint faded and interior rough (seat covers covering it) - motor and tranny strong - looking to get just above your low price range - been debating putting it for sale- it was my first new truck I bought in 2001 - but never drive her anymore with a new truck and SXS. Last 8 years was justing a hunting truck (licensed and insured passed emissions)

Here is my 2022 NM archery mule deer. I hunted hard for 8 days, passing many bucks before I was able to sneak in on this buck and his buddy. 46 yard shot through the heart.
