9 pointsFishing has been pretty good down here in Yuma. Fish I've targeted have been keying in on shad. I much prefer chasing that pattern than flipping/pitching. We have had Wednesday night tournaments at Mittry Lake and a Saturday tournament on the river. All of them have been 3 fish limits. I've fished solo for a couple and fished with a partner on a couple others and we have had some pretty good luck, winning 4 Wednesdays in a row and winning the one Saturday we fished. Here are a few "hero" shots from weigh ins and one stud I caught at Mittry.

9 pointsAnother Year at New Mexico! Arrived the day before the hunt and was glassing away. This year was lot more goats out and about. We found some decent bucks to get a game plan. Then I spotted a really nice size buck but looking at him at 800 yards on my 15s with his head down it looked like it was coming out like a unicorn! Took off to located a plan B buck and one for my hunting buddy. Drove down the road and found Lance and asked if he found a starting point. He was in the middle of watching some bedded down Goats and a decent one to get his Daughter on opening morning. I told him about Unicorn and said I would love to get him tomorrow morning. Later that even we left and got a Text from Lance "Oh man, you have to kill Unicorn! He is cool!!" That morning got to are spot and when the sun came up all those goats we spotted yesterday were not there. After about a 1/2 hour went by my buddy spotted Unicorn! About 1300 yards out. He looked like he was on state land. Pulled up OnX and there is a small strip of private and by luck he was on it. So I took off after him. Got set up on him while he was bedded. He was pretty exposed so I took the shot. Bad idea I was an inch high over his back. He stood up and I aimed a little lower but hit high on his leg and bottom part of his chest brisket bleeding bad! He ran my way and he looked like he was going to tip over but got moving again and stopped about 300 yards looking at me. Not ideal but I put it right on his chest slightly quartered and dropped him. I didn't want him to see me and keep running. IMG-0296.MOV I couldn't believe my luck. That never happens to me. Spot my buck the day before, find him the next morning and drop him. Always Always I never find them the next morning and make it happen. After that we put my buddy on a couple of bucks but can't make it happen. Then early afternoon I glass one up at around 1600 yards and can tell he was nice from there. So we went after him. He dropped him at 375 yards while I radio him in from 860 yards. Good thing there were pinons to hide around or this guy would of busted out of there. He stood up and started stomping hit hoofs but couldn't tell where or what he was at 375.

3 pointsMy son’s Merriams from this spring to complete his Grand Slam and US (all from United States) Royal Slam. He harvested this bird in Unit 1 on the Junior hunt. Last year he harvested his Arizona Gould’s with a crossbow, an Osceola in central Florida, his Eastern in eastern Kansas and his Rio in central Kansas. Quite an achievement for an Eleven year old. I didn’t complete my first Royal until I was forty!!

3 pointsYou would think this an article from California. The victim is the aggressor and guilty without due prosses. WTF is happening to our state? Just wait to see what happens if the left takes the white house. Hope for the best, but best be prepared for the worst. I hope this guy gets his dogs back and the trauma isn't irreversible.

2 pointsI want to give a shout out to Creekhiker (Derek) I had posted about needing help to fix a quad and he gave up his time to come over and help me out. He was super skilled and incredible stand up dude. Its guys like him who give hope that people are still kind and generous in this world. We need to recognize guys like him who go the extra mile not asking for anything but just because they like helping people. Derek is the real deal. appreciate his time, a nice cold beer, and the sound of an atv that purrs .. BTW he is ironworker and welder by trade, he owns his own business. If you are looking for work like that he is an honest dude. Derek...Creekhiker thanks again. In your debt my new friend .

2 pointsPutting hands on that buck was amazing. Great pair of bucks. As you know, I will be having a story of my own soon. One more day to get Taylor a buck.

2 pointsI understand the OPs concern but this is seriously a non-issue if you take just a few precautions. Have an ice chest at the truck, bone out the meat, carry the best cuts back first in relation to the gear you can't leave behind. 2.5 miles and 45 minutes is nothing for a young determined hunter. Go shoot another buck!

2 pointsI’ve killed 4 August deer in Central Arizona with temps between 90-100, 2 deep in on backpack hunts. never lost any meat. Kill your deer, pack it out. You’ll be fine.

2 pointsAgree with this guy. Have a few ice chests in your truck. Ice is cheap, frozen jugs are cheaper. Walk out with what you can. I was able to take a doe in July once. Buddy of mine shot it with G&F permission in a lady’s yard after it was hit by a car. From the time it was shot to the time it was in the fridge was 30-45 min!! Worst meat I ever tried to eat!!!!! Probably adrenaline after being hit by a car but even the burger wasn’t edible. Dogs ate a lot but some cuts they shyed away from. Point is, kill it quick and get it cool.

2 pointsI’ve owned Swarvo HDs and Meoptas and have used the Swarvo non HDs. I liked Meoptas more than non HD Swarvo. Side by side on tripods viewing a windmill that that was a mile or so away, they ( Swarvo HDs and Meopta) were pretty identical in clarity. The Swarvo HDs had a slight bluish tint compared to the Meopta. The Swarvo HDs also had a little more magnification which was weird since both were 15s. Very slight but it was there. Im older (50s) so I had my kids look thru them. They agreed with what I was seeing. I ended up with 3 pairs of Meoptas for myself and the 2 boys. And I’m happy with the choice. As far as resale goes. New Meoptas are $1200-$1250 and used ones sell fast at $900-$950. I’ve never seen them half priced myself. Most guys want a grand for newer used pairs.

1 pointTook my son out for a little guys time for his 13th birthday. We got a backhaul to Glen Canyon dam, and paddled back to Lee’s ferry. The water was pretty tame, but it is super cold. You could get in trouble with the wind if you weren’t careful, especially in a canoe or a boat that could capsize. The views were stunning. We caught a few fish, but I found it difficult to fish out of a canoe in such swift current. Next time I’ll bring waders and fish more from the shore. It was under a heat advisory, and the ground was so hot I couldn’t sleep. One we got on the water it was ok. Good times.

1 pointI used this out of the box Weatherby Mark V Classicmark in 7mm mag on my sheep hunt and several others. The only change was to install a Timney trigger. The gun always shoots 3 Barnes 145 LRX into .6”, not bad for a sporter-weight barrel and wood stock. It cracks me up that there are people out there that believe that you are handicapping yourself by using a traditional finish rifle.
