Crazy but my wife and i were headed up to scout for my 5b Antelope hunt and saw the same bear this morning about 5:15am on the east side of 87 about 4 miles north of Strawberry. Not the best pic but he did have red tags in both ears.

No nothing in the northwest is going to be like Alaska. But I’m not sure about you, you might like Portland...

About 3 miles south of Cottonwood jct North of Strawberry yesterday West side of 87. Area 6A? Had a Swiss K31 and ammo that I had picked up from Steve123, as well as a Ruger American in 6.5 Creedmore that we had taken hoping to checkout, but no bear tag and my last name is not Owens. Soooo we shot him with my phone.

Waters edge in 2015 and 17.Y ou get your own boat and get to keep 2 halibut instead of 1 because your not guided like the 30 people charters. The rock bass fishing is fast and furious, my favorite.

I'm just anticipating this next stimulus package. Alaska halibut is a bucket list trip for me and her. But I told her for what that trip cost we could gear up for the both of us and still do a San Diego tuna trip and a Mexico trip and then have the gear forever. Honestly it's a tough choice.

Look into Bandon OR, I use to enforce the halibut derby’s there for the Coast Guard, it’s not Alaska no other place is. But we caught fish pretty much every derbie. Only select weekends each summer

I know its not quite the same but I have been to Jackson Lake in Wyoming a few times. We hire a guide for a day and then spend a few days out on our own in a rented boat. We go in June or July and have always had great luck catching Browns and Lake trout.

Dug up some old posts, waters edge lodge looks pretty intriguing. $3400 for 5 days 6 nights in a room and includes a boat and gear and meals every day. Hard to go wrong there I would think.

Halibut fishing is miserable. Holding a rod with a 5lb weight at 2:00AM with 30 other people sucks. The little deadliest catch town is cool for about 2 hours. It is so much smaller than it looks on TV and mobs of people are with you the entire time. Mostly a tourist trap. Now salmon fishing on the river can be fun and trout fishing is awesome. If you find cheap flights I think you can have fun for $4K. Sorry I can’t help with booking info. I went last time with a mission group so the 3 fishing trips were booked as a large group.

She really wants halibut, I'm hoping for both halibut and salmon. Alaska is not necessarily out of the question but if i can do the same thing closer and cheaper...

have us over for the weekend, cook on it, then do a raffle to the winner, 50 bucks entry free, pays for 3 burgers, 12 beers, and entry into the drawing.

Flatline maps. Just make sure you have the most recent version. I bought one from a local archery shop a few years ago before my 12AE hunt, and my buddy ordered one direct. My version was older and didn't have all the updated info. I was following my map and ended up on a road that didn't exist anymore. It dropped you down a nasty hill, and once i was down the hill the road was blocked. I made it back up the hill, but it wasn't fun. My buddies version of that map showed it marked impassable. 12AE is an awesome hunt. Congrats on the tag. Scout as much as you can and be ready for anything. It can be warm, it can be cold, it can be snowing, etc. There are nice bucks to be had in 12AE, but don't expect them to be behind every bush. People make it sound like killing a nice buck is easy in 12A. That isn't true. I got lucky and dropped a nice buck opening morning, but we hunted hard for 5 more days to and my buddy ended up settling for a small fork horn, which was the first buck we had an opportunity at since opening day. When the gunshots start, the deer are very good at playing hide and seek.
