We had alot of fun while chasing the September Bugles. It was tough for finding big bulls this year however, with the drought during horn growth season. We passed on many herd bulls trying to find something better. We shot the biggest bull we saw, a bull I saw while scouting, minus one tine, on the 4th day of hunting, which happens to be our shared birthday! Getting in position and the final sequence and realization of the accomplishment will be quite the memory for the rest of our lives. My wife and daughter are better shots than myself and most men for some reason. Maybe because they care just a little bit less and that allows them to focus on the task better?

In his original post, Scotty27 asked to be pointed in a general direction. He didn't ask anyone to reveal their 'honey hole' or 'secret place'. My grandpa taught me to hunt and a few things have stuck with me. He said (paraphrase) hunting is not about antlers or horns. It's about creating memories and building relationships. He must have been right, because the relationship he built with me has lasted through the years. He passed 48 years ago - and those memories of him still bring a smile to my face. For most of us, this website has provided us with a platform to discuss our passion and learn to become better hunters. But the real benefit, at least for me, has been the number of great men and women I have met here (yes Amanda, this includes you). At this point, many have become my friends. I do not have a clue, nor do I care, what their religious beliefs are. These are amazing people that I would never have met had it not been for coueswhitetail.com My life is richer. For me, the big takeaway from Scotty27's post was that this young man was excited about going hunting with his dad. That told me all I needed to know about him. Some people collect antlers. Other people collect friends. Welcome aboard Scotty27. I hope you stick around. There are lots of great people on here. Just give it some time and they will rise to the surface.

Got my first rifle coues hunt this month. I got this buck on camera once over salt. I've set up more cameras up and down this wash hoping to get him again soon. He is in low desert, so I've got a few hills picked out to glass the ocotillo from. If I can't find him, I'll head up to some higher country where the coues bucks are a little bit more dense.

Actually he just stated he returned from a mission, there was no mention of his religion. Therefore the individual assumed his religion and began to bash it. There is no room for that on what is supposed to be a friendly sportsman’s website. All other points were valid about sharing spots but the line was crossed, otherwise wearing a cross or having a fish in your car would entitle the masses to judge and criticize everyone’s religious beliefs. Last statement from me, we are supposed to be a friendly sportsman community.

Shot this guy on opening morning. Spent a few days scouting before my hunt to find some elk to get into and i found a few. Spent most my time scout for wifes 3a3c tag. Opening mor ing I Come up a small hill to look in a meadow and across it i see this guy chasing a cow all over. One cow call and the cow heard it and came running and the bull was right behind. They came into 20 yards searching and after a few seconds of not seeing anything turned to walk away and I stopped him at 40 yards and shot him. He ran 50 yards and died. Shot him with a rage. I know people give that broadhead a bad review but they have never let me down and always leave huge holes.. been up in 3a3c with the wife ever sense trying to fill her tag. Seen plenty of bulls and have had a opportunity everyday and passed on a ton of bulls. Last night she missed. this morning put an arrow over the back of one. Hope it pans out she is getting discouraged. sorry for the sideways pics from on the phone in the woods. I am happy i could send it.

Ive been putting in my wife for about 5 years in Wyoming for Antelope. We finally got drawn in an area where Ive hunted before. She has dealt with my hunting for years. I told her Ive been putting her in. She said ok to it. So game on! Once she got drawn I had her at the range practicing shooting. Make the long drive up to Denver CO where my brother lives. Leave by 3 am the next morning and she is wiped out. Anyone that knows how to flip the pic please do. The next day we get there by 8am or so. Saw tons of bucks on the side of the road. Once we got into our unit they disappear. The only time we saw bucks and antelope was either on the other unit north of us or on private. Once I get to a high point I get out and glass. I glassed up some does and keep looking for a buck. I finial find him. Man he looks good. I range him at 1260 yards. If he looks good at that distance he is a shooter for sure. We make a plan to stalk. We go around and close the distance at 650 yards but if we lay down for a prone position the next hill will block our view. So no choice to make it 200 yards to the next hill. We get to 450 yards and him and all the does are staring at us. Once I point out the buck to my wife where the buck is at all of them take off. We are busted!!!!! We go after them but no luck. A mile back to the truck and the wife is getting flustered. Make it back to the truck so we can take the road to that bucks location. On the way there we spot another lone buck by himself and keep driving out of sight and then get out. We get to a shooting position and range him at 450 yards. I dial the scope and she gets set up. Mean while she is fluster trying to get set up. We haven't trained enough for different positions so she was getting upset. Once she said I see him of course he starts to run off. He keeps going well past 700 yards and over the hill. So we take the next road that goes that direction. No luck and we couldn't find him. Sad he was sooooo big.. But the wife is getting fluster and I realize we need to take every opportunity we can get. So we take the next road after him which was a 2 track road. We make it to the end of the 2 track and I spot another buck while in the truck. Im 1/4 turned from the buck and put my binos on the steering wheel. I can tell he is an ok buck and range him at 510 yards. I tell my wife I cant get out or he will see me get out. He is looking right at us. I told the wife to get out on her side and I adjusted the MOA on the scope before hand. She gets out and she is having problems left and right. She finally found him and got set up. I can see her finger reach the trigger and once I saw that I hurry up and put my binos on the steering (boooooom!!!!!) wheel. It caught me off guard. I quickly try to look and no buck running. She said did I get him? I responded Im not sure. I didnt see him run off. I asked how did your shot feel? She responded it felt really good. Well you probably got him them. We hiked up to him and 100 yards away i could see fur and horns. Ha ha ha!!! I was so excited for her. But she didn't get the rush because she was so fluster with scope and trying to find him. But nonetheless she got him!!! 510 yards one shot IMG-1920.MOV

azsugarbear, very well said and Scotty27 welcome to the site. I wish I had good knowledge of 33 even though I live in Tucson but I've never really hunted it. Hope the others here can point you in the right direction. Best of luck this fall to both you and your dad!

Hey man, a line was crossed today and you didn’t deserve that! That said, when hunters are asked to possibly give up spots that they’ve taken years or decades to figure out, they can get a little edgy, especially with our hunting areas shrinking due to more hunters. Game and Fish regs do give good general starting points and with a couple scouting trips, you should be able to figure it out. Good luck to you and your dad!

Thanks for asking. We got into elk almost every day of our 12 day hunt. Unfortunately, she only has a 45 yard bow range, and we had bulls at 60 - 75 yards on a few different occasions. Had some cows in closer between 30 - 50 yards. Lots of bugling, but mainly at dark, just before dark, and just after sunrise. They shut down during the day. She had bugling elk coming in a few mornings and a couple of evenings. So, a lot of encounters, and excitement, but she never got to shoot. It was an awesome hunt nonetheless. We have a YouTube Channel called Catch n' Dinner. We'll be editing the footage from the hunt and posting soon if you want to check it out. My CO archery bull hunt is up already. Harvested a nice 5 x 5 just before we left for Arizona. Here's a link to the video.

We actually have 3 jr tags to fill, my two kiddos (son-has only killed 1 deer and daughter-has killed 5 deer and 1 cow)and my daughters best friend who hadn’t filled any tags yet. So the plan is daughters friend first, followed by my son then my daughter. Like you said, being there and watching them is an absolute blast and memory maker. Reminds me of when I was there age with my dad. Rifles are dialed in out to 500yds, but hoping to get within 100 yds or less. This was my daughters 80yd shot same unit 3 yrs ago.

Rut was good. Probably the best opening weekend in the years I have been hunting there. There wasn’t a day we didn’t get within 100 yards of a bull. We filled 3 of 4 tags, a 270 5x5, 310 6x6, and a 330 6x7. Bases were 9” on the 310 and 10” on the 330. It was a good year.

Well after 10 days of huntin my a$$ off and putting in 70 + miles hiking up a1 almost every morning and wing mt. I finally got it done! Not the biggest bull but I’m not complaining it’ll def feel the freezer!! Had a dozen plus encounters but never could get a clean shot off saw some dandy bulls! 2 nights ago I where I ended up shooting this spike I saw the biggest bull I’ve ever seen a huge 7x7 with about 12 cows. I got in on them and was about 30 yds from the cows and the bull was up about another 20-40 yards perfectly broadside but it was about 640 and just perfect to where I wasn’t able to get him ranged and didn’t want to guess. It took a lot to make the more ethical choice and pass for the fear of wounding it and not recovering. last night went back looking for him and saw this guy bedded up snuck in as quietly as possible and got to about 40 yard and he was bedded in a triangle of trees so I didn’t have a good shot he heard me or saw me and got up walked out a little to a clearing at 37 yds so I drew back behind the tree I was standing behind waiting for him to walk out… he wasn’t walking head I held back for a good 45 second to a minute and a half and said screw it and side stepped Twice to the edge of the tree and let it fly. It was perfect height just a hair lower than mid body but come to find out I was right and hit the jugular vane. Sat and watched it spit up tons of blood the bedded and got up again barely walked 50 yds over a ridge and heard it crash! Super stoked on my first archery elk 11m is a tough tag there’s lots of elk but they’re def call shy except on A1 pretty awesome getting my father in law into a bugle fest and the experience of hunting elk in September. They’re truly a majestic animal and I’m thankful to get to chase em

Sorry just saw this. Bugling has been very very sparse, mostly early morning contact bugles, but not much else. I was able to get this guy yesterday morning cow calling, which called another cow in to me that he was chasing.

Listen man, I get why people get upset but you're misrepresenting my original post. I was asking for general areas like "the rim". Not really a reason for anyone to get upset. You're really stretching to make "Mike" seem like he was trying to help me out. He's another dude who wants to put down people that are trying to learn the ropes. I can't stand that kind of attitude, it's why people don't get into hunting, and it makes hunters look bad. He's the last dude I want to meet on the trail or in the woods. "Watch videos and listen to podcasts", yeah thanks dude, like I'm not already doing that all the time. I won't be back. Plenty of other forums without losers like that guy.

ADOT spent a lot of money building a animal bridge over Catalina highway so the whitetail in the 33 could go into 37a.
