So my old man at 77 had never killed an elk. He has some serious mobility issues and drew the Champ tag in 4b. Knowing his limitations, he went in having decided on the first bull he saw. He spotted this guy about five minutes after legal shooting light and the rest is history. Great end to a great hunt and a fun weekend. We are beyond thrilled. My 70 year old mom tagged her first elk this year also. It was pretty magical getting to be there for them both this year. Sorry about the sideways pics

My son now lives in NV and they have a pretty unique tag turn back program. I won’t bore with the details but he was able to grab this late season bull tag. Filled his first bull tag while I was in route to help on the hunt. By the time I got there he had capped and quartered the bull by himself and humped the head and cape off the mountain. Happy to know I taught him a bit. Anyway even though all I go to help with was the meat haul it was a good hike and I couldn’t be happier for him

I have been a firefighter for 27 yrs...I have personally been on 4 of these calls in that time....In EVERY case the individual that got out of his vehicle and approached the other vehicle was the one shot and killed. They all made the choice to be a tough guy and confront the other person and it cost them there life....Stay in your vehicle and drive away.....Or take the chance of getting killed....Not really a hard decision to make....

De-Escalation. Good training is always a good thing. However, some people just have rage issues. Police officers get some of the best training around and from time to time a few may lose their cool and it gets recorded. Some people just can't control themselves, with or without training. Its human nature. No law would have prevented what happened. If you carry a gun and never expect to use it, or let alone that you might have to take someone's life, you might want to rethink why you carry.

Firearms education wouldn't have changed anything! Carry permits wouldn't have changed anything! They both knew that they were in the wrong. The only lesson to learn here is not to let anger displace common sense. Two idiots just learned that lesson. It's sad they had to ruin their lives in the process but at least they only ruined their own lives! Just be glad they didn't crash each other and collect a bunch of innocent people!

12 yrs ago I was on my way to lake mead with my 12 yr old son for a 4 day fishing trip... West bound on carefree highway about 75 ave a small passenger vehicle pulls along side me and the female passenger is hanging out the window and yelling at me....I slow down and roll my window down thinking something is wrong with my boat / trailer....She starts yelling profanities at me and says that my truck kicked up a rock off the road and broke the windshield on her car and that I was gonna pay for it or her boyfriend was gonna kick my butt....I smiled and waved rolled up my window and keep driving....At the light at 99 ave and carefree Hwy they pulled around in front of me sideways blocking me in between them and the truck behind me....The clown driving the car gets out with a baseball bat and puts it over his head and starts yelling he’s gonna kick my butt and wreck my truck...I reached down and pulled my 45 out and placed it on the dash of my truck making sure he could absolutely see it....He turned white as a sheet threw the bat and got back in his car and drove away....Had he come several feet closer to my truck I absolutely would have shot him...I thank god everyday that he didn’t....

Went on our first scouting trip and wanted to post a few pics. I hope to add to it through the hunt.

Huh? I have a handgun in my truck 100% of the time. No matter what laws are in effect, if there is a lunatic running at my truck and doesn’t stop, no matter what the circumstances, he’s probably going to get shot. I guess I want to be alive to defend myself! This is all just the usual noise!!

The guy was Mexican. Read the discussions on Facebook Why would I do that? is there anything more cringe than a liberal crying racism when there’s none to be seen. Your gun control argument was pointless so you go to racism. Liberalism 101

You’re not saying anything specific. what law could they put on the books that would accomplish limiting guns to individuals Racism? Where is the racism in this case? The brown guy murdered the white guy. “This group is not that way and why I enjoy being part of this community“ now what are you talking about? You’re the one talking about racism and gun control like liberal on a hunting website

I've had this kinda thing happen to me twice in the 17 years living here .the first was 16 yrs ago going down the 60 and a guy got mad the lane ended at about mill and tried to pass in the emergency lane and ran outa relastate.as he is behind me he started to hand gesture he's going to shoot me .I dialed the dps and notified them and stated I had a gun in the car .I didn't start to worry till he reached under the seat .I pulled my sig outa the holster and rolled the window down bullets and Windows make a mess .as he pulled up along side me he thru something at the car and then saw the gun and made a quick exit .the dps officers had stopped him and called me to come and I'd him .the officer asked if I had a gun and I said yes he said good holster it and come with me .the guy was in the back of a car and the cop said is that him and I said yep .he told that guy he was lucky I actually had a gun and could have shot him .I signed the paper and pressed charges .no amount of restrictions will fix stupid.I do believe training does good.you absolutely need to understand the law if you pull and use a gun.

You can “limit” firearms all you want. There are so many in circulation that if someone wants a gun, they’ll get a gun. I’m 100% pro 2A. You think a CCW permit is going to make sure a bad guy doesn’t get a gun? The way i see it, the only way to defeat a bad guy with a gun is with another gun.

He is 4 for 4. And I I’m proud of him. I know how hard it is to stay a young man that just wants to go hunting and not get involved in the numbers game. Especially around me, my friend’s. 100” is the topic when it cames to bucks, at get togethers and casual conversations. I do know how this kid does dream of a 100” deer but when I asked him what is was looking for this yr, his response “ just a 3x3 or a good 2 point”. Those words do make me happy. Here are his 4 coues bucks in four yrs Hope you all enjoy

Here we go. Other than my morning constitional at Molino basin. This is the first time I set foot in this unit in years. A couple of hunters decked out in the latest hunting fashion beat me to my escouted spot so I'm improvising

Update- We did wind up on the Bo. As we were heading in to a spot to glass we spotted a group of nice bulls from the truck. Even though he had a CHAMP permit and could have shot from the truck, he got out and put a sneak on them. A cow mew stopped them and he got the big one in the group. He's a nice 5x6 that was pretty busted up from fighting over the ladies. My uncle was happy as could be and never thought he would get a bull close to this big and figured going into the hunt his any elk tag would probably be wrapped around a cow leg. NOT ASKING FOR SPOTS My uncle drew the any elk CHAMP tag in Unit 10. It is his first elk tag ever. It starts the second week of Nov. He is fairly old and has some heart issues. He can get out and move around and do some hiking but is pretty limited and can't do anything too strenuous. I will be taking him to help out and pack out the elk. I have very limited experience in 10. I guess I am just looking for some pointers for him to help him be successful. Is the Boquillas fees worth it? We can road hunt since he has the CHAMP permit but I have never really been successful doing that, but it that probably the best chance at getting an elk? I am thinking a combination of road hunting, glassing from some easily accessible spots and sitting water mid-day. Thanks for any advice.

Just wanted to get an update out on this trip. Just got back home. Saw over 60 deer on this trip including 4 bucks. One was a 3x4 but couldnt get a shot. Saw a huge 7 point elk with the other antler broken off the main beam. Saw lots of yotes, pronghorn, and even 2 moutain lions. Went 0-2 on tags. I didn't have any issues with other hunters being crowded. Very fun just couldnt get a deer to take a dirt nap! If you need any info on the late elk hunts in unit 9 PM me! I have found some good spots/sanctuaries

My 2 kids and my sons best friend all had 12awest early rifle tags. My sons friend only had 3 days to hunt and my 2 kids had the whole hunt off. We had opportunities at some really big bucks but due to the thick conditions in the oak transition where we were seeing them it was hard to get shots at them. Since my sons friend only had 3 days to hunt due to school at NAU he passed multiple bucks and finally decided to take a small bladed 4x5 on Sunday. We checked that deer in and by Sunday evening only 17 deer had been checked in. Come Monday morning We see a buck in the oaks and we can only make out antlers and we know 1 side had 4 points. My son looks at him for a while and decides to shoot we hear the hit and he goes crashing down the draw. We give him some time and get down to him and he is a decent 4x3. He was very happy and then expresses he thinks he shot to early cause he had 5 more days to hunt. We told him it was a beautiful buck and although he has shot bigger mule deer he should be happy due to the tough conditions and he agreed. Now on to trying to fill my daughter's tag. Let me just say I am very proud of her. She wanted a buck with 4 points. She probably passed 20 bucks from spikes to 3x3. Thursday morning we had a 200 plus inch buck with trash at 90yds and it was so thick she Couldn't shoot him. I was so bummed and she said dad I'm just glad we got to lay eyes on a deer that big she said that made my whole trip even If I don't fill my tag. The rest of the hunt we hunted hard for her and she never got another opportunity. She said I didn't lose any points on this hunt and I wanted a big one and I held out and I'm ok with eating tag soup. I'm so proud of her. I have hunted kaibab for 30 years and trust me it was tough for kaibab. But the most importantly we went 2 out of 3 and it's all about the experience and the memories. Just being in the kaibab is magical even if you don't kill a big one or fill all your tags.
