7 pointsFullSizeRender.mov My Hunt started on Monday, December 27th I was able to tag out by mid day on a huge ram. We spotted my ram in a herd with 42 other rams early in the morning. We made a plan on how to work close enough to the ram for a shot. When we had hiked about half way to there morning location they had moved towards us. Luckily we were able to spot them before they could see us. After setting up for the shot we had to patiently wait for him to get up from his bed and change his position. Once he did I took my shot. Both horns measure 33inches with 13 inch bases

5 pointsCoues deer are so amazing in so many ways, highs and lows that can only be explained by those in the pursuit. It wasn't the biggest buck on the mountain today, but this buck was the most dominant. I received the rut experience I was after, all under 400 yards. This guy beat the tar out of a 3x3 that was reasonably larger. I've yet to see and shoot a 4x2. With the weather rolling in, I couldn't help but shoot this buck on the stalk to more distant, far away action, and I couldn't be happier with December 2021'

1 pointEvery couple of years I draw my December tag. It’s somthing I look forward to, preparing online maps and comparing previous hunts. I set off in the low country glassing along the way. My dads always been big on not walking past one just to get where you wanna go. But I knew exactly where I wanted to be, as most of us do by now. We know what tags we wanna draw , where we want to hunt and most importantly where those better bucks should be. It was December 12th and it was hot. The clouds we’re starting to form overhead and the wind had picked up, making the sun beating down a little more bearable. About then a small 3x3 had started working across the ridge next to me , exposing himself on a rock out crop he paused and looked back over his shoulder. The big fork showed himself, I could see his crown was tall. I almost immediately made up my mind. Thinking to myself “ are you really gonna shoot a fork?!?! But at 540 yards I could see his main beams coming around the front and his eyegaurds were as good as they were ever gonna be. I set up my phone scope, and dialed my rifle . The wind was picking up, confidence in my gear I settled into my rifle. The buck stopped broadside and I squeezed it off. Jumping to my phone I replayed and confirmed I made a good shot. My bullet had drifted forward, but it was in the shoulder and he was down. I’m awfully proud of the decision I made to take this old buck. I honestly tried talking myself out of it at one point but in the end he’s a trophy like no other I now have! The taxidermist has him at 6-8 years old and he went 93.25. it’s a passion I couldn’t imagine living without, Merry Christmas Coueswhitetail members , Happy New Year and God Bless! IMG_7259.MOV

1 pointWith limited days to hunt this year I decided to try my luck this past weekend on the mountain. The 1st day went alright but all I was seeing is doe's so I decided to switch it up a bit and pack down into another spot. I ended up seeing 4 bucks and Shot this super cool buck with only a day left to hunt. We thunk he busted off his main beam when he was in velvet. He has some pretty cool character and I could be happier.

1 pointWhoa!! Tough tag to draw! Congrats! Hunted it one time with my brother and we got a giant blizzard and never saw a sheep. I don’t think they killed a single one that year. I’ve heard of the giant rams in there though!

1 pointAnd trail cam photos? Rebels running cams on the cabeza, I don’t think you’re supposed to do that

1 pointJust listened to that, I was glad that they brought that point up. I hope that they're able to come to an agreement there's a lot of things that I like about hunting on the ranch that I'd miss / miss when I'm not in 10. Thanks for sharing.

1 pointSo far my hunt has SUCKED!!!! Deer just aren't moving or my areas are void of deer. Can't believe how bad 22 has gotten. Very disappointing!!!! Looks like were gonna get rained in tomorrow as well.

1 pointNice job on those tags. It’s cool that you took advantage of some of the hunting opportunities that are out there outside of the main stream! 😉 I don’t know anything personally about it, but hopefully Dan (Apache7MM), or others will chime in. Let us know how you do!

1 pointI’m going to place about 500 small salt licks (the little brick ones) all over my favorite ridges to hunt. This will surely keep people out of them and if it doesn’t I’ll claim they are being unethical and I’ll come cry about it on CW. At least i know I’ll have a couple guys on my side, one of which is all about crying. The big problem with the bison is a couple people think they own the rights to every spot they frequent. It is absolute lunacy that people (at least one) think that RJ has rights to basically hunt any spot at any time because he kicks out salt blocks. Man, we really are living in strange times. I would love for someone to try to tell me where or how i have to hunt on my once in a lifetime tag.

1 pointno distaste here. I've had good buddies pay him money for buffalo hunts, buddies not pay him to join the co-op and by all accounts he is a great guy. The fact that you can not see the 12a salt situation as a special situation, tells me that you have a bias. Everyone that hunts that hunt or has helped on that hunt see's what Russ has created. The fact that he has so many salts along a fairly small stretch of GC boundary does NOT entitle him and his clients to exclusive hunting rights. It's not like he is doing something revolutionary and everyone is piggy backing off of him. IMO putting a salt site in the middle of BFE and then walking up on hunters at your salt site is bullshit. However, I am sure it happens. The 2nd guy to get to such site has to leave without causing a scene. It is just the right thing to do. Russ has created a situation where the Buffalo literally leave the park for a short time and hit one of his numerous sites. To think that you are not allowed to hunt along his salt line is naive at best. He MIGHT have 2-5 clients each hunt and maybe 2-5 willing to be part of his CO-OP. IF he has all 10 at his sites, that still leaves 50-60 sites available to hunt. To think those sites are off limits is absurd. He has literally conditioned the cattle up there to hit his salts over the last 10 years. This hunt has turned into a real SHHIIITTTT show to say the least and issues like this will continue to arise if he tells his clients to try and make other hunters leave. Just a matter of time before one of them gets in a fist fight. Just because Russ feels like his personal ETHICS trump someone else's, does not mean he gets to rule the 12a/ GC boundary.

1 pointAnyone with any kind of courtesy doesn’t sit someone else’s salt. That’s some low, lazy BS. If this was a whitetail and that happened, they would be roasted. The fact that Chad is trying to profit off the work of another man’s back is stealing plain and simple and it tells me everything I need to know about his character. Zac didn’t need to stay there. He didn’t need to confront that asshole. That should have been Russ. It should have started and finished with the paid professionals who started and prolong this dick measuring contest. The hunter’s were just pawns in their childish rivalry. But that could have gotten real ugly, real fast.

1 pointI had that happen while packing out an aoudad. The fronts came off both boots. All I had was dental floss. Amazingly it held up. Luckily I only had half a mile more to go.

1 pointRuger calls this finish "Case Colored", it simulates case hardened but not very well. They no longer offer it because they had too many problems with it. If you email Ruger's customer service they will offer to refinish it at no charge. I bought a similar Vaquero from a member here a couple of years ago and Ruger refinished it in blue at no cost to me. If I remember correctly they even sent a prepaid mailing label to ship it back to them. The gun came back looking brand new.
