I am happy to get my buck today. I love hunting these desert mule deer.

Each year I look forward to a Merriam Turkey tag… sentimentally it’s because this species was my first “Big Game” harvest back in 2017. Yesterday marked my 4th solo shotgun harvest. I like to walk the woods and cold call 2 days prior to opening day for a first morning success, but I’ve never shot a Longbeard opening day! I usually go through the highs and lows of hunting before earning these big birds. This year was no exception. The wind was down right awful to hear or be heard. This year’s Tom was memorable because of how long we danced before pulling the trigger. I saw him walking the woods before he saw me so I quickly sat down without any real structure to blend into. He liked my slate scratching enough to fan out and strut at 55yrd, but there were brushy limbs between us. I kept that call close to my chest without any movement except the wrist. Little did I know, his Hen was behind me and walked past me to group up with the Tom. Once the two reunited, he wasn’t about to leave her and walk uphill into my shooting lane. After 50min of him fanning / strutting / feeding, I realized I had to move in. Slowly removed my vest and all other non essentials that would drag during the creep in. When he fanned facing the opposite direction, I balanced the 12ga on my lap and crab crawled in with the slate call. Occasionally throwing out some clucks and purrs to keep his attention. Took him at 09:45 35yrd puffed up in full fan. What a show!

I'd say run her 'til the wheels fall off, then put them back on, and run her some more! Save that $600/mo (modest est. I know) truck payment in a retirement account. In hindsight, I have regretted selling most vehicles I have owned.

So on friday the 13 the kids decided to feed dad with all the pups loose and he snipped this little guy cutting the back of his tounge, he had to get stitched up at the vet . he eats and drinks fine no problems just a scar ring on half his tounge. The dr said he shouldnt have any long term issues other then the scar. We want to make sure he still gets to go to a nice home. Can txt any questions and i can send pics of his tounge. Had a great time last weekend. Bite was good on chiggers and crawdads. Caught my biggest fresh water fish.

It amazes me how states flooded with rivers can enforce/encourage single hook and c&r only on every waterway and we pretty much have two rivers and people would be up in arms if you even brought it up. I've seen people empty a pool and leave skins all over the bank and think nothing of it.

I'm an adult onset hunter. My first hunt was in 2019 Finally got one on my 3rd hunt. I Always saw them but never got close enough for a shot. Tuesday of the hunt I went out solo, this guy came up behind me at 15 yards. already looking forward to next year. Tuesday 2-22-2022 at 2 pm unit 22

Just barely catching up on this thread but where did the original OP go? Definitely sounding like Naturegirl 2.0.......should I go hunt the same unit/time my ex is hunting ..... crazy stuff folks!!!
