Well just got back from my kiddos hunt and let me tell you what a hunt/memory maker it was. From day 1 until this morning was non-stop action. We had the 6A/5BS jr hunt and stayed in 6A the entire time. Day 1: Got some tips from a buddy of mine from their archery bull hunt 2 weeks earlier and it was crazy. The bulls were still bugling so it made it real easy to get started. We got on about 25 cows and a couple of bulls going crazy. Got close but the forest was too thick to actually send lead. That evening went to the same spot and got on more bugling bulls which had cows. My daughter had a shot but missed, then the sky opened up and poured on us. We high-tailed it back to the truck only to get a text from her good friend who shot one at 5:27. They sent us coordinates so we could lend a hand. We used OnX but only to find out that the road was nonexistent. We started walking about 6:10, we got to them at 7:00 and it was pitch black. Helped finish quartering and started back, we had 6 pillow cases filled. Could only get 4 of them back to the truck so me and the other dad went back for the other two. The girls were spent so we left them at the truck with 2 pistols just in case. We left the truck at 8:20 and got back to the kill spot at 9:30. Let me tell you walking at night with only headlights and a handheld light you get some effed up thoughts run through your mind. Well we made it back to the truck at 10:15. The ride back to camp never felt so good. Day 2: Got up around 7 due to the previous night, headed out in two trucks and within 10 minutes see a huge herd cross the road in front of us. We park and go after them. Two hours later no sign of any elk. Kids are griping that they are hungry so we go back empty handed. A buddy of mine who joined us for the hunt recommended we walk out of camp and give it a whirl. As soon as we crest the hill 20 cow go running buy, my son couldn’t retrieve his gun from his scabbard in time to get a shot off. My daughter and I run back down the hill to get in the truck and try to head them off at the road. We hike up the hill and see nothing, but we hear a bugle not to far off. As we head closer my daughter says” dad…elk “, well it was a massive 6x6 bull all alone screaming. It eventually lays down about 40 yds in front of us. We both almost in sync say “ I wish I had a bull tag” she giggles and mutter an expletive. We decide to back out and go around and as we do my daughter says look dad more elk, well the previous herd had doubled back and we’re going back the same direction the came from. A lone cow stops about 110 yds away and that’s all it took. Cow drops and the herd takes off. As we are walking up we hear another shot, to find out my boy had taken a shot and hit one but couldn’t recover it after about 1 hr track of a tiny blood trail. We all help out and get this cow quartered and back to camp and off to Casey’s for butchering. Day 3: Headed back right outside of camp again and got back on the herd again, but couldn’t get a shot off. The boy wanted a change of scenery so we went to Upper Lake Mary to do some fishing. No fish were caught, but it was a beautiful day to drown some worms. Got back to camp and did an evening hunt only to turn up empty handed. I could tell the boy was getting tired and frustrated and time wasn’t on our side for many other excursions. Day 4: Left again just outside of camp and immediately got on 2 bulls, we followed them only to turn up empty handed. Got back to camp and it was getting really windy so the next 3 hours were playing poker (Omaha, Texas, 3 card and screw your neighbor) the kiddos really liked this. We ended up going into Flagstaff for dinner, this was a nice change of pace. When we got back to camp, just in time it started to rain and rain and later to find out snow all night. This morning was quite a shock, needless to say we weren’t going in this and packed everything up and headed back. Two out of 3 tags filled……not too shabby.

Last year Nash got straight A’s the entire year. As a reward we decided to go hunt antelope in WY. We didn’t have a lot of points so we had to hunt a unit with very limited public land and boy were the bucks skittish. Last night after a one mile stalk via an irrigation ditch this buck decided to go on a runabout and stopped at 150 to get a look at us. Nash made an excellent quartering towards us shot and the rest is history.

Should I be ashamed I am thinking of putting a S&B 1-8x24 Short Dot CC on an AR? Or the NF ATACR 1-8x24 F1? At the very low end, maybe a Vortex Razor Gen III 1-10x24? Plus a Red Dot on the 45* right side. Yes, I have a problem.

Contrary to these coues deer hunting charlatans, mature desert mule deer are much smarter and harder to find. Especially in the central AZ units

I guess this could be a good thing. I always thought sighting in a gun was one of the fundamental things you must know if you plan on any serious shooting. One step below this and you’re better off renting a gun if that’s the effort and respect you have for guns. I hope whoever does this is not doing it out of laziness and actually watches and learns something. I would be totally ok with that. I am one that loves guns and accumulate hordes of items devoted to making me better. Things like scope leveling and mounting tools and reloading items that can fill up this page. Some of those items I have two or more of because it makes sense to me to have more than one wrench or other measuring tool when more than one allows for better cross checks and consistency. It’s taken me a lifetime to get everything and I don’t think I’m close to done yet. I learned recently that not everyone has that passion and aren’t interested in going that far with firearms. As difficult as it is to see something like this, I have to not let it bug me.

Along that line of questioning. I was at sams club today and across the parking lot there was a 20 car line for the free tire air pressure check and top off station. Lol. 20 car line. Couldn’t believe it. Wondering how long they waited to get their pressure checked and topped off.

Great videos!! Have also watched a few of your videos in the past. I do wish your az videos didn't show so much background. YouTube has caused a flood of people intruding on once sacred and secret places in this state. Not trying to offend you in any way.

Dang, that would be such a deal if they provide the ammo and clean the gun afterwards!!!

Some old widow on the edge of town is still telling stories about the night some hunter stumbled into her house, sat down at her kitchen counter, and started ordering shots.

Not sure about shooting....but you can legally glass from neighboring unit into yours. If it came down to technicalities..... You have a hunting license and can legally take coyotes in any unit, regardless of where your deer tag is.

And where does that water thing come from? Hope you never go duck or dove hunting! In 34B/35A, the best place to glass from is the tall hill in 34B into 35B. Is that considered hunting in the wrong unit? Well the same WM that would consider driving closer to antelope you spotted with your 20x binos from over 2 miles away as road hunting would consider this as hunting in the wrong unit. MOST would say it was OK, NOW SHOOTING in this case would obviously be illegal since you would be shooting across a well defined roadway. For your case, you act disrespectfully to the WM, you might get a ticket for spite and get to work it out in court if you want to take it that far. And who knows how that may work out? This one is certainly a gray area.

The wolves will next turn their attention on solving world peace, famine and climate change, all while finding a new hairstyle for Kim Jong-Un.

Well, we hiked 9 miles. Only saw a couple young bucks. I found 3 drop antlers and my brother in law scored on a giant bighorn ram dead head. We eliminated a lot of country and scratched an itch I’ve had for awhile. On to the next.

I've heard people say this unit sucks and it's been over hunted and it's too crowded etc. I drew the late season archery tag and have been scouting all summer and fall. I spent this past saturday watching 10-12 bulls in one area. If you know what to look for, it's pretty unreal. You also don't need to be able to shoot 400 yds. if you can get in close, and you don't need to spend a fortune on optics. Vortex diamondback 10x50's on a 100$ tripod found a pile of bulls for me.

I mean I've never had a problem killing coyotes inside 10 yards or so with the scope set at the minimum setting. Although for close quarters I do prefer the shotty.
