Thought I'd share an encounter from last fall....

You are absolutely right. Great video! But anymore it is tough to share pictures and videos to sites like this. Too many guys are overly eager to critique every they "perceive" you did wrong, why you shouldn't be doing what you did or how you did it, how they know everything about a situation they didn't witness or have first hand knowledge of, etc. It sucks being excited about something and eager to share it, only to have the armchair QBs knock you and it. It takes a lot of the joy out of it and makes you want to keep those things private, or for your immediate circle. At the very least, this has largely been my experience and the experience of many of my close friends. Most of my hunts these days are for my kids and wife. I can't stand to see someone rip my kids or wife for not being the perfect hunter (it has happened multiple times). One guy even made a DB comment to my 12 year old daughter, face to face, about her "bad shot placement" on a javelina that took her from the high of a successful hunt to immediate tears. I don't associate with that friend any longer after having words with him. I should be a better person and ignore the nonsense and idiots, but unfortunately it is not who I am. So I just don't share much publicly anymore. Sorry to hijack the thread. Just something I unfortunately have strong feelings about. I am glad guys like you (the OP) and Houston are still comfortable sharing. Again, great video and thank you for sharing it.

End party apps. This will stop the point “selling” game guys play w/PG. Or, you want to play the point guard game? Great, everyone in your party app has to turn in their tag too.

It seems all we ever hear about is negative experiences in customer service, so I want to relay a positive experience recently. In December I emailed Sig customer service, as my LRF (an early Sig Kilo 2000) that my LRF would no longer range past about 400 yards. This was after putting new batteries in etc. It took a couple weeks to get an email back, but after a few emails with a rep, he gave me a RMA, and I got the LRF in the mail. Less than a week after they received it, I got an email notification of a packaged shipped from them. The are not only replacing my LRF, but upgrading me to a Sig Kilo 5K, 100% free of charge. Wonderful service and I couldn't ask for anything better!

It was cold with wind chill in the mid 20’s opening morning. Saw nothing but deer and coyotes. We had to walk around to check out small cuts out of the wind. We found just 2 pigs feeding and were able to double up at 52 yards. We stayed around for another day and found a couple more herds for next year’s HAM trip.

At least we could ask intelligent questions back like was it fair chase, a canned hunt, an ethical shot? etc... Scary part is these idiots cancel out your vote.

this is one of the most ridiculous statements i’ve read. Would you rather have a good shot at killing a big animal once in your lifetime or a reasonable chance at killing a big animal every several years? Quality is down across the state but it is still there. You’ve just got to hunt a little harder now.

She didn't know for sure but she did say as soon as they're done giving all the famous YouTubers/influencers their tags they'll start the draw for us commoners. I guess it's taking longer than they thought because Randy can't decide on what tag he wants.

Hopefully it goes smooth this time.

First post. Old style binoculars claiming they are new and selling them for new HD price. Totally not a scam.

IF we get all the rain/snow they say we might....any of you antler growth experts think it will make a difference this year? Is it enough? Too late? I know some people think how the animals go into the winter plays a big part. The Summer, Fall and early winter were extremely dry. Curious on your thoughts.

Wow, I thought this topic was dead. Obviously, since the whole draw/CC deadline issue was settled, we moved on to different things to argue about. To put a cap on this, at least for me, I was just curious what others thought when I originally posted. It is a subject that intrigues me. Also, I was trying to figure out what kind of hunts we would put in for. I am not a guy, nor is my family, one to put in for trophy hunts exclusively. I love to hunt elk, whether it be cows, bulls, rifle, bow, muzzleloader, etc. Of course, I want to kill a big bull as much as the next guy. It was different in years past, where I had many family members applying for elk. I was willing to wait and put in for early archery hunts for myself, but I got to go on hunts almost every single year for the last 20 because someone got drawn for some kind of hunt. Well now, my kids are either in school or the military, my dad has passed and my mom has decided since my dad is gone, she no longer has the desire to hunt. So each year, I pick and choose what kind of hunts I am going to apply for, knowing that I don't have many more archery bull hunts left since I am 52 now and with the way the point creep is going. The way things were shaping up this winter as I saw them, I/we decided we would just put in for "meat" hunts this year. Better odds for those of you putting in for early archery hunts!! I could be wrong and it could be a great year, but I will never regret a day chasing elk...no matter what season. I hope to see some pics of monsters from you guys in September. Good luck guys and gals.

Genetics do make big bulls but without food and water they can’t grow big antlers. When a bull that has 380" genetics goes from 360 to 310 to 380, is it genetics that makes him only go 310 in that particular year? If so, i’m still waiting on that year where my genetics make me go from 240lbs to 210lbs without any change in diet.
