Spent the last 2 weeks scouting about 9 days off and on. The heat would force me home every couple days. The rut seemed like it was over. Very few bulls bugleing. I keeped running into another hunter all over the unit. We were looking at a lot of the same country. We shared a lot of info and he told me about a specific bull he was after. Wednesday night we were back in the same Canyon and after dark he stopped to talk. He told me he had found his bull. I let him know with that being said we would not be hunting that canyon and would head for a different area. As a unsolicited thank you he gave me info on another bull. My son found the bull the next morning and again in the evening. A friend spent the night at the glassing point. About 3 am myself and the crew show up and we occupy 3 vantage points. At first light were in shooting position and here comes the bull. As other hunters arrive and park next to us and walk on out the cows spook and away goes the bull. Public land has its frustrations but Has way more pros than cons. Heading back to the truck I’m informed that a friend has spotted another bull. Off we go and the chase is on. Our friend calling turns this bull around at about a half mile. Not sure what he said but at about a quarter mile the bull starts running in. We get set up quickly and the bull showed up at 35 yards. My son shoots the smoke clears the bull walks about 25 yds and falls over. I have to thank everyone that helped glass, pack and occupy real estate. Adam, Jim, Jim Bob, Bobby, Colt. The successful hunts myself and my boys have had over the years is a large part because of you. And a special thanks to Mike. I hope to hear soon you need help packing.

Well after 10 Days I finally got it done. Shot him around 5:30 as he and 4 cows came into water. My brother in law also had the same tag (The unit with the most archery tags) unfortunately had to leave Sunday morning. Not the biggest bull I saw but, After hunting 14 days in 11m in 2018 and eating tag soup this bull will do.

Third time was a charm for me with speed goats. After eating tag soup in Utah then New Mexico over the years, I got lucky and drew an Arizona tag. Put in the time and effort and on day 6 of a 7 day hunt I made a perfect shot on this guy. Super stoked. Special thanks to Markleo21377 who was so gracious to help me out on this hunt. Hopefully the first of many hunts together.

Got the surrendered tag call again. This time my first choice, unit 9. Since it is a couple weeks from now, rather than 2 days I'm Stoked ! Going for sure ! Glad I turned down the last one in 10. Some things happen for a reason ! Thanks to the person who surrendered it for giving the next in line some time.

So about a month ago I posted a picture of a buck that I knew was going to be something special. For one reason or another I had some nay sayers say that it would score 135β€πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Another person had the audacity to say β€œwhy I posted a picture of nice buck and ask the score if I already knew what it would score”??πŸ˜† Really now? Crazy how inept some people really are... Then to top it off they post pictures of deers killed over 35 years old in the kaibabπŸ˜‚ You keep tootin your horn homieπŸ˜† But nontheless I only care about True Desert Southern Arizona Mule deer bucks. It truely is something special when a person kills a DIY 180” Southern Arizona Archery Desert Mule Deer. After countless stalks and days of hunting this monarch I managed to close the distance to 39 yards and shot this bad boy in the jugular! Finished him off with a shot in the boiler room. Buck has 6” bases and all mass measurements are 5 inches+πŸ€™πŸ½ Good luck to all you hunters I hope y’all get some good ones. And to you nay sayers just picture me rollinπŸ€™πŸ½πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜‚πŸ¦ŒπŸ€˜πŸ½#GodIsGreat #MuleDeerPutasos #BigBuckDown #180+Club

It looks like the chick has her phone up taking a selfie of them as they go through. These idiots are the type that get things banned and roads/forests closed. Same mentality as those that look at barricades as "obstacle course features" and not DO NOT ENTER statements.

Congratulations! It still seems surreal when I get lucky enough to take a deer or elk. I say luck, but I'm sure it was hard work on your part. Any hunter would have a bunch of respect for you and your "stick to itness." Okay, it does remind me of a story one of the rangemasters ( LLoyd Van Sickle) at the then named Black Canyon Shooting Range told me back in the 70's. He elk hunted hard and came up empty and was headed back home and stopped at a G&F check station. Most wardens knew Lloyd and started to tease him about going home empty handed. He did a 180 and drove back up to his hunting spot and hunted until he downed an elk. No, I don't remember the particulars about when and where he was hunting but I got a kick out of his story and him not giving up. RIP Lloyd.

Got to meet Jacob and Brian today picking up my flies. It was a pleasure chatting with you both. The quality of the flies Jacob ties is amazing. I compared them to the few Umpqua flies in my box, specifically the copper john, his looks way better! Tighter wraps and no visible knots. πŸ‘

If you want to work for it and not get roasted, drive to the unit, put some boots on and walk around. Lots of turkeys and lots of country in unit 1. South of highway 60, west of NM line, north of highway 180 and east of the rez border is a good place to start
