Thats the thing. You have some sort of reply for everything someone posts that you think are losing their shoot. Its draw time man! We all lose are shoot with anticipation.

Well, I guess I meant my single spike antler...although if I drink too much it could be considered being in velvet too long. No man boobs here..

Elk get bigger with maximum feed, change my mind

Genetics do make big bulls but without food and water they can’t grow big antlers. When a bull that has 380" genetics goes from 360 to 310 to 380, is it genetics that makes him only go 310 in that particular year? If so, i’m still waiting on that year where my genetics make me go from 240lbs to 210lbs without any change in diet.

I think the point is that moisture, feed, genetics, age, and maybe even some luck all play factors...a poor moisture year isn’t helping but I’m still hunting if I draw a tag!

Take the greatest athlete on earth and don’t feed him. Won’t reach full potential.

Got a cool photo of this buck last week. I was 100 yards from him and he had me pinned. Zoom in and you can see he’s pretty unique. He was solo. Hopefully he’s with some does this weekend and is dumber than he was last week. 🙏🏻

I believe we have had maybe 3' of snow maximum this winter in Alpine. The last two winters we had about 5'........... but still about four more weeks remaining to get some more winter precipitation. Easter weekend is usually our last winter storm. I consider 5' of snow only an average winter for Alpine. About 10 years ago we had maybe our best year in my experience logging over 13'.

Great post. But if I don't draw a tag this year after an 11 year wait and 13 bonus points......... you will hear me quacking again about the first two bullets on your posting. I'm for more impact from the bonus points and slightly less luck in the equation. This geezer probably only has one more tag left in the bag .........and it would be nice if I could still shoot straight if/when I get lucky and draw.

Don't worry there will be plenty of threads complaining about the following: the bonus point system needs to change because I did not get a tag we need to implement waiting periods, the G&F gives out too many tags the G&F doesn't give out enough tags its not fair, my brother in law drew 4 tags in a row and I can't get even one I went scouting in my unit and there were too many people. there are too many roads, why did they close my favorite road, I can't find a place with shade, precut fire wood and a bar close by to park my 50' 5th wheel, some loser is lurking around my water hole. there was a blind on my water hole. There is no water in my water hole, there is too much water in my water hole, there are boot tracks around my water hole I saw a trail camera and had to go to therapy I saw a salt lick and had to take 4 days off of work to recuperate. I tore a hole in my $150, merino wool / Japanese silk blend designer camo boxer shorts and they won't let me return them because of the skid marks. I can't find the power lines...where the big bucks and bulls live. I put out a tree stand 7 years ago and some scumbag stole it. I'm a real hunter. You are not. my portal is red, moist and itchy Feel free to add to the list.

We weren't able to get on San Carlos yesterday due to the extreme low level (1.1%), however there are still some reports of catfish and bass and maybe crappie being caught from shore. As the Lake continues to drop in water level I'm sure another die off of what's left will occur. We did get on Talkalai Lake and the results were excellent. Plenty of Bass all around the Lake and the Crappie are actually a little early compared to previous years. 13 pounds were the two Big Bass of the day and a solid 3 lb crappie. DAN

I've been shooting 100 gr. partitions out of my Ruger M77 6mm Remington for 30 years. It has performed very well on varmints, javelina, deer, pronghorn and an elk. I have the same 1:9.5 twist. Took a long time to find a load it liked though.....

Stuck is right.......some of us need to know before making other purchases/obligations........hunting is a priority, but other things lurk in wives minds..........AZGFD should be held accountable for family law attorneys fees if this persists longer! Lol

I'll take a quick stab, and trust me, I'm no expert, just a guy whose trade flirts with programming a bit. Someone could go ahead and poke holes in this 10 minute plan and that is great. That's why I'm not the guy developing the draw software. If I'm anywhere close, this proves my point. Every application is an entry in the database, for which I'd suggest SQL, capable of just about anything and for millions of records if necessary. Each entry is assigned a unique ID for the application and has a column for number of applicants, first choice hunt #, second choice, third, fourth, etc. License numbers and more are likely in the table. This info should be automatically transferred straight from the input form (online application). Each application is awarded another entry, or row in the database for the average number of bonus points. Every row in the database is then assigned a random number, regardless of order in the database. The lowest random number for each application is kept and the rest are thrown away. A simple Frequency method based on unique ID and minimum random number should suffice. If each applicant is an entry to the database, there could be an extra Frequency that groups together applicants on the same application. Same concept. Draw algorithm #1, the Bonus Point Pass. Applications with the highest average BP is sorted from high to low. Tiebreakers for applications choosing the same hunt number with the same number of BPs use the lower random number for assignment. This process runs through from max BPs to min until 20% of each bucket is "drawn." A 5% NR cap is also present for certain species. Draw algorithm #2, the 1-2 Pass. Applications with the lowest random numbers are sorted from low to high. This process runs through the numbers from low to high and checks the columns for hunt numbers, first and second choice in the database. If there are tags available for the given number of hunters on the application, they are "drawn." If not, the application with the same random number go back in the bucket for the 3-5 Pass. A 5% NR cap is also present for certain species. Draw algorithm #3, the 3-5 Pass. Same as 1-2 Pass but there probably aren't any tags left for elk and antelope. There may be a bit more to it than that, but it isn't rocket science. Again, the 10 minute version.

I'm not an AZGFD hater by any means, and I honestly don't care that card hits are late, but calling 17,000 apps and a 10% increase "shattering" for a process that should have automated input to a database and run a relatively simple series of 3 algorithms linked to a few hundred buckets of tags is really silly. Bustedknuckleinc nailed it, and I bet there are several people on this site that could write the code for the draw process in various programming languages in a matter of days.
