Well my daughter drew her last ever JR deer hunt in 33. Her goal was to fill her tag with any size antlered deer. She and her best friend went out again, hoping to fill their tags just like they did during their recent cow elk hunt. Went out to where I got my deer in Reddington on Friday, just does. Saturday took her to our other go to spot and saw 6 different bucks ( spikes, forks and a really nice 3x) nothing would give us a shot though. Around 4:30 she said let’s start heading back, before we go I told her let’s look at one more canyon. We get set up and start glassing. I look down and just past 3 small hills a solo deer is laying out in the open in the shade. It turns its head and I see a glimpse of bone. I said hey, I got a buck. Her first response “how far”? I ranged it and said 485 yds. Her reply “Can I shoot it”? I said, we didn’t come here for a haircut. She gets set up using her backpack as a rest. I’m behind her with binos and tell her whenever your ready because I got eyes on it. A few seconds go by and lead is sent down range. The bullet clobbers the deer, it jumps up and starts to wobble and shake. It lays down a few feet away, I tell her shoot it again it’s not dead. She puts another one in it and that’s all it took. Two 485 yd shots to fill her tag. Absolutely awesome marksmanship to seal the deal. Due to her birthday, she could only put in 6 times and during her total jr hunts she was able to fill 6 out of six tags, all whitetail. So proud of her.

Good luck everyone. IMO, it can be great hunting or you'd swear there's hardly and elk around in 6A. We hunted for 5 of the 7 days of the bull ML hunt that ended this week (11/12-11/18). All the dues I paid with walking, walking ....and more walking with my smokepole and my longtime buddy Fred so far not paying off. It seemed someone had stirred up the few herds we did see with no good shot to take. They were at a trot to other places. Finally on the last day, yesterday, as we walked up a Jeep trail, God smiled on me. A small herd crossed the trail just 75 yards in front of me just as we were in the shade of a pine tree. The third elk was a 6X6 and I sent a Barnes 290 grain into his lungs. He never took another step but did not go down. Actually, I wasn't completely sure I hit him because he had no reaction, but soon blood started coming out of the wound in his lower chest. I had time to reload and send one more, not 6 inches from the first, and he STILL stood motionless. Tough animal! He finally dropped after a couple of minutes. I will NEVER use another bullet than the Barnes TEZ either 250 or 290 grain bullets. The performance is outstanding. The round we recovered was exactly the same as what was printed on the box the bullets came in. And more good news, We were able to drive right up to him! Quartered at the butcher he was just under 400 pounds.

Could have hit the "no-man's land" just under the spine and above the lungs. Nicked a lung just enough to cause the deer to bleed some and pass out. Deer got his wind back, and boogied out. I have seen that happen before.

Just like to share my 12yo son's recent success! Many months of practicing and scouting paid off on Tuesday. My son took his first archery elk and I couldn't be more proud of him and we made some memories that will last a lifetime. I love my son so much and so happy that everything came together!!!

I’ll be in Unit 27 with Arizona Trophy Outfitters for my bucket list bull elk hunt.

Another one of Bob's stupid comments-

Seems like that Outfitter continues to be associated with conflicts and issues. What a piece of crap. Glad video was posted so people can see what kind of hunt the Buffalo hunt is right now for the DIY hunter and kind of guides working up there. How they still have a guides license is crazy. AZ Game & Fish continue to disappoint and needs to assign a new officer up there.

That is a really nice bull! I killed on that same hunt last year.

It's been a problem for years, hopefully the G&F can do something to resolve it. Until then I will keep putting in for Raymond instead. 3 guides in a small area who all think they own spots mixed with DIY guys is a recipe for disaster. Proof here that the issue wasn't cameras, it's the guides.

You broke this down very well. That guy is a trip. Got humiliated and pulled a gun.

It was his actions of capitalizing off of our state that was villainized. His response to the outcry speaks volumes to his character in my opinion. I’ve hunted with at least half dozen younger and middle aged new hunters over last 10 years who’s priorities were their videographer skills rather than making an ethical shot and not taking a shot unless they could get it on film. In my simple mind, this is a sickness and YouTube hunters will continue to promote our state, not knowing the damage they do!

I don’t feel I villanized Randy in this. I tagged him in all of my posts. I also sent him the letter I sent to the commission and department. But I do think he needs to be accountable for the outcomes of his efforts. In this case I think there is a clear correlation between his promotions and resident otc opportunity.

I wanted to provide an update here… today I was informed by Randy Newberg that he has withdrawn from his contract with AZGFD. This is a tremendous accomplishment by the hunters of Arizona. I know that in recent years it’s been said that it doesn’t matter how much we speak up that no one listens. Well now that has changed. Thanks to everyone who spoke up!

Bare rifle in great condition. I litterally have 4 guys in line if the OP doesn’t take it. You want me to put you down?

I know a guy shot a javelina and they coulnt find entrance or exit. Hung him by gambrels and when they started to open him up he woke up and started squealing and kicking, pissin all over himself. They put one in his head and finished up. Best he figured the projectile grazed the skull and knocked him out.

Man, all the OP wanted to do was share an awesome hunt with everybody. Dam jealous trolls can’t just let the family hunt without shitting all over it. What a bunch of peckerheads we have become.

Sako Vixen, .223, 55 grain Hornady, FoxPro CS-24-C playing Lucky Bird, came in at about the twenty-minute mark, died at about twenty yards from the caller.

He is 4 for 4. And I I’m proud of him. I know how hard it is to stay a young man that just wants to go hunting and not get involved in the numbers game. Especially around me, my friend’s. 100” is the topic when it cames to bucks, at get togethers and casual conversations. I do know how this kid does dream of a 100” deer but when I asked him what is was looking for this yr, his response “ just a 3x3 or a good 2 point”. Those words do make me happy. Here are his 4 coues bucks in four yrs Hope you all enjoy

My little brother (zackcarp) and his wife found this buck. Unfortunately opening day we got the news that our dad had passed away so we left thinking we were done. Fortunately i was able to return with some friends a couple days later and make it happen. I know that I had my dads help getting it done. This buck will be known as my Dads buck from here on. I got my passion for hunting from my dad and am doing my best to pass it on to my daughters.

The only merino unders I own are First Lite and they are excellent garments. No shrink, no stink, nice and comfortable in a wide range of temps.
