Our friends from Texas traveled here last week for their 11 year old daughters first elk hunt in 3A/3C. Opening morning was the type of experience you hope a first time elk hunter gets to be a part of. Multiple bulls screaming leading you into a herd. Unfortunately, the fog rolled in so thick that we could not ever get a good opportunity but knew where they bedded. That afternoon we hiked down a ridge that allowed us to look south into the canyon they were in. Not 30 minutes in and the bull had them up and moving giving Isla a 294 yard shot with her 6.5 creedmore. One well placed shot through the shoulder and she had her first elk. Man these youth hunts are so fun to help on!

Hey guys, got this guy last Sunday on day 10 of a tough hunt. The rut was sporadic at best with some days having almost no bugles during daylight hours. I've been getting caught up at work so haven't done a full write-up, this guy came in screaming with about 10 cows at 7:15 am when it had been quiet all morning. I had to wait at full draw for what seemed like ever for his cows to clear out from between us, but managed to make a heart shot. He only went about 30-40 yards before tipping over. I'm super exited. He's my biggest bull to date, and broke my drought. It's been a few years since I've put anything bigger than an turkey or javi on the ground.

Went up to 6A last weekend pretty good time w @Sketchy Tom . Was the first fall bird hunt I was on, didn’t have a tag. No gobbles or yelps but made quick work with the squirrels. Shot about ten between me and my buddy even ate some at camp one night. Also found a pretty sweet shed.

After a couple of elk and mule deer, my son decided to chase white tails this year. We put away our glasses and still hunted a creek bottom. We got really close to a lot of deer in a pretty short amount of time. We caught this guy snacking on acorns with a couple of other smallish bucks. He was hiding behind a tree, and I could barely see antlers poking out. When the other deer decided to bolt, I told my son to get ready and shoot as soon as he stepped out. Well, after about a minute of peeking around the tree at us, he got nervous and decided to make a run for it. My son took a heart shot at 40 yards, and blew his heart right out of the other side of the deer. It was a short track job.

Put a dent in the fish pile this week. Amazing to say the least. Also had some leftover fish last night but no pics, fish tacos. Old school fish and chips and nigiri / sashimi

This year continues to be one for the books. My 12 year old son Max drew a muzzleloader bull tag in a unit many consider to be sub par for elk. I have assisted on 3 archery bull kills in the unit, so I knew that although trophy elk were tough to find they were there. The opener found us calling our way into a major dark timber bedding area that I had seen multiple large bulls on previous hunts. It was dead quiet. No bugles and after one calling sequence a satellite 5 point came sneaking in but never game Max an ethical shot. Yesterday, day 2, I decided to slip in to the edge of the bedding just after first light and wait. No bugles at all, so I decided to do a few soft cow calls. Less than a minute later this giant snuck in silent 52 yards below us and Max made a perfect shot. We had no idea how truly magnificent he was until we walked up on him 30 minutes later. Bull is an 8 by 7 with a 14” flyer point. Didn’t get to fully score him but a few quick measurements indicate 370-380”. 42” inside spread and total width with flyer 58”. Best hunting day of my life and one I will never forget!

She used the Hornady 143 eldx. Bullet went through shoulder and devestated the organs.

I love that bullet. Taken three elk for us out of a 7-08 around 3000fps. I spoke with nosler, and they said the 120 and 140 start as the same blank but the 140 is extruded more. Here’s a pic that should illustrate it. for comparison, I shot the 140gr at a coues a few years back from a 280ai around 3150fps at around 500 yards. Recovered bullet had about 70% weight retention. The thinner jacket worked well at the reduced velocity at that distance.

Pic of the most recent speed test (mind you my Verizon Internet Gateway is plugged into a USB-C docking station, then my PC is plugged into that). You'll probably need to check your area, as it's pulling internet access from a 5G tower near my place in Dobson Ranch. If it were me, I'd ditch the Cox email address and run a free Gmail address. Or if you need the space, pay an extra $1 a month for more memory.

Those who have Verizon and are concerned on pricing, while also having an internet provider such as Cox cable....you may want to cancel Cox internet and switch to Verizon home 5G. I did that and it's bundled in with my cell phone bill. Cox was at $110 a month, Verizon internet now down to $35 a month, no contracts, no data limits, and 3 year price guarantee. So far so good, I work from home in the software biz and the internet connection quality is faster and more reliable than it was with Cox cable. Not trying to pimp out Verizon internet, but it's a good way to cut costs if you are concerned with their cell phone prices. And yes, I whole heartedly agree with rural coverage. Verizon gets better coverage in remote areas than T-Mobile or AT&T..

As crappy and Expensive as Verizon is, EVERYONE I know who has switched, has regretted it.

Yes, thanks have been around the east and west boundary many times, I think I am going to focus on the southern portion this time east and west sides.

10 years old gut shot from the road Walked up to it dad was going to finish it with a knife, didn’t realize it was still THAT alive. It jumped up and stopped about 20 yards away and I took the hair off it’s back. It took off and we had to track it for a little while, jumped it again, went to shoot it off my dads shoulder and I flipped the safety back ON not knowing he flipped it off for me. Tracked it awhile further found it bedded on the opposite side of a small tree. Dad told me to shoot it through the bush you see in the picture. Me being 10 tried to look through the scope and missed it at about 6 feet. Then told to just point the barrel at it and shoot. Finally finished it off.. I’ll never live down missing that deer that close. Good memories
