3 pointsHowdy everyone, Hope all of you and your families are well! Took my boy, Max and 2 neighbor youths, Stella and Aislen down on the youth deer hunt last November with only 2 1/2 days to hunt. Was going to be a tall order to shoot 3 bucks as my help fell through, so we would be hunting together in one group. 11 year old Stella was up first as Max had just killed a good buck in Kansas and Aislen killed last year on the youth hunt. The first morning found us on my favorite glassing hill looking over approximately 40 deer before we found 2 coues bucks@500 yards. I left 2 kids on the hill and we took off to get closer. We settled in at 200 yards but her inexperience and nerves kept her from feeling confident with the shot. The evening was much of the same with no shot presenting itself that she felt comfortable taking. The following morning we quickly spotted two great bucks that would push the 90" mark. With no cover between us and the deer Stella conceded to let her 16 year old sister take the 650 yard shot. The bullet went just high and the bucks bounded out of sight. That evening we went to some flatter mule deer country and quickly spotted a forky horn. Stella got settled in for the shot at 180 yards and anchored him on the spot with her 6.5. That was followed by alot of dancing and high fiving. That evening was spent dressing him out and celebrating around the fire. The final morning found us back on the glassing hill and just after first light we found another nice coues buck. Max was up and we moved two ridges towards him to get within a couple hundred yards. We got behind the binos and glassed but were unable to pick him back up. It was at this point dad made a rookie mistake and moved to soon to glass a different off shoot of the draw. The buck was bedded in tall grass under a Palo Verde at 150 yards and bounded over the ridge. Max was bummed but we sat down and talked about what I did wrong over snacks. We headed for home already anticipating next year!

2 pointsFly or Drive from Phoenix? A few work buddies and I are chartering a 6 person all day boat end of August. Original plan was to drive out and stay a couple of nights, drive back with coolers of fish. But plane tickets are cheap. Those of you that have flown to fish, how did you get your fish back?

1 pointWhen I first started to call in coyote I had a pair of large owls fly right over my head and land within 20’ right at dust. Of the millions of things I don’t know about hunting, the first thing is owls fly silently. The 2nd thing was to make a plan for #2! In fact I learned both of those things at the same time!

1 pointA few COVID-19 witticisms... Of all the things I learned in grade school, how to avoid cooties was the last one I expected to use! People keep asking “is coronavirus really that serious?” Listen up! Casinos and churches are closed. When heaven and heck agree on the same thing, it’s probably pretty serious! Now that teachers finally have a chance to use the restroom, there’s no toilet paper. Well Groovy Guys and Groovy Gals of the ‘ 70s… our grandkids just knocked our Blizzard of ’ 78 stories out of the ballpark! Shout out to all the parents who never taught their kids respect and now they’re stuck at home with the little s**ts!!! The longer this goes on the harder it will be to return to a society where pants and bras are required. Cops these days will be like…come out with your hands washed! Day 31 of quarantine…ate all the snacks and food…clothes no longer fit… but I’m still wearing gloves and mask for my protection. Never in my whole life would I imagine my hands would consume more alcohol than my mouth! Ask not what staying home on the couch can do for you, but staying home on the couch can do for your country. Police confront nudist sunbathers over not wearing facemasks amid coronavirus outbreak. Ladies…time to start dating the older dudes. They can get you into the grocery store early. I don’t like the fact that my chances of survival seem to be linked to the common sense of others. I can’t believe I can walk into a store to buy weed, but I have to meet my hairdresser in a dark alley with unmarked bills to get a haircut! Have to say that the Class of 2020 outdid themselves with Senior Skip Day this year! With so many sporting events cancelled, they’re having to televise the World Origami Championship…It’s on Paperview. Everyone is posting memes and talking about coming out of this quarantine with a new skill or side hustle. I’m just sitting here wondering how I never noticed there’s a turd in Saturday. Not to brag, but I haven’t been late for anything for the past 31 days! Sitting at the bar in the kitchen at night. Tried to pick up my wife. She gave me a fake phone number. WTH… It’s been a blessing being home with the wife for three weeks now. We’ve caught up on everything I’ve done wrong for fifteen years. Have you noticed that since beauty salons are closed, selfies are down 68%? Breaking News: Wearing a mask inside your home is now highly recommended. Not so much to prevent coronavirus, but to stop eating.

1 pointI have 38 points, I just keep buying bonus points also looking for something more of a hunt just not sure what that is. Not really a tank sitter although I will do that some. Thinking I would like to apply with another who has 30 or more points and do this as a team. I will be done working in another year or so and will then not have any time restrictions also. Guess that means more bonus points for another year.

1 pointThe CNC machinery is part of the overhead. I think most people would be surprised to see how much it costs to make those rifles and setups in a facility like that with the marketing costs they have. I would be real surprised if they don’t have $7-8k into those setups. Honestly that’s part of the game though, it’s a $4k rifle that that hype up to sell for $10k. It’s just a marketing strategy, but marketing is expensive. That’s how we all know about them is they pumped a ton of money into making sure we did, so they could sell rifles for $10k. That’s why I was saying in my first post how I always take companies that have major marketing campaigns with a grain of salt, they are expecting that money to make their regular products worth a premium, or their lesser products worth that of a regular product by investing money into the marketing. Problem is, marketing doesn’t do me any good in the field.

1 pointThanks my situation is probably much different than yours. I was fortunate to get the late West Kaibab deer hunt last November with 13 points. My health is poor and I struggled on the turkey hunt. I am kinda running out of time for hunting. At times I could only walk 40 to 50 yards without stopping to rest. To me the best part of the hunt is scouting but times have changed for me. If I were in your shoes I would have done what you did. I hope things get better since I have 20bp for elk.

1 pointYes I saw his post and actually makes me feel even better that it went to him. I am 36 and I have had some good tags recently from my kaibab mule deer and bison tag to archery 3a3c tag in 2016 for elk and I am ok with waiting for this one. Looks like it was a bucket list hunt for him like it is for most, and he had also just got a kaibab buck so I am glad I helped this hunt happen sooner than later with me declining the tag.

1 pointI got a call from G&F lady last Monday asking if I wanted to burn up my 19pt for unit 31 so I said heck ya. Little did I know is that the forest is closed down on Mt Graham April 8-June 30th do to covid-19. Haha would of been nice to know before I took tag. Good thing my uncle knows a few areas. Found birds night before and called one in first light next morning. 19pt was over in 30 mins. Thanks Billy!!
