8 pointsBack from the trip. Booked https://cobaltsportfishing.com/. We met the boat at Fisherman's Landing. Captain Ted introduced us to the crew and fist thing gave a safety speech. Here is the boat, AED, First Aid, fire ext, man over board etc... First 6 pack that did all that, was very comforting. Boat was very clean and had a mini fridge for drinks, Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Sparkling canned water, bottled water. Nice assortment of chips, cookies, mini chocolate candy, beef jerky, trail mix, and granola bars. Coffee was on about 5:30am and had assortment of muffins and fruit. Breakfast was an egg dish with potatoes, sausage, cheese etc.. eat it in a burrito or a cup. Was really good. Lunch was sandwich turkey, cheese, bacon, sprouts, ham on a large croissant. Came with an apple, potato salad and an 2 pack Oreo cookie. Presented in a boxed lunch style. Bunks were clean and well they are boat bunks. We talked options on the way to bait, ie., what he and the fleet were seeing, options etc... We decided to head down just past Ensenada. Got some killer bait at the barge and headed south. On the way down, ran into thunderstorms with rain, thunder and some very cool lighting. We woke up on the grounds and started the morning out trolling and looking for fish. Picked up a Yellowtail on the troll on a small piece of kelp, ended up fishing it and pulled out a few good sized YT. Kept fishing and looking for the bluefin tuna, very elusive. We kept looking for BFT but found more kelp paddies and fished them and would get some good sized YT. The hunt for the BFT was on and ended up getting a smaller YT on the troll. We found a kelp paddy the size of a 2.5 sized garage door and fished it with all we had, ended up killing the YT and had so much on deck it was a bloody deck and had to setp over and around fish. The crew had a hard time keeping up. We chased the BFT 3 different times, each time they would sink out from under us. We fished them and saw boils and tried to keep them around, but no luck. Our last BF stop was on a large breezer and we ended up with 1 20 lb BFT, the guy used 20 lb line and took him about 30 minutes to bring it on deck. There was like 9 fleet boats down with us and it was funny watching these larger boats chase the BFTs, it looked like an orchestrated circus. We ended up with 1 BFT and a full limit of YT, we ended up with some good sized YT, broke off some fat ones too. This boat and crew was stellar and top notch. We had a new guy that never fished ocean before, and they helped him out. The crew kept the deck clean between having lines out and was helpful each stop we made and worked their buts off. We had the owner (Capt Ted), Capt Lonnie and Trey the deckhand all helping us and had had hard time keeping up. They were on top of their game. The trip was an overnight 8pm to 8pm, they change up food options to keep it interesting. Food was great. I would recommend this 6 pack charter!

3 pointsAs a fellow North Dakotan, I would hire a guide. As much as I love DIY stuff this tag is that incredible and it’s tough to cover the country you need to in there from 1500 miles away.
-
3 pointsI should be using them on these collared dove. That would be legal.
-
2 pointsThe bow has 3 bunks, master has double/queen and above that a single. A single bunk just outside master. Sleeps 6, 6 bunks, you could do 7 in the double/queen ie GF/Wife. We all had beds, the crew sleeps on the bridge. No sashimi / sushi on way back, crew cleaned, we slept. They other guys drove home (So Cal), I stayed the night, too tired to drive back to AZ.

2 pointsThanks for all the replies. I have talked to the ranch manager in previous years and he was super helpful with the questions I had. I will definitely be contacting him again. I had 35 points. taken a long time to draw a tag. Obviously not the luckiest guy in the draws. Looking forward to having the meat. I will definitely go out there and check it out prior.

2 pointsEdge is saying that the ring neck ( Eurasian dove) are not a game bird or are pack rats so you can shoot away. Not regulated by azgfd. And wasn't saying you were harsh it was Biggy Tubs
-
2 pointsGet one with an ecoboost. 3.5L ecoboost is fast becoming the best gas motor Ford ever built. Mine goes like scalded cat.
-
2 pointsYou have to be 60+ to own one and never take it off road. Seems that way at least.
-
2 pointsI’d suggest maybe going just a little further south, maybe 70-75 miles from Tucson. A lot less pressure.
-
2 pointsAs you listed in your areas of interest “Saguaro National Park” I’d definitely focus on that. Best opportunity for hitting the rut in the time frame you’re working with. Just make sure to stay within the boundaries of the Saguaro National Park not outside of them. AZGFD watch that outside area surrounding pretty hard.

1 pointHave a box of cci br2 primers and thought about offering them up for trade for a box standard lrp and one box of spp. Is this unrealistic trade?

1 pointKnothead, you need to think about what you just said. They could of just shut it down during a hunt where you held a tag or a guide has a client. It is pure Enjoyment that yes some have abused but now all must suffer. Next its Fish finders , then rangefinding Binos that gps where your game is. And long range muzzleloaders and Radios and cell phones . Little by little they take away privileges until your completely dependent on the State for answers of whats right and wrong. AZFGD states In many situations, Fair Chase is not something that is enforceable by law. Rather it should be guided by each person’s own ethical compass, which compels them to do the right thing when no one else is watching—even when doing the wrong thing is legal. This is on their own website. This is a Movement by a commission that gags at gnats and swallows camels! Wake up you tone Deaf Hunters. Where do you draw the line? Go read their reasons for banning its not even justifiable. They are grasping for straws. Its crazy and all only opinion based.

1 pointDaughter just got into her portal, 1st time putting in , for the last 6 yrs, and she pulls a 23 late whitetail tag. Lucky lady
-
1 pointYep, report, report, report, and let’s make sure the game and fish is enforcing the laws they create. I suggest emailing every commissioner as well when you see a camera you suspect is being use to aid in the take of wildlife. Hold the G&F accountable for the circus they create with their new law!!!!
-
1 pointthe only people who like this law are a few of the dyed in the wool guides on the strip who have a competitive advantage now without cams, and once a year warriors around the state who have a misconception of how cams work
-
1 pointHow do you know the cameras are there to “aid in the take of wildlife”. Maybe they are simply a birdwatchers camera? Or a high school students science project? Or perhaps a rancher is doing research on wildlife usage? I wouldn’t recommend vandalizing something that doesn’t belong to you.

1 pointI'm not saying I like it. I think Newberg has been hunting AZ for years way before he got so popular. Not so many years ago AZGFD had whitetail tags and thousands of javelina tags go unsold in the southern units even in the leftover pass. There's a reason why the AZGFD changed the bag limit on javelina. From a biological standpoint and a financial standpoint these unsold tags aren't good news. AZGFD starts thinking of ways to promote hunting in the state and in comes Randy Newberg. I'm not saying he is solely responsible but he was certainly one of the first ones I seen promoting how awesome the hunting in AZ is. He started promoting how there were all these leftover tags and how once they go to leftovers there is now no 10% cap on NR. And the ball just started rolling from there. My guess is the AZGFD seen in instant return on their investment. No Randy isn't getting special tags or any favors he's just a very smart dude that has figured out how to hunt all over the country and get somebody else to fit the bill and the AZGFD marketing team found the right guy at the right price to see a nice return on their investments. Does it suck that there are no more leftovers and those hunts are now getting harder to get? Sure it does but you can't blame the AZGFD for trying to do something to turn the tide on all the unused tags that weren't being utilized.
-
1 pointI did not read all of this long thread but can I assume that you all are saying that the AZGFD is paying someone to use cameras to assist in the take of wildlife? Is it fair chase to look at video's before going hunting? LOL
-
1 pointI can't understand how somebody could not think paying out of state hunting cerliberties to come and Hunt our state is not wrong.
-
1 pointWhen does the chasing of Gold coins stop and hunting heritage take form. I pose the question. Gf has had banner years for revenue. When is it enough? When do they say.. we made enough off of the record number of app fees this year combined with the astounding non resident recruitment. Do we need to auction tags? Do we need the super raffle? Eventually the revnue has to be that of in excessive amount. Last question. Why are we paying for advertisement when ever tank is bone dry. Seems funds could be allocated better especially in dry years. I'll see myself out
-
1 pointThe irony of it all is that if the intention was hunter recruitment - by making it harder for a resident to draw a tag (or bowhunt in December) you're actually limiting new hunters and making it a $$$ past time to get into if you expect them to travel out of state to go hunting. It's discouraging for a new hunter to have less opportunity or to have to explain to them you may have to travel out of state to get the same opportunity that was once afforded here. So instead of creating new hunters we are only pulling from the same nationwide base of older hunters than can afford to travel around the country.
