1 pointWell it's that time of year again. If you're anything like me you spend most of your time thinking about the up coming draw. Looking over old pics and videos reliving past hunts. Staying up searching for new potential honey holes on Google Earth. Trying to figure out where to put in for ect ect.... I love it! It's also that time of year when I like to make youtube videos and share them with my fellow coues nuts on CW.COM. I just finished putting together a video of my cousin's 2020 Dec hunt where he got his biggest buck to date this beautiful 4x5. The hunt started off slow with us being fogged in most of the morning. It wasn't until around 10am the fog would finally start lifting. Shortly after the fog clearing we found his buck about a mile out feeding with another buck. We watch him for awhile trying to figure out if he was a opening day shooter or not. To be honest I was hoping my cousin wouldn't want to go after him not because I didn't think he was a good buck but because I didn't want to be done hunting so early. After about an hour the bucks ended up dropping down in a small canyon out of sight. Not knowing exactly where they went we knew our chances of relocating the buck was not very good but we still decided to go after him. So we packed up and a couple hours later we found ourselves overlooking the canyon where we last saw the buck. We spent the next 3 hours taking apart the canyon with little luck. Only finding 4 or 5 does and one small buck. We did glass up a 4 point shed which we later found out was from this buck which was pretty cool. Anyways just when I thought we weren't going to relocate the buck Dallas turned him up across the canyon at about 300 yards and the rest is history. Video link should be below check it out if you got the time. Apparently it's not as good as I thought because the last time I checked it already had one dislike with only 10 views. Let me know what you think. Is this video really worthy of a thumbs down or did a vegan just happen to stumble across it? Thanks!

1 pointI don't shoot ARs, but maybe folks typically full length size those? That would reduce their life. I reload only for bolt actions- and do not full length size those once they are fire formed for my particular rifle, which increases brass life.

1 pointI decided to check some gear for the upcoming trips and wow was it disappointing. My 2 year old 80# and 100# Power Pro braid will not lift 50lbs even after getting it wet.. Tried the Palomar, modified Palomar, Uni, Modified Uni and my favorite, the San Diego Jam knots.. Tried braid to mono knots and the braid broke every time vs 80# mono. (Didn't test the FG as I already decided to go buy new line before tying that silly thing.) Then decided to check the mono alone and had the failure below that I was not expecting. I was testing using this spare rig from a 250 Flatfall (Shimano, not a knockoff). It is likely last years but at the most it's two years old. It failed at about 60lbs. Shimano states it is 250# braid on that size jig. I have always changed out the hooks on my jigs when the 100# BFT are possible but always figured it would be the hooks, not the braid that failed. All line and gear is stored in the house so they didn't cook out in the garage at all. I heard there was a LOT of counterfeit Power Pro out there and that is specifically why I purchased it from Bass Pro back then. Don't know the reason why but it's not holding up now but I get to spend another chunk of money on new string.. Probably hit Phx Fishing and let them load up all my reels. Much better to find out now than after losing a good tuna. Check that gear and tight lines!!

1 pointI been loading the same brass in 22-250-300 win mag and a ton of stuff in the middle since the early 80's. Safely say my 300 winmag brass has been shot more than 10 times. the 243 22-250 and 220swft brass easy over 10 times. when I go through a batch I maybe throw away 5-10 cases of each cal thats it. all the small stuff 22-250-243 I have 2-3k rounds of each. the 300 winmag 800-1k rounds never anneled only trimmed and fl resized. but the 223 brass which I have 5k rounds of brass for doesnt last very long, probably because most it is new stuff. the PMC stuff lasts for ever and the older brass does, but the newer last 10 years brass of the .223 doesnt last more than 5 reloads I think because its out of ar's, lots of stretching. my 308 Springfield Amory M1A1 same deal 5-6 loads but the bolt guns last forever on older brass

1 pointI have been fishing Tenkara style rods for over five years. I have caught, trout, bass, bluegill and tilapia. A very simplistic and effective way to catch fish. My neighbor was out with his about two weeks ago and he was the only catching trout in the stream he was at. He was able to get a better drift of his fly. It gave him more control.

1 pointWhy not go down to just three choices instead of 5 if the 3-5 pass is going to be "gone" in the future anyway?

1 pointThose numbers can be kind of misleading though. Some residents grab a tag just to have in their pocket and go out for maybe a day or two. Many don't actually hunt January either because then you can't put in for rifle hunts in the fall. I would venture a guess that 90% of those Non-Res guys are here in Dec/Jan. This is anecdotal though... so maybe I'm wrong. That's just been my experience with people I know well.
-
1 pointAt this rate, they’re all probably residents now.. lol Anyway, I do like the idea of non-res draw or atleast non-res cap for otc
-
1 pointWhy instead of punishing all residents can’t we make the non-resident otc hunts draws? Every hunting show on YouTube brags about how these guys from all over the country are coming here to hunt deer in the rut otc. I think that is the problem with the greater number of hunters and harvests. I don’t get to go to New Mexico, and correct me if I’m wrong but I’m almost certain I cannot go to Utah as well, and hunt deer in December and January otc. Limit the tags for non-residents and make them draws. If you’re worried about money, then raise the prices on the non-residents. Stop punishing residents to pander to non-resident hunters. I don’t want to sound like I hate other people getting to enjoy hunting in AZ, but I’m also tired of not being able to hunt desirable units in my state because of non-residents.

1 pointThe fleet is on Bluefin tuna right now, yellow fin probs won't appear for a few months. The bluefin fishing is good right now, and legit trophies are within 1.5 day fishing range. I just got back from a 3 day. None of the fish in the first pic are under 45# and several are well over 100#

1 pointgrew up fly fishing in japan. browns and bows some salmon and lots of saltwater, then in the states every trout species except for the silver, gila apaches. I think Grayling trout and seas run cuts were my favorite. smallies on the yakima river, here I did some LM. but carp fly fishing is an absolute blast. wasnt to keen on fly fishing here in AZ after being in Japan and all the other states. I still need to catch a tarpoon on a flyrod and a northern bigger then a hammer handle on a flyrod. caught plenty of decent northerns here just nothing decent on a fly rod yet.
