I owned an 07 with the V8. It was my wife’s grocery getter and we loved it. She just wanted to go bigger so we moved to a Sequoia. I’ve also owned 2 Sequoia’s with the same motor As the 4runner V8. Biggest thing is to make sure the timing belt has been changed. They recommend changing it every 100k miles. They are super reliable. If it hasn’t been done it will cost you around $1,000 to have a shop do it or about $300 if you do it yourself. The downside to the V8 4runner is that it is all time AWD. I did not modify the suspension on my 07 but I have put lifts on a 97 4runner, a 2014 4runner, a 2007 sequoia and my most recent rig is an 02 4runner. They are all very similar and pretty easy to do if you stay under a 3” lift. Lots of info on the inter web. I trailer my 4runner just like it’s a side by side. I absolutely love it.

Small Game is open on San Carlos today through Feb 6, 2022. Quail outlook is good even with the large fires over the summer. Road conditions are very poor after the heavy rains and I would definitely recommend high clearance and an extra spare tire for those traveling further away from the main roads. Temps have been cooling down nicely but I would still be prepared to cross a snake or two while out and about. Dove is also open through the end of the year for those who aren't aware. Permits are available at the far east Circle K in Globe, Apache Gold Chevron in Cutter, and the Department office in Peridot. Regarding Covid19 on the Rez, face masks are required before entering any business or store but that's about it, no longer required to show proof of vaccination. DAN

It's a rush...I've called a few in..this one I glassed across a small canyon and called him right in. You can see the saliva dripping. Years ago I shot one in the chest with my .45 Kimber at 10-12 feet. Died in 20 seconds. Shot a lion with the same handgun at 6ft Coming out of a tree...Nothing quite like it that I've experienced..

I’m buying a 4runner in the near future and would like to real world feedback from prior or current owners. I am particularly interested in the 2006-09 with the V8 motor. What was the reliability like with proper maintenance? Any issues to be aware of when demoing the vehicle? Anybody have one where they modified the suspension? I will be driving over 2k a month and want reliability and the ability to take it hunting also. Let’s here your experiences. David

Order a large kydex, laminate counter or cutting board and use that as bottom. Or kydex big enough to heat gun and mold to the outline of the frame. If just needing for bottom of the laminate or kydex. Run a piece of rubber or hose glued around edge to keep sharp edge on material soft.

Honestly not worried about weight. I don’t have a soft case, just seen my uncle go through about 5 of them over the years and I’d like something that protects the stove and knobs better on nasty bumpy roads and is more stackable. That’s what prompted me to look for something more rigid.

I have a Hatch Bipod and carry a small bean bag in pack for toe of buttstock. I practiced a lot with that set up prior to my sheep hunt, ended up making kill shot at 179 with rifle resting on foam seat pad over a rock rest, go figure.

Hunt was amazing, 16 days in the wall tent. Crazy rut went off the first week or so. Big bulls , bears, bobcats, tons of deer, turkeys. Had so many encounters I can’t even keep them straight. Pull my arrows out at least 20 times and full draw 4 times. In the end I shot a good bull in the shoulder and spent 3 or 4 days looking for him. Pretty much ended the hunt with a broken heart. Got the whole thing on film Don’t know what else to say, everything I could have asked for just missed the shot by a few inches. Never found the bull or arrow and am pretty sure he’s off running around somewhere. Tracked him off into some of the nastiest country I’ve ever been in. Stuff I would never even consider had we not been after him to get closure. Amazing weather and food. My wife stayed with me the entire trip. I forgot for like 3 days I even had a house or job. Mules got to graze on mountain grass every day. Learned a ton every day. Too bad it’s probably my last early tag. Time to beg to go on everyone else’s hunts. 12 years is a long wait.

I was in unit 9 for a turkey hunt/deer scouting and the rut was going good still. Called a few bulls into my camp during the night. That was fun. Then I caught this big ole 5 point walk into 15 yards to drink water. Buggest elk I ever seen. His backs alone seemed to be over 18 inches. He walked away then I heard him do a few bugles

In regards to the original post, my daughter and I are getting ready for her hunt in 5A. She's 17 and this is her last youth elk hunt. We did a lot of looking around when and where we could this summer between rain storms. Last week's scouting trip was canceled due to truck problems. We will probably camp in the vicinity of Blue Ridge res. Older chevy 3/4 and a new Kodiak Tent! Swing by if in the area!

I use front bipod, rear bag for prone LR shooting. Bipod and build a good rear rest with what you have for hunting. Stump, rocks, jacket, pack, Gatorade bottle, log, shooting sticks, whatever is steady. I have 5 Harris bipods. From prone to sitting.
